Title: Would you play in this type of benefit format ?
Post by: airspuds on November 02, 2013, 07:11:39 AM
30  bucks  one round of 18    3 per hole
no divisions

for a benefit you spend 1000  in merch  and expect to have  50 players .
benefit makes 500  easy peasy

what does the player get for  the  30 ?

one disc
one mini

one raffle ticket worth 5  for basket
one raffle ticket worth 2  for bag

one raffle ticket in each surprise mystery bag of stuff
9 bags  so  worth  buck a piece

-----

realistic approach or not  ?

I was thinking of trying to run something in Effingham il   in dec
prior to their   1  pm  league  prior to the xmas decorations  going in

I would be fine with the payout because I don't win so I really don't care about payouts as long as the even has value. Essentially you are saying that other than a player's pack everybody gets a random chance to win a basket and a bag.  My issue is paying $30 and only playing one round.  I would prefer two rounds.  Also, with a winter event I don't know how reliable it will be for you to get 50 players. You have to know the locals and know how far people are willing to travel when the weather could be horrible.  I am assuming this would be non sanctioned as you are not paying any fees or insurance. In general you have to have a reason for a non-sanctioned event such as a fund raiser like an ice bowl or a story line like the old Widdershins events which were Halloween events, a glow event, or trying to get new players out. This time of year you are not getting new players but hard core players who are willing to come out in iffy weather.

Pretty expensive for a single round, and if there are no divisions, you'll not really attract a lower level player.  The $1000 is supposed to cover both player pack and payout?  Depending on where you order from you would be up to 150 total discs available, and you would have limited choices for people.  Odds are you would have 20-30 people, and you're better off only picking up $500 worth of stuff.  Run the event for $20 (requires 25 players to break even on plastic), but then don't forget about your other expenditures - registration cards, scorecards, trophies, stuff like that.  Don't expect large turnouts at non sanctioned events unless there's lots of motivation to be there.
