Hey Shawn, did Sunday fill up last year? I won't know if I can play until literally that morning so I can't pre-reg.
I'd be going on about 4 hrs sleep after a gig, which worked pretty well for me last year at the Callahan Memorial, so... :P
both days filled last year, Damon.. Thing is we only had 1/3 pre-reg and most registered the day of the event.

I made a small mistake...the discs are $24.65/each not $24.95...in my budget, $0.30 adds up! :D

after checking out the UWP website again today, i noticed that DISContinuum is listed as a sponsor.
is this accurate?
Paul Kuffel paid for it, not sure of the details.... I think it is just a jester of good faith with the sharing of the servers and all... So maybe at the Blast put our logo somewhere.. ;)

I think that could be arranged. =)
I think we got some light Leopards that could be offered up as CTP discs... ;)

I could trade you some useful discs straight up for them if they are 150 class Champion Leopards.
Shawn, last year the TD for this event deducted a PDGA fee, a tour fee, a basket fee and maybe a course use fee from every amateur entry fee, making payouts verrrry thin. Is that the plan for this year too? After deducting all those fees will they then do an 80% C-tier payout? What if you finish in the middle of the pack -- do you then owe them more money?
Please, everyone play this event and then play Jon and Brett's Illinois Open #1, The Streamwood Starter. Compare the payouts. You'll be amazed.
Ah Bruce...
All our Leopards that aren't Sun King stock are DX. The ones that aren't DX I doubt you'd want to trade for...

Bruce, I'm not trying to be offensive when I ask this question. It's just a simple question. When you ran your first tourney, did you make some mistakes? I'm just curious.
This was the first tourney that the Parkside Club ran. I was really impressed with the turnout. Yes, payouts were a little thin, but that was because of some first time mistakes. Everyone makes them, and while I'm sure we all appreciate how wonderfully run your tourneys are run, there is no need to directly "pick" on another tourney because they made some mistakes.
Thank you for pointing out that they under paid last year and making sure the game of disc golf is run fairly. I appreciate that effort.
Bruce,
From some e-mail communication, the payouts will be handled differently this year at the Prairie Open. The payouts should be better than last year.
I do agree that on comparison the IO Series will beat pretty much any tournament payouts considering no added cash.

Bruce, your an Ass..
I am not running this thing..
You told me when I left to go to Charlotte that if I continued my wise cracks that i would get my ass kicked...your on track for an ass whopping yourself.
"Compare the payouts", What is your problem...are you adding cash to the am division? Both you and Brett complained about payouts but never saw the cost of running the way they did...lots of ammedities that were not sponsered.
Last year was Parksides 1st PDGA event, I believe they fixed the problems.
If not, I'm sure you will point it out...
QuoteBruce, your an Ace...
At first there's the reaction "He's my brother and nobody can say that about him!" which is quickly followed by the "He's my brother and has been the biggest ace in my life!"
Anyway, I think now is the time for us to run our tournaments and let them speak for themselves.

I don't like to make comments about the "bickering" that takes place on the board...however I do enjoy reading them....but I do need to reply to Bruce's comment:
I'm an employee of the Univeristy of Wisconsin-Parkside. Unfortunately, a state-owned institution runs things a little differently. There are "particulars" that need to be taken care of when an event is held on the university's property, hence some of the money is taken out to pay for this. Due to other statutes, things such as "ace pools" and "raffles" cannot take place - they're considered gambling.
If I do recall, even though payouts weren't the best, the Prairie Open was one of the highest attended AM events last year. I don't know the exact number but I know it was in the top 15. Something was done right.
Either way, I plan on playing in the IOS and Parkside. I'll support disc golf however I can. I'm not playing for a player's package or payout; I play for the friendly competition, the love of the outdoors and to help promote the game.
Now, if I sound like a $hithead, I'm sorry....just lost about $30 on PartyPoker.

