Anyone planning on attending this event?
I have a flyer at home with key information about the event.
I am 99.9% sure i'm going.
I plan to go also Brett. I'm assuming advanced plays on Sunday?
QuoteI plan to go also Brett. I'm assuming advanced plays on Sunday?
It's one day, so all divisions are on Sunday. I am still thinking about it, Brett.

Is he sanctioning all divisions as well?

I think Naomi is usually a girls name Bruce, and I think all the divisions she is offering are sanctioned. I don't have the flyer with me to know what divisions are being offered.

considering how tight that course is, be sure to bring a chair, there's sure to be *lots* of backups and waiting around that day... ;)
the extra holes should help
not sure if im attending due to family conflicts
that weekend is sure busy
Need a little help here...
I live in St. Louis, but will be visiting some relatives near Portage, IN the weekend of this tourney. I was hoping to play in this tourney, but have a bit of a dilemma. If I were to drive to this tourney I would have to drive back to Portage to pick up my girlfriend before heading back to St. Louis. If I could get a ride to the tourney though, I could just have my girlfriend pick me up there and head home which I think would save me at least a couple of hours. Not real sure how far Portage is from the park, so I don't know how much time it would save me. If anyone knows of somebody living near Portage who might be willing to give me a ride, I would really appreciate it. I will supply gas money or whatever else it takes.
Thanks,
Andy Majesky
Andy,
Thanks for visiting!! It looks like Portage is about 30 miles from Olympia Fields. DISContinuum is located North of Chicago & the majority of our members live north of Chicago. You may want to try posting on PDGA's Discussion board about the tournament or on the message board @ www.jolietdisc.com You might have better luck there.
BTW,
How is that course in Colinsville?
Hey Brett-
Thanks for the response. I posted on this message board because Discontinuum was about the only website for the Illinois/Indiana area that had a discussion board. I will try the PDGA message board and I tried www.jolietdisc.com, but it doesn't seem to be a valid URL. I looked on mapquest at the distance from Portage to Sargeant Means and I saw that it was only 30 miles, but since I'm not real familiar with the area I didn't know if that 30 miles would take 30 minutes or 90 minutes.
I have only made it over to the Collinsville course once since it opened. I played the long tees once and the short tees once. It is a very nice course with a good mix of long and short holes, some elevation changes and water to deal with on a few holes. Overall, a decent course and worth checking out if you happen to be in the area. I'm heading up to Kansas City this weekend and will be playing Rosedale and Water Works. Both courses are better than anything St. Louis has to offer. Then again I have played Cedar Lake and Rogers Lakewood in Indiana and they are right up there with some of the best courses that I have played.
Thanks again,
Andy
Andy,
Sorry, www.jolietdiscgolf.com
The morning trip would probably only take 30-40 minutes. On a Sunday night, I-80 becomes a parking lot  .
I have relatives that live in Colinsville. I'll be down there sometime, just not sure when.
Look me up when you get to Olympia Fields.
I am scheduled to work that day.. but if I can get someone to cover for me I will definetly be attending
Yay!
Co-worker asked me to cover her hours today, told her only if she'll work on Sunday for me.
I dodged a bullet there..
*TOOOOT TOOOOOT* OLY OPENER HERE I COME! :D
Looks like the temp will be in the 55 to 60 degree range on Sunday with clouds. It's pretty early to go off weather.com though. I'll post again on Friday after I look at the forecast if i'm going or not.

Looks like I'll be going if you want to share a ride.

That sounds good. Dan & Diron are thinking about going. The 4 of us can carpool is we all go.

Looking at weather.com this early is kind of like speculating on the stock market. Right now it's "scattered showers" for Sunday...
I'm getting up early Sunday, checking it out & then deciding. *light* rain I could deal with if it's anywhere near 60.
I sent an e-mail to the TD saying that if there was no heavy rain in the forecast that Brett, Jon, Diron, Dan, & Damon would be playing. I'm waiting for a response to see if they will hold us a spot. I want to make sure we get in. There was 110 players on 24 holes last year. They have added 3 extra holes to the format this year. I don't think there will be a problem but who knows.
If for some reason we or (one of us) don't get in and we carpool together, we should probably just go play Mokena so we don't have to wait around all day.

Try nbc5 (http://www.nbc5.com)
They have much better weather for Sunday than weather.com does. ;)
from nbc5 weather--Sunday: Partly cloudy and seasonable. Highs near 60.

Milan is a fun course and there's a good group of people out there - the doubles tournament that day is BYO partner.
Not lazy Mirth, just not really informed :)
Thanks for the link anyhow

