The PDGA has updated the waitlist. I got in :D and will be receiving a packet by June 1st. I also saw Shawn F. got in. Anyone else going?

can you say master
is the club going to sponser anything ????
QuoteAnyone else going?
yep.
I'll be there. Becky and I are TDs.--Jr. Divisions.
I am extremely confused as to why I am still on the waitlist. Doesn't it say that a minimum of 200 points makes you a category 6? I have 630 amateur points. I am wondering if it has something to do with the fact that I played one Pro tournament last year. At any rate, if I somehow get in when they review the list on June 15 then I do plan on going. I'd be interested in making the trip with anybody who wants to. Presently they have me 5th from the top of the current waiting list. that really sucks.

I owe a few people lunch...I'm not going, decided to go to Telluride Bluegrass festival instead. I am working hard to not play as much as I have been and keep my weekends open to Rock climbing, music festivals, dating, mountain biking and fishing.. I do play everyday during the week, but will only play a few events this year that are local. Good luck to everyone going.
Dan,
I had 645 points so I must've been close to not getting in. My sources are not for sure either & they said e-mail the pdga -> office@pdga.com
With Shawn not going you've bumped up to #4.

If you have a question send nice e-mail to office@pdga.com and they will send a nice answer.
I have not followed the qualifying rules. I made everyone in my immediate family play enough to qualify on points, in case they changed the rules for women and children, which resulted in two of them winning touring player pins! I've won one touring player pin and its my favorite "trophy." Kira did not think much of hers. She was not even aware that she had won her division for points in the PDGA last year. Kelsey was more appreciative.

The points system does need some tweaking, exactly how, I'm not sure.
As I'd hoped, I may have caught a break by turning 50 this year (hack, wheeze, groan), so I qualify in GM, not sure I would have in M. But, I know I'm stronger/equal to at least one other GM who's in, maybe a couple of masters, so I don't feel guilty. Age does have its benefits, although there's not many...
What *is* bizarre, though, is that the points I earned as a straight int at Oly last month put me at the top of the IL *GM* list for 2004, which is a joke.
In the long run, I just wanted to get in to play this year - although a week in f** Des Moines isn't all that attractive. Don't think I'll get out to PA or wherever it is next year. Just hoping I can pace myself/train myself so my shoulder doesn't crap out again before August
Dan, I'd do some checking, but hope for the best. You certainly deserve to get in, and I bet you will. ;)
QuoteDon't think I'll get out to PA or wherever it is next year. Just hoping I can pace myself/train myself so my shoulder doesn't crap out again before August
I think it is Arizona next year for the amateurs, Pennsylvania for pros.
Pacing yourself is key at the Worlds in the old guy divisions. Especially off the course!
So, Jon, do you get to play Am Masters next year? Start looking for tournaments where we can partner up!
woo hoo! I took Bruce's advise and emailed the PDGA office with my problem and they said they screwed up and only looked at my 2003 Pro points (80) and not my Am Points (630). My invite will be sent out June 1st with everyone else's. I can't wait to go! I knew something was wacky when i saw other advanced players with like 220 points got accepted and i didn't. thank god i emailed them :D
Congradulaions and good luck, Dan.

You could take the proactive approach, (as much as I hate that nonword that has long since been banned by the Unicorn Club) and start looking for the right job right now. Then when Worlds rolls around you could say to your boss, "Are you absolutely positive I cannot have that week off?" "Well, it was nice working for you but I have been accepted to compete in the World Championships of the sport I play and that is a little more important than this job to me, right now."
I was looking at the schedule for the Worlds tonight and realized that we (advanced) don't play all of the courses. We mostly play Big Creek, Gateway Park, and Des Moines Comm. College. Does anybody know what these courses are like? Are they tight, wooded or more open. I'm a little disappointed we don't get to play at Iowa State, as I heard that was a decent course.
Dan,
I got my info e-mailed to me. I don't have excell to download the document to find out what group i'm in. Could you let me know?
Adrian Jr., I saw this post at pdga.com under the jr. worlds thread. I don't know if you're looking for a doubles partner.

The July 26 registration deadline is now just 2 weeks away. Looks like a pretty healthy turnout for the juniors.
My 17 year old son, Alex does not currently have a partner for the boys <19 divisional doubles. I was told that partners must be chosen and entry paid prior to the July 6 deadline.
Are there others out there looking for a doubles partner?
Thanks for the info Jon. I'm still working on getting registered and planning the trip.
I got ur email brett. it just lists the players who are registered (both of us and Damon are listed) and what they are registered for. It doesn't say what pool we are in yet.

you're still better off than the 'advanced grandmaster' division... apparently the 'master' pool has gotten too big and the *really* old guys (like me) have been bumped down to the courses the junior girls are playing... we get the two courses that everyone plays and that's it. Two of the other 3 don't have any information up on the website, at least as of last Saturday (I just got back in town).
And if I were a junior girl I'd be complaining too....

