My hard drive failed last night on my home computer, so I don't have any internet or e-mail access from home until I fix it. Just thought I'd post here since most of the people likely to e-mail me also read this board. Hopefully I'll get it going tonight and luckily I did a back up of that drive on Sunday. I'll post here when I'm back up and running.
Brett, once I get my computer chugging again I might need you to fwd back that e-mail that I sent to Debbi Duris. I'll let you know if I'm able to recover it. :(
I'm still down. What I thought was a simple hard drive failure is really a more monumental computer problem. I'm at work right now backing up the data off both of my hard drives--just in case something seriously bad happens.
I had lunch with my old boss yesterday and he came over to my place to help me with the computer. He thought maybe I had a virus. I am thinking the mother board is fried somewhere.
If you're a computer-head, you be the judge!
Symptoms:
1) hard drive doesn't boot
2) reinstall windows and hard drive still won't boot
3) buy new hard drive, initialize it, install windows, and it won't boot
I just ran a virus check on one of the drives and it came back clean. Running disk fix on the drive to see if I get any errors.
My original 10GB HDD is toast. It finally won't spin anymore, but I was able to back it all up last week. During the course of swapping drives in and out of my computer I apparently swapped the ribbon cable I was using with my cdrom drive and my cdwriter with the ribbon cable that I was using for hard drives. So, when I was done installing XP on my 40gb hdd I was getting an UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME error. I had thought that it was a hardware issue and I spent half the weekend trying to solve a problem that could have been fixed by swapping the cables back. Missed leagues and everything working on this. DOH!!!
I am mostly back up. I still have to configure Becky's e-mail and I have a lot of clean up to do. Everything restored fine, but now I have duplicates of a bunch of stuff.
I got my e-mail back earlier this week and now my part of the XP is up and running. I missed my message boards! It's good to see you all again. I should be able to get back to league sometime soon when I'm not working Saturdays.