Serge,
I thought that was a reasonable response. I know I like to know where my money is going when I play a tournament. One of the reasons I have started to help run tournaments is because hardly any TDs will tell players straight up where the money goes. But if the money isn't going to the division where it is being collected, I think the tournament flyer should say up front where it is going. If there are per user use fees, just list them as $2 per player is going to park or university or whatever. If they are charging a flat fee, then somewhere on the flyer it should say $200 cash will be taken out of the entry fees up front to cover the facility fee. That is only my opinion, but I think it is reasonable for the customer to know what they are getting for their money before they buy.
Jon,
I agree. I'm not on the tournament committee but I know people who are. I'll mention to them to make sure, in the future, that information is given about where $$ is going.

QuoteBruce, your an Ass...
We can't all be tall and good looking. :D
I care about fairness for amateur players. Because I run tournaments that have series fees and course use fees, and because I buy plastic from the manufacturers, I understand the accounting and math involved.
It is not hard to cover a PDGA fee and a series fee out of the built in profit on every amateur if the TD is buying plastic at the 200 piece rate. It does get harder if there are multiple series fees and the venue owner is taking a rake. It gets impossible if the TD is taking a loss on the pro divisions.
It may be that the event last year was not a rip-off event, but as Serg intimates, it was held in a rip-off venue. It may also be that the TD did not know how to do the math in advance of the event and did not know that his fixed costs per player were larger than his average profit per player. However, in advance of that event we heard a lot about cash sponsorship, which goes a long way in covering fixed costs.
I think my questions are valid even if my tone pushes your buttons.
Depending on what the fee is, the venue might be worth it. Prairie View is a nice venue. Flip City is nice also and we are paying a per user fee for it. Flip City is worth the fee in my opinion.
FYI
Shawn,
Just got the word that camping is a go for the tournament. The only conditions
are that Ed must camp both nights and be the camp director & no campers under
18 years of age. I asked him about families with children and he said if it
comes up he would try to get that okayed as well.

Just curious if you guys would be interested in having someone from TWC tape this event and put it on local access? I don't know for sure if I can pull all the right strings to get this accomplished, but if the Parkside club is interested, I'll persue it further.

"TWC" The Weather Channel or Time Warner Cable? :P
That would be pretty cool. Maybe, anything, they follow the lead groups, especially on Saturday.

What's the actual start time on Sunday for registration and tee-off? I don't see it on the site anywhere.
I'm upset to have missed pre-registration.
I really don't want to miss this tournament- so I have to get there early and register.. I was unable to find it on the site as well.

