Again, the field is limited to just 72 players. The first spot was filled last weekend (7 weeks before the tournament!) so preregistration is highly recommended.
Thanks,
Mike
Looks to be a fun event Mike.. I'll see you at the Praire Open.
Thanks Shawn, I preregistered for the Prairie Open yesterday.
Amateur disc golfers,
I'll also be at the Elver Open in Madison this Saturday (5/29). Please track me down if you have any questions about the tournament or would like a registration form.
Thanks,
Mike
Mike,
I'll be at Elver myself. Can I pay for the event with you there or do you prefer we go through Uncle Joe's site?
Sergio
Sergio,
I'd be happy to collect your registration fee at the Elver Open.
See you Saturday!
Mike
Mike,
Sorry I wasn't able to catch up with you after the tourney...I had to leave before everything was over. Will you be at the Prairie Open this weekend? If so, I'll make sure to meet up with you there. Thanks.
Hey Sergio,
No problem. I don't blame you for wanting to hit the road. It was a long day.
Yes, I'll be at the Prairie Open, but unfortunately I play on Saturday and you play on Sunday. Your best bet is to mail the registration form/check to me or register online at www.unclejoes.net. Registration forms are available at www.widiscsports.com. Click on "Event Schedule" and then "Wham Bam Thank You Am." Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Mike
All indications are that the limited field of just 72 players is going to be filled before the tournament on July 10th. I highly recommend preregistering for the event to reserve your spot. Again, registration forms are available at www.widiscsports.com and online registration is available at www.unclejoes.net. Please contact me at whambamthankyouam@yahoo.com with any questions.
Thanks,
Mike Batka
Mike, I just shot the new configeration for Sussex today.. I like it alot. What's a good score out there?
That's a good question! I second that!
Mike, I registered for the Wham Bam online about 10 days or so ago, and I am looking forward to it! I played Sussex on two different occasions in May, did pretty well my first time out and even better the second. :)
Can I ask, what would be considered a good score for an Advanced Am?
And what would be considered a good score for an Intermediate Am?
And what would be a good score for someone with an arm like a sickly 10 year old girl? (that would be me!)
Thanks!
Steve
Shawn,
I agree that the layout is great. Its length can challenge good players, but the fairways are very forgiving (even to a novice). I think hole #2 plays a bit tougher now. Moving hole #3 back was a great move. The third and final change to hole #17 is the only one I don't care for because the original pin position made it one of the best holes on the course. However, all of the changes were made because of safety concerns so I support them.
Someone with a decent arm could be looking at deuce putts on 17 of 18 holes (at over 550 feet, hole #3 is the exception) so I think the hot score each round will be 8-12 strokes below par.
Mike
Steve,
One of the great things about Village Park is that most of the Intermediate and Advanced Players will be able to reach about half of the holes on the course. Players with accurate (not necessarily long) drives and good putting games will do well. Most Intermediate players won't be able to reach the longer holes with their drives which will reduce their opportunities for birdies. My guess is that the hot score each round in the Intermediate dvision will be 4-6 strokes under par.
Mike
The "Wham Bam Thank You Am" is less than two weeks away and over one-third of the field is full. All 72 spots may be filled before July 10th so preregistering is the only way to ensure yourself a spot. Registration forms are available at www.widiscsports.com. Click on "Event Schedule" and then "Wham Bam Thank You Am." Players can also register online at www.unclejoes.net.
Mike
Player registration (if there are any spots available) and check-in will take place from 8:00-9:00 a.m. All players must check in before the players meeting at 9:00. The meeting will be brief. Players should be on the course and playing by 9:30.
Chain Reaction is generously sponsoring a random draw doubles event at Village Park in Sussex at 6:00 on Friday, July 9th. The cost is $5 per person. It is open to anyone. There will be 100% payout in funny money to be spent there on merchandise from Chain Reaction. This promises to be a fun event and great warm-up for anyone playing in the "Wham Bam Thank You Am."
In conjunction with the awards ceremony there will be an incredible raffle. It is open to the public. You don't need to be present to win. Over $1,000 in prizes will be given away. Here are just a few of them: Discraft ChainStar portable basket, Ching SkillShot, Innova Chamion Edition USDGC Rocs, QuadShocks, and much more. Tickets are $2 for 1, $10 for 6, and $20 for 14. Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the event.
Mike
Anyone planning on attending Random Draw Doubles on Friday night must register and pay at the Chain Reaction van which will be located in the parking lot at Sussex Bowl which is across the street from the course. The Village of Sussex does not permit the exchange of money unless the course has been reserved. Please plan to register and pay from approximately 5:00-5:45. Purchases of merchandise from Chain Reaction with cash and funny money must also take place in the parking lot of Sussex Bowl.