I grew up in Rock Island/Moline/Milan area. No disc golf back then though. Barely any frisbees. Possibly before the invention of the wheel.
But if I lived in Fort Wayne I'd move back there myself :P

chops means mouth or lips. So "bust your chops" litterally means to punch you in the mouth. It means pretty much the same thing in usage as what Myk said.
Here is the response I got from the TD.
I asked if we could have spot saved and if there was any damage to the course from the storms the other day.
There should be openings for all divisions, The weather was not too bad here - The ground is soft in areas but doesn't appear detrimental, Hope to see you there
Mike T
they should know more after thursday league
wouldnt you think
still, wet here is not that BIG of an issue
its a short course
every one needs to be able to play in the rain
I'm still up in the air about going. Looks like 50% chance of showers. I do have a good rain suit so i'd be ok. Maybe waiting until tomorrow nights forecast would be better.
Dan & Diron, If we do go I thought meeting at the WalGreens in Libertyville on 137 & 21 would be a good spot. We could then take 21 to pick up Jon on the way. Make sure you chedck the message board Saturday night of PM me for my phone #.
That sounds like a fine meeting place. It looks like it will rain in the morning. I'll post tomorrow evening and let u know if I'm coming.
I'm going to print off directions to the course in case you womens stay home in the rain  :P
I agree it's not worth driving a long distance to play in the rain, but I've been looking forward to this tourney for sometime..
Brett could you hit me up with your celly?

still looks like it's supposed to stop raining by 9, so I'm leaning towards it.
Can't carpool w/ anyone from here though, given my location.
eat at shoops for lunch
Allright, I'm going. Assuming we're still carpooling, what time do u want to meet at walgreens?
OK, Looks like everyone is in.
Dan & Diron, I'll meet :D you between 6:00AM - 6:15AM at WalGreens. We'll then head to pick up Jon in Wheeling.
I'll be you too Brett.. I'll be you too :P
I'll see ya at 6ish then :)
Dan you straight w/ a ride?
i'll be there
looks warm out there
going to be wet
good luck
results ????
Oly was a good time. The weather held out & there was no rain but it was windy all day.
8 DISContinuum Members played. Dan, Nate, Mitch, Diron, Jon, Todd, Damon, & myself played.
Dan cashed in advanced (Dan shot -6 on the day)
Todd & Damon cashed in intermediate
Jon cashed in recreational
I shot -2 on the day. Think I tied for 9th or ended up 10th. Not sure.
I had the honor and pleasure of being in both Todd & Damons group for the 1st, and 2nd rounds.
Kudos to them both, as Todd is playing the most solid disc golf I have seen him play since we both started. And Damon has one of the best mid-range games I have ever seen, the man doesn't even putt for three, he's just picking up his disc and dumping it in the basket.
Well done guys
I was proud to end up at +11 for the day after starting off with +11 for the first round. :D
QuoteI was proud to end up at +11 for the day after starting off with +11 for the first round. :D
I salute Jon's investment strategy yesterday, coming out $7 ahead (at least in 'merchandise value') on a $13 entry fee. I spent $18 and got $15 back, and although I was +5 for the day I still wouldn't have beaten the Rec winner as I recall.
Had I played adv master I wouldn't have DFL'd but still would've been out $28 and probably would have shot worse.
I'm not sure that I would call it an investment. I was very pleased that I was able to shake off that first round and play solidly for the second round. In the two tournaments that I have played rec, I have had many opportunities to teach the rules and courtesy of the game to guys who are playing their first tournaments. I assured the guys that I played the first round with that I was a better TD than I am a player. ;) --at least in my own mind!
The hardest thing I've run across to teach is how to keep score. The proper way is to ask each person by name what they got and then repeat that score out loud as you write it down. That way people know that you heard them correctly. Also the score keeper needs to say what they got out loud. Saying "everybody 3 that?" is not a good way as it opens the door for point shavers. If a point shaver thinks that you think that they got a three when they actually got a 4, its easy for them to say "yes". The reason this is hard to teach is because when pointing out the correct way to keep score, the current score keeper immediately because defensive and thinks that you think they are point shaving.
Whatever. I will continue on my quest to teach the rules, and I will continue my journey of supporting the ratings system by playing in the division indicated by my rating.

Jon: My comments weren't at all meant to be snide, it might look that way in print; I seriously contemplated playing Rec myself, but I'm a lousy teacher. ;)
For that matter, most of the guys in my 1st group of Ints didn't know the right way to keep score either...
Damon, my "whatever" was in reference to people who think I'm "coming down on them" when I try to teach the rules. I didn't think you were slamming me.
There is no way to teach or enforce rules without coming across as a prick. It is worse than having an opinion on a message board.
I just tell them, "I'd rather we keep score in the manner described in the rules. That way everyone knows what everyone else is shooting and there won't be any misunderstandings or errors on the card."
Usually in Advanced they know what the rule is. Did you carry your rule book with you during the round Jon?

I always carry my rule book at tournaments. But, I never had to get it out because no one ever questioned me that it was the rule.

I played with the ratings template (http://www.pdga.com/competition/ratings/CalcWCPtemp4.xls) for the first time on this; the number crunching is kind of fun. If I did it correctly, here are some sample ratings/scores....
Dan M. round 1 - 939 (69); round 2 - 923 (69) - avg 932
Brett rd 1 - 912 (72) rd 2 - 914 (70) - avg 914
Jon rd 1 814 (83) - rd 2 895 (72) - avg 855
Damon rd 1 877 (76) - rd 2 886 (73) - avg 882
Diron, Todd, Nate didn't have ratings, although there is a chart out there to figure out what their round ratings would be.
Pretty much everyone in the field shot better in the 2nd round, which would explain why Dan's 1st round 69 is 'better' than his 2nd round.
It'll be interesting to see what the final 'official' round ratings are. As it looks now, my overall rating made the tremendous leap of 2 points after all of this. :P
its good to see the results turned in so quick
great job to all whom may be responsible for that