thanks Pat!
I think I might be able to make it after all, as it turns out I should get back in town from a gig around 1 am; if the weather's good and I can get to Parkside before it's full I'll take my chances, otherwise I guess I'll just drive onto Dretzka ;)
I'm inclined to play Int instead of Adv Masters though; it's a lot cheaper and I'm really only playing for rating pts anyhow.
Anyone interested in putting together some practice rounds this week at Parkside? I'm pretty much available any day this week except Monday, don't know when I"ll be back in town. I usually get out of work around 4:30 and am back to the course by 5:00.
If anyone is interested in meeting up, or plan on going out there in the evening, please post or email me.
So far I'm planning on playing after work every day if I can manage it. I get done about 6 and can usually make it to the course by 6:30 or so depending on wait times at McDonald's/Burger King.
Myk:
I'll plan on being out there shortly after 6. If you want, give me a call when you're on your way. Do you still have my number? PM if you don't.
Diron:
I'll email the TD and have him put you down, if you like. Hopefully that will reserve your spot. I'll let you know what he says.
(Shawn: Do you think this would work?)
Yeah, I still got your number, and I'll give you a buzz. Today I'm lucky enough to get out of work at 1, so if someone wants to go then, I'd be willing to make my way out.
Question for any TDs out there, or just for someone who may know from experience. I signed up for a PDGA membership some weeks ago. Still haven't received a packet or anything, but I have my number from looking for myself on the PDGA site (#24886). Am I going to have to pay the extra fee Saturday since I don't have my membership info stuff yet?
Any info is appreciated, thanks!
Steve
Nah you're set bro.
Just give them your number when you sign up, that package of stuff will arrive at a later date.
No. They'll be able to look you up.
i renewed late like that with the PDGA one year and i had your problem. i think my number was in their list though when i got to the tourney, although i had no card.
Does anyone know if their have been alot of preregs for Saturday at Parkside?
There's 50 players signed up for Saturday. I'm not sure what divisions. If you follow one of the links in an earlier message you can see most of the pre-regs are in Advanced AM. The site hasn't been updated, though.
If there aren't any spots in Adv, I guess I'll shoot Open :D
I might play open....Barry will be there, so the chance to play with him could be there..maybe...if i play well...or know the TD to hook a brother up and all. ;)
the site is not updated but I heard a few over 50 are signed up, should be perfect conditions for a tournament Saturday so it will fill to either 90 or 95 players with a ghost hole.
Keith Warren will be there too, that kid is really cool, good golfer too
I was wondering if there was a cut off for the tournament at parkside? I don't have a PDGA# so how much is gonna cost me? I was also curious about how one might get to the park from the train in Great Lakes because I have no mode of transportation, I would love to donate my money to the pro purse so if anybody could inlighten me on how I might get there that would be great..
Thanks,
Disc-Hurler
Pro Open is $59 plus $5 non-PDGA member fee.
As for transportation, can't really help you...taxi?
BUMMER!
Stayed out late last night and was unable too wake up and play today, how did it go?
Hopefully I can make it out there tomorrow..
Anyone going up there passing through Libertyville? I am in desperate need of a ride, I'll cover gas!?! :D
Ladies & Gentlemen (and I use that term loosely)...
presenting yer 2004 Prairie Open Advanced Master Champion....
PAT WOOD!!!!
:D  :D B) :o ;) :) 8) 8)
...who shot a 54 from the longs, I believe, and a 47 from the shorts to win by 2 shots. Congrats Pat, it's not too late for Pro Worlds ;)
I managed to recover from a mediocre 1st round to shoot the 2nd best round of the old farts in the 2nd (49), which was still one shot short of placing. (6 out of 10). I think Diron placed pretty high in Int, don't recall where Myk, Steve, Kyle, Adrian Jr. or Danny finished.
Ahhh good times.
That guy who shot -10 the first round really stunk it up the second round, I mean bigtime. I thought for sure I had caught him but guess I was still a stroke short..
Couldn't ask for a more perfect day for disc golf, with the exception of less mosquitos.
Shawn was dressed up all purdy :D
diron is a sandbagger. i hope u didn't accept any prizes d-train :P
Hahaha, hardly Dan.
I got my ass whopped by some newbie who shot a -10 the first round, and a -3 the second round with 2 bogeys and 3 deuces..
Oh well, it's only am2 :D
I took all I could carry and took off... *toooot* ;)
I finished 10th. Huge improvement over last year, so despite some stupid shots, I have nothing to complain about :)
Steve had a spectacular 2nd round (-9 w/2 bogies) and tied for 3rd, then won a 3 hole playoff for the trophy.
I think Adrian won juniors.
Quote
I think Adrian won juniors.
Kyle, was that you in my group the first round?
Adrian and Danny dueked it out in jrs. but Adrian came out on top.
I was putting with them after the tourney and Adrian was knocking down some 40' like it was nothing. Hope he plays well at Worlds
No, I was on Rob's card (Parkside club Pres) with 2 other guys both named Matt. I think I was on the card one hole ahead of you second round.
I tied for 17th place, which was the last spot for cash. Last year I just missed the cash by 2 or 3 spots, so I did better this year. I could have done better if I wouldn't have been such a dork on the last 2 holes. After the first round I was at -3 and in 11th place. The second round I was -2 until the last two holes. I shot 5's on both holes because I was flat out tired. Funny thing is I played a round with Shawn, Jojo, Trisha, and Tall Paul afterwards for tags, and managed to salavge a -2, so I felt mildly redeemed. Tags went all over the place, except Pat, who managed to hold on to #6. Guess it's off to Madison if anyone wants that tag.
QuoteSteve had a spectacular 2nd round (-9 w/2 bogies) and tied for 3rd, then won a 3 hole playoff for the trophy.
One of my best rounds ever that day, and during a tournament no less. Felt really good to get out and play well in that type of situation. I think I shot 108 last year, and to be able to shoot 95 this year (with 4 bogies over-all, ugh) was a big improvement for me. One stroke behind the leaders (stupid bogies) and a huge improvement over last year...that's even nicer than the plaque! But the plaque is very cool! :)
Really looking forward to the IL Open Series!
QuoteI got my ass whopped by some newbie who shot a -10 the first round, and a -3 the second round with 2 bogeys and 3 deuces..
His name was Chris Locke. He's from the Appleton area and plays with some of the big guns from up there pretty often. I was on his card that first round. Considering he threw his putter on 15 out of 18 holes -- including over-throwing hole 8 with his aviar -- his -10 is a little more impressive. Especially since he started playing last summer. :o
He was pretty ticked off that he let the guys on his card get into his head on the second round, which is why he shot so poorly.
He was really ticked when I sank a 35 foot deuce putt to beat him out of 3rd place. B)
I had a good time first round, shooting with Banzaiiiii (right myk)
I don't think any hole was over 260 so no reason to not throw your putter. Hope I'm in his group again sometime
QuoteI had a good time first round, shooting with Banzaiiiii (right myk)