The upside is that you have two GREAT dedicated TDs for the whole week! Other pools will have a different TD for each course, but Becky and I have volunteered for the Jr. girl - boys <10 - 50-70 year old men pool. We are only taking one day off--maybe wednesday?--so, that's a plus, right? RIGHT?!? ;)
I understand why you are " ", Damon. But try to not take it out on the Worlds organizers. With having so many people they had to shift an adult division over to the Jrs. I have been told that the courses that the Jrs. are playing are just as good as the rest of the Worlds courses, only generally a bit shorter. It might actually be an advantage for the players who can't throw over 300 feet. There is one course that EVERY Worlds player plays, but I don't have the schedule open in front of me to tell you which course that is. I think it will still be a good time Damon.

oh, I'm not really taking it out on the organizers, I realize they're only doing what they have to do; if I were really upset about it I'd post something on the PDGA board and I'm not doing that... ;) I'm sure the courses are fine, but it does mean that we're playing one fewer 'distinct' course, I believe, so that's where the disappointment lies.
And I can always get a junior girl to help me add my score. :P
I've adjusted my perspective this past week anyhow. I just returned last night from a recording session in upstate New York. It was a joint project with a trumpeter I've known for years (who's on a couple of my earlier CDs). The music was incredible, but the recording engineer, David Baker, passed away during the week before it was finished. He was gravely ill when he arrived from NYC but insisted on doing the session. We had no idea he was in such terrible health (and a lawsuit against his so-called 'doctor' is already in the works) until he got there. We managed to finish the session with the mixing board set as he left it and the eventual CD will be dedicated to his memory and spirit.
David was quite seriously the best in his field, had done thousands of sessions in not only jazz (some of you might know Medeski Martin & Wood - he's done most of their stuff and was going to work with them again next week) but rock (old Moody Blues things) and classical since the mid-60s. I first had the pleasure of working with him about 14 years ago and he was a truly beautiful person as well as a brilliant technician and sound artist. He was only 58 and he will truly be missed around the world.
So, flinging frisbees around Des Moines for a week is not such a big deal to me at the moment.
I played the junior courses when I was there. You will have more fun on the junior courses unless you define fun by how badly you get your ass kicked by a course. Most of the junior courses are like 18 holes of the Bevier original nine, without the pond, and a little longer. These are park-like courses that have lots of mature trees but not a lot of nasty schule. They have traditional par 3 kinds of holes. They won't shake out the chaff as relentlessly and ruthlessly as some of the tougher courses.
You can think about that and decide if maybe that works for you! ;)
I could not find the collared shirt discussion, so I'll post an update here. This is unofficial but really good insider information. If you buy or sell stock based on this information, Martha's lawyer won't be able to get you off.
Ams and pros should plan on wearing their collared shirts at Worlds. Tucked and non-tucked is not supposed to become an issue, but if your TD or marshall asks you to tuck, you will, because that way it won't become an issue.
Looks like most of the Advanced Illinois Players are in Pool H to start.

Rodney has final odds posted at PDGA.com. I'm a lock to make the semis and a 24-1 long shot to make the Finals. I have no appreciable chance to win it.
So I guess I can stay home and always remember the day I made the lock-odds to make the semi-finals.

El Presidente is 9-1 in advanced; I'd take those odds.
He--, Dan is 33-1 and I'd take that too...
;)
(edit: what I meant was Dan is an even better bet at those odds...unless Brett snores too much, I suppose... :P )
that dude has way too much time on his hands. I'd love to throw down a bet on Brett and myself to make the semis with those ridiculous odds though. I wonder how he came up with those numbers. It obviously wasn't straight ratings based. Somebody should tell Pat Blake that he has only a small chance to make the finals and virtually no chance of beating Sean Butler.
I think those odds might actually have a small amount of validity for the Open division though, because the top Open players have played a large number of rounds in head-to-head competion.
has anybody noticed how good Dan Michler is? I really think it would be a miracle if I can beat him at Worlds. He is my pick to make the Finals, he is so much better than me. He sure is a heck of a nice guy though, and still single ladies !!!!
In the ever changing TD pool, Becky and I are now TDs for Pool O which is all the Jr. Boys except for the <10 boys. So we won't be the TDs for our nieces and the grumpy old men. :P

