Title: Discraft Discs
Post by: shawn on April 28, 2004, 06:44:55 PM
I see Discraft is coming out with some new stuff this year.  I just saw a Flash and was wondering others views of this disc.  Kind of seems like an Orc.  High speed slightly understable with lots of glide...like an Orc.

Discraft comes out with a lot of stuff, I guess Innova does too though.

Keeping track if all the discs gets to be a big pain in the butt though..

So someone tell me with the new Flash on the market whats the differnece between it and the Crush?
Not that I plan to use either of them though, I'm quite happy with my DX Beasts.

There is a huge element in the disc buying market that is looking for the magic disc, so Innova and Discraft have to keep producing something new.  Manufacturers and vendors often find that their decisions are dictated by the vast majority of idiots in the marketplace.  I think the new wider rim discs are a legitimate improvement over the last generation of drivers but I cannot keep up with every mold either.

If my next reload is a Discraft reload, I'll get some Flashes for Flip City and IOS #1.  I doubt that I'll move a lot of plastic at The Kensington, since we are not forcing amateurs to buy stuff, but I'm so clueless about what is going to happen there.  I think anxiety is clouding my Jedi sense.

Just quoting myself the way I feel that some people must auto-edit when they read my posts.  :D

Someone sent me some Forum-mail relating to this topic.  Trying to open the forum mail crashed my browser and seems to have deleted the mail too.  Try resending it to rollerdoos@aol.com or brakelb@co.oakland.mi.us, or both if it was urgent.

I won a Z Buzz at a tourny this past weekend. Can anyone make a comparison of this disc to another Discraft or Innova product? I haven't had a chance to throw it yet, but it feels similar to a Roc.

No clue about the Buzz. I know alot of people throw them as straight midrange

Alex said the Flash is a Stingray in disguise

If you've thrown a Wasp I believe the Buzz is a modified version of that mold.

I think if you treat it like a roc it acts like the same.

It is Discrafts refinement of the Wasp. Where a Wasp is a little bit overstable, the Buzz is just stable. It is much like a Roc, although maybe not so much to those people who have adopted the Rocs in their bag as their children.  ;)

I think Discraft finally nailed the stable approach disc with the Buzz. After the Comet, Stratus, MRV/MRX, Hawk, and Wasp, they finally found it. I still have a use for the overstable Wasp, but the Buzz has become my go to mid-range disc.

Beadless Wasp.

If you flip them over and look at the inside of the rim I've seen some that still say "Wasp" after the patent info :)

I have one, it's one of those that actually says "WASP" on the inside edge by the patent info.  Basically an understable Wasp.  I don't have a "big arm" by any stretch of the imagination, and I can turn it from hyzer release.  Throw it hyzer and it will go straight with a little turn to it (won't come back much).   Thrown flat, it will turn and turn...

I think that the Buzzz compares more closely to the Storm than a Roc.  [It is hard to compare anything to the Roc since there are a half dozen different Rocs out there this year.]  It is a little slower than the Storm and a little less high speed flippy.  Because it is beadless, it feels different from any other mid-range.  I think the Buzzz is uniquely different from any other mid-range because of its lack of a bead.

I heard from a Discraft insider that they might produce the Buzzz in a soft plastic and sell it as a low profile putter for windy putting conditions.  Any 0 stable beadless disc makes a great putter because you get a cleaner release, but disc golfers are conditiond to only throw fat discs for putters.

By the way, the correct spelling of the disc is with three zzzs.

I have been using the BuZZZ as my windy day putter. I also use it as my "One-Disc-Johnson" at BG when I just want to walk around like a chucker. I have never really done much throwing of Rocs so I can't really compare. But I think of the BuzzZ as a putter that flies. It has a lot of performance characteristics of a putter, but it can also fly. Anyone who says that it just turns over, hasn't figured out how to throw different shots. With so many discs out there people can buy the disc that lets them turn over or hyzer or throw straight. You can do all of those things with any disc, you just have to learn how. The Buzzz is not the magic disc, but since it has such a stable flight it is a very useful tool.

Hey Diron, I don't think that the Buzzz is a replacement for someone who likes the Roc (or some varient of the species), but I'll take you on in a game of skill. Your Roc vs. my Buzzz. Think of the game and we can play before league sometime.

That was just the dry humor that I inherited from Bruce. I realized what he was saying but was denying (through feigning confusion) that anyone would be a fanboy of a particular frisbee.

With me vs. Diron I was thinking this would be a Bobby Riggs vs. Billy Jean King type of loss for me with me playing the part of Bobby Riggs of course. At this point Diron and most of you have no idea what I'm talking about, but Billy Jean King was the young one with the talent in that match...not that I think Diron is a woman of questionable sexual preference...and not that there's anything wrong with that.

Perhaps if a few people are interested in the Roc vs. Buzzz showdown, I might give away one of the CryZtal Z Challengers then.