Tell you what, you can keep Banzaiii in your group. He's a nice guy, just didn't seem to know what was going on all the time.
he probably just forgot about 804.05
Yeah, that and 1 or 2 more. I'm not bitter about it or anything.
Wait, you're saying you are bitter about being passed? I wouldn't, that's DQ material.

I had a good day with some luck. Anything that went off the fairway in the woods took a good bounce back out onto the fairway. All in all, I shot two of the best rounds I have ever played at Parkside back to back.
Myk, or anyone else for that matter, let me know when you want to come to Madison for a shot at no. 6.
It was good to see all of you that were there yesterday agian.
Pat, you want to play Friday afternoon... Heistand or Elver, I don't beleive that i have played either of the 2 for over a year or so.
The Praire Open was another well run, well attended event. I got the jitters playing with Barry and missed a ton of 10 footers and shorter. My drives were solid...just could not putt.. I'm sure Kyle and Serg can explain how well I played.. it was kind of funny actually.
Congrats to Pat, Adrian, Danny, and Steve for getting plaques and playing solid golf.
Shawn,
I could meet you early afternoon about 1. Heistand would be best as it is closer to my house. I have to be to work at 5 p.m. so I'd have to be done playing by 3. I have to get home, clean up, and make the 40 minute drive to work. The Hwy Dept is tearing up 51 north by I94 so traffic is down to one lane for about a 1/2 mile going either way. Traffic really backs up.
Let me know what you think.
And I forgot to mention that the Open was very well run. Eveyone seemed to be having a good time. The $10 in funny money in the player package was a good idea too. Paid for lunch and then some.
QuoteI tied for 17th place, which was the last spot for cash.
So I placed just ahead of you, Myk. I must have been 15th? I was fairly disappointed with my whole day that I didn't care to think about where I finished. I shot EVEN the first round and -2 the second round...that was with 8 bogies on the day...my home course! After seeing the -10 after the first round I pretty much just had fun the second round.
It was fun to see all the Discontinuum members out there. Thanks for coming.
Anyone planning on playing in Baraboo this coming weekend? Isn't Peoria this weekend, too? Good Luck to all who play.
Congrats to all the great finishes by DISContinuum Members.
Full results are now available on the SE Wisc (http://www.sewisconsindiscgolf.org) website. A large photo gallery with a lot of cool shots should also be up within a few days.
Kyle,
Send me a PM/Email with your email address so I can send you the photos I have. Don't have many, but I think I have a few that turned out pretty well.
Hey Serg and Kyle, If either of u have pics of me.. can u send them to me....u will make my mom happy. ;)
Sent four of them. I didn't change the size of any of them, so if you want to print them out and send them, the quality will stay the same. Tell your mom we're proud of you and she has nothing to worry about :D
The photo galleries are up. With Serg's photos the gallery tops 130 images.
