Title: Non-Sanctioned Events
Post by: SERG on March 30, 2004, 08:59:51 PM
This might be a dumb question: If a tournament is non-sanctioned, are points still awarded and calculated into a players PDGA rating?

I thought about taking the trip to play in the Standing Rocks Open (Stevens Point, WI) but found out the Am division is non-sanctioned. It seems like the tournament would be a good time, but I'm just not sure about making the trip.

Here is site where it describes the layout: Standing Rocks Open (http://platypusdisc.com/wisconsin_disc_golf/wi_sro.htm)

Anyone played this tourney before?

Hey Serg, GO!!!  GO TO STANDING ROCKS!!!
Randy Shukar puts on a GREAT event every year. Folks like Uncle Joe, Duster, the Cozzens, and Waldo all help out. The temp course is AWESOME!!!!!  I am so sad I can't go this year (Wildwood's Grand Opening is May 1st). EXTREME elevation changes, gorgeous land and wildlife, good friends, great play. Barry Schultz always plays as well. Don't hesitate on paying that entry fee - just do it and GO!!!

Serg, to answer your question - No. Nonsanctioned events don't have their results reported to the PDGA, so no ratings are generated from them and no points are awarded.

We might use results from nonsanctioned events to generate a rating for club members and/or regulars that aren't PDGA members, but as of now there are no plans for that in the works.

Like Jim said, go play standing rocks. The course might kick your ass, but then again I don't know how they have it set up for the am weekend versus the sanctioned weekend. If its laid out similarly to how it was when I played in 2002, there are a couple holes reminiscent of hole 18 @ elver from the pro tee... 600' & all downhill.