I just registered for the event yesterday, I think
Is anyone else planning on going? If anyone's interested in carpooling that would be awesome. I'd be willing to drive and/or pay for gas. Post here or PM me if interested. Steve?
Approximately two-thirds of the players field has preregistered. Please do not mail registration forms/payments as they are unlikely to arrive prior to Saturday. Registration is still available online at www.unclejoes.net. Please contact me at whambamthankyouam@yahoo.com with any questions.
Mike
Anyone here play? How was it?
It was easily among the most fun I've had a tournament.
Each round there were 18 CTP discs, each card had their own CTP (hole of their choice), plus in both rounds hole 11 was a CTP for everyone (winner each round got a set of Quadshocks).
During the second round Steve's card started on hole 11 and one of the guys aced it, so not only did he get the CTP, he also got a $25 gift certificate for ACE hardware across the street from the course (they sell discs). (Couldn't do an ACE pool).
Player's pack consisted of an Elite X Wasp, our choice of custom stamped Elite Z discs (They had Flash, Buzzz, Crush and I think Challengers), a champion mini and a couple of stickers.
The raffle had a huge amount of prizes. I walked away with a glide hat, shirt, and a gateway disc. They also gave away a ton of premium plastic, a set of 4 discs autographed by the last 4 world champions, lots of premium plastic, 2 2004 CE Rocs, good water bottles, another set of quadshocks, 2 DiscWing shirts (the new British disc company), a skillshot, 2 videos and a book donated by Scott Stokely, a Discraft ChainStar Portable Basket and some other stuff.
Sergio not only won the INT division shooting -6, he also won the Chainstar Basket!
Steve was in a 5 way tie for 10th in INT, I was somewhere near the bottom and Shawn tied for 7th in ADV.
Awesome trophy sculptures by Tom Holsten for all of the 1st place winners.
The only downside came during lunch. Serg and I went to the Sussex Bowl for the great deals they gave the disc golfers. When we came out Serg realized he hadn't locked his car and his disc bag was gone from the back seat (but my box of backup discs was still there untouched). We got back to the course and his bag was found up in the parking lot by hole 1. His cell phone and 2 putters were gone. Really bizarre that those were the only things taken. We were all pretty confused by that, but karma sure came back and helped Serg out in the end.

My guess is that it was not stolen by a "real" disc golfer. It was stolen by someone who didn't apply any value to discs. They probably just snatched the bag hoping there was a wallet with cash in it.
Glad to hear you guys had a good time!
VV O VV !!!!!!!!!!!! <---- = WoW !!!!!!!!!!
A Chainstar basket!!!!!! Sweeeeet
Mike Batka and company really put together an awesome tournament. I'm not just saying this because I finally picked up my first tournament win...but it seemed like everyone out there had a good time on a beautiful day. I would have been happy with the player's pack alone.
On the issue with my bag, here is a crazy and bizarre story:
I'm pretty anal about locking my car. I must have just been that hungry and/or excited that I shot a -6. Anyhow, Kyle and I were both pretty stumped when we noticed nothing else was taken out of the car. When we returned to the park, and found out the bag was there with the majority of the contents still there, we were even more stumped. Inventory stolen:
- 1 Grid Stamped Aviar
- 1 Parkside Stamped Aviar
- Cell Phone
- Can of OFF bug spray
- Pack of gum
- Tube of Sportscreme
- Marlboro Lights
and finally....the Summer League schedule for Discontinuum
Now the story gets even better: My mom got a call this morning from a girl (Amy)who said her uncle found this phone outside his church in Lannon, WI (just north of Sussex). He went to visit her after church and gave her the phone. My parent's number was in the phone book of the phone so the girl figured she'd call "Mom & Dad." Turns out, I went to college with Amy and her husband. Their good friends were visiting them from Kenosha, also a girl I went to college with and her husband, who works with my brother. Amy gave it to them and the guy gave it to my brother. I'll get it back tomorrow. Now I can return the phone I went and bought today for $120. I couldn't a phone for any cheaper than that.
Definitely a crazy weekend. This is one tournament I don't think forget.
Wow, that is whacky!!!!!
Now all you need to do is find the disc golfer that attends church in Lannon WI :D .
I just had to take a picture and "show off" the trophy from the Wham Bam Thank You Am tourny. Tom Holsten did an awesome job. If you don't know Tom and are a PDGA member, Tom was talked about in the last issue of DG World News. He's created the last few designs for the Rumbletown tournament in Milwaukee.
It's a two-piece trophy. The guy isn't supported on the wood.
Congradulations on the win Serg.
Sounds like it was a great tournament. I'll have to put this one on my list for next year.

Very nice! So, what is the guy supported by?
He's not supported by anything. He just sits on the wood. You can make him throw a forehand or a backhand, whatever you're in the mood for.
