Title: California Handicapped DISContinuum Tag Challenge
Post by: CEValkyrie on March 22, 2004, 10:10:39 AM
Announcing the California Handicapped DISContinuum Tag Challenge
"A ripoff from Bruce"

20 Holes at Bevier Park, Waukegan, Sunday, March 28, 2004->After Best Shot. We'll take a break for lunch then get started around 1:30PM
Holes 1-9&A1 & 19-27&A3.

Handicapped Singles Play for Tags and Sidebet

Entry Fee:
A Discontinuum Bag Tag & $2.00 for Ace Pool(Mandatory)
The Rolling Ace Pool: We're going to get the Illinois Open Series Rolling Ace Pool rolling if no ace is hit.

Brett will be donating a disc to the winner. Any sidebets are encouraged.

You can buy a Discontinuum Bag Tag from Brett. $10.00 for bag tag or $15.00 includes club membership with bag tag.

Format: One round, 20 holes, singles play, with the California handicap.
Holes 1-9A1 & 19-27&A3

The California handicap works like this: for every ten points your PDGA rating is below 960 you get one California hole. A California hole is a hole where you get a soft mulligan, i.e., a hole where you play the California format frequently used at best shot doubles for the odd man. So, a 927 rated player would get three Cali holes. An 867 rated player would get nine Cali holes. Take 'em when you want 'em, but when they're used up you're on your own.
I will bring PDGA results from the popular northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin tournaments to help us figure out your rating. If you are entirely unrated, we will assign you a rating.

I will run a $5 side bet. Winner take all unless we get 5 people or more. Then $10 to second with first taking the rest. Playoff for ties for cashing places. Playoff holes will be standard concrete tee pads playing the course backwards starting from tee pad 9. Tee pad 9 to basket 7. Tee pad 8 to basket 6. Tee pad 7 to basket 5. Etc. Sudden death. First one who wins a hole wins. If there are multiple ties, a high score would drop out. You may use "Californias" during sudden death if you have any left.

Myk & Dr.Dye: interested in staying for the day?

Brett, as you know I have just registered with PDGA for membership..

What is my "default" rating? Assuming they have something like that..

If they don't how would someone who is not registered play?

So... what's my rating, like 550? :D

Brett, in response to your e-mail, for an unrated player who has played sanctioned tournaments, see what the ratings would have been for their sanctioned rounds and take an average.  For every seven rounds they've played, drop the lowest round.

From the 4 rated rounds that Todd played, it looks like his rating is around 804
From the 6 rated rounds that Nate played, it looks like his rating is around 915

Thanks Bruce!!

I'm sorry I didn't get out there today. I was hurting too much from yesterday and then today I hurt my back on top of it.

My apologies for missing the whole day! Stayed out a little too late on Saturday and wasn't really "up" for a day of disc golf.

Hey, I went the the John Mayer concert at Carthage AND went drinking til 4 in the AM, slept a whole 3 or 4 hours, and still made it out to leagues.  Granted my partner was probably wishing I hadn't, but hey, I didn't make excuses!  :P

Last year we only had 2 players show up for best shot leagues on Mothers Day. That is why there is no scheduled best shot league on the May 9th. Is anyone interested in a California Tag Challenge on Sunday May 9th in the morning?

The tag challenge is not happening. Busy day for a lot of people.

I will however be meeting Jon at Streamwood early Sunday morning to play a round if the weather is decent. We will also take some pictures of the course and work out a few details for the IO Series event.

That sounds good. I'll plan meeting at your place. How far is Streamwood from you place? I'd like to get there early enough so we are not rushed for you other plans.

Brett cancelled the Cali because of not enough interest. Anyone who wants to join us at Streamwood on Sunday is welcome. There is NO regular league at Bev on Sunday because of Mother's Day.

Todd, Nate and would like to get a group of people together for tags at Adler tomorrow. Around Noon or possibly a bit later..

18 holes, front 9 back 9 of course.

Anyone like to join us? Since the streamwood thing has died off..

The Streamwood thing hasn't really died off. It started with Brett and I and then Damon said he wanted to play also.

Anyway, Damon and anyone else: Brett and I will be at Streamwood around 9:30am. We are going to play 18 holes and then do some measuring and picture taking and then probably play 18 more. The measuring and picture taking is only a two man job, so we're not asking for anyone to help, but if you'd like to play a round or two with us, please come out!