slightly biased predictions for the Worlds:
Open: Barry, Climo, Brinster, Cam Todd in the final 4. Longshots but not a real surprise: Keith Warren, Chris Heeren - Both of them will finish ahead of Russell. Barry will repeat, but not by much.
Women: Juliana and Des will be reallllly close. (2 Iowans, after all). Flip a coin.
Am Masters: Bruce willl make the semis, maybe the final 4.
Advanced: Brett and Dan will make the semis. They'll have to pay my share of the room if they don't :P
Junior boys < 16: Adrian Jr. will make the finals, or be really close.
Junior Girls < 16: Kelsey is a lock, probably will beat one of the < 19s
Am Grandmasters: I'm ranked 28th out of 44; if I can finish 28th I'll be "satisfied", if I can make the final 16 (semis) I'll be ecstatic. I believe if I can keep my act together (forgetting about Peoria, among other things) I can make the top 20.
Amateur Mixed Doubles: Bruce and Diana will remain married after the tournament.
TDs of the week: Jon & Becky ;)
I will be enjoying this.
Place yer bets...
i'll predict damon finishes top 10 :D he was playing some good golf after leagues at bevier. i think he's got the stamina to outlast those other grandmasters B)
The only other prediction I have is that I'll finish ahead of Brett
All packed up and ready to hit the road in the morning. I'm going to try to take some pictures and get them loaded onto the website every night. We are supposed to have wireless access at the hotel.
We got to Des Moines at 2:30 this afternoon. The free wireless at the Sheraton is nice, but a bit finicky. It keeps going in and out. They probably don't have enough WAPs because the signal strength is always low.
Haven't seen anyone from Illinois yet, but then I haven't really looked yet either. I'll get some pictures up as soon as I take some.
I started the gallery for 2004 Worlds pictures. There's only one photo in there so far and it's just the welcome PDGA Worlds sign on the Sheraton sign. But I'll get more up there as the week progresses.
brett and i have practiced 4 courses. good lord, Big Creek and Walnut Ridge are frickin hard as hell. I heard Ewing park is also a bastard. hopefully i can keep it under +10 at these courses. Tee off at 7:30 AM tomorrow baby! good thing Diron isn't here, 7:30 is too early for that little baby :o
Don't have much time to post too much info. Using PDGA computers in the host hotel. Awesome player pack & we've played some ball buster courses.
Nate won the putting contest today & hit an Ace in practice on a hard !@# hole.
These two World Class players, Brett and Dan, allowed me to join them for a round on Sunday. We Played Big Creek. The only way to play this course is to throw whatever off the tee pad to keep it in the fairway. Lots of 400+ holes with tight fairways and nothing playable once you are off the fairway. I shot it +18 and I thought I was playing fairly well. These types of courses are why I'm a TD for Worlds! ;)
First tee off for singles is in less than two hours. I'm caddying for Bruce today since this is one of Becky's and my days off. We also get Wednesday off. On Wednesday I'm going to try to get a bunch of cool pics.

After yesterday's rounds here are some highlights:
In Open:
Barry's currently sitting 5 strokes ahead of the competition at -4. He shot a 1080 rated first round! :o
Cam Todd is at +1, Climo +2.
Chris Heeren's +5.
Advanced:
Brett is currently sitting tied for 5th in his field at +1.
Dan's 11th at +3
Steve's 31st at +9
Adv Masters:
Bruce is 19th at +21 (leader is +10)
Adv Grandmasters:
Damon is 21st at +7 (leader is -4)
Adv Women:
Diana is tied for 25th at +27 (leader is +15)
Junior < 16 Boys:
Adrian Jr is in a 4 way tie for 21st at +10 (leader is -2)
Junior < 16 Girls:
Kelsey is destroying the competition, currently sitting in 1st at +21. 2nd place is 18 strokes off the pace.
Junior < 13 Girls:
Kiralyn is in 3rd (last) place at +55 (leader is +40)
Lots of DG left folks, go get 'em!
Just got back from a ballbuster round at Big Creek. Go figure, I shoot a +4 & move up a few spots. Looks like i'll be making the top (72) pool for the great shuffle. Dan shot +8 & moved up a spot as well.
All results are after 3 rounds.
Barry is holding onto first in Open with a -13, however the pack has gained some ground on him today. 2nd place is 4 strokes back from him (Markus Kallstrom & Cam Todd). Schweberger and Climo are tied for 4th at -8. Chris Heeren is sitting tied for 13th place 10 strokes back from Barry. Kurt R, of Tourist fame, is tied for 21st with a -1.
Brett is now sitting in a 7 way tie for 9th place in the top Advanced pool (pool G). The current leader is -6 at the moment, a full 8 strokes ahead of 2nd place.
Dan's in a 3 way tie for 52nd place with a +13, also in the top Advanced pool.
The Nastiness is embroiled in a 15 way tie for 42nd place in Advanced pool H with a +20. However, he's only 5 strokes off the leader.
Bruce is now tied for 33rd place in the top Adv Masters pool at +21, 15 back from the lead.
Damon's 22nd in Adv Grandmasters at +28, the leader is +6.
Diana's holding onto 31st place in Adv Women all by herself with a +62, while the leader in her pool is +23.
Adrian Jr has moved up 4 places to 17th place. He's currently sitting 20 strokes back from the leader. The top two kids in the < 16 Boys are rated 933 & 953! :o
Kelsey has continued her dominance over the < 16 Girls division, thoroughly beating the competition into submission. Kelsey may be sitting +33 but 2nd and 3rd places are at +57 and +86, respectively.
Kiralyn is holding her own in < 13 Girls with +81. The leader, rated 744 to Kiralyn's 577, is +59.
And there you have it!
Johannes who is in first place for MJ1, is a great player. It would be nice to see someone from Sweden come in first in that division.
Added some photos to the gallery. (http://discontinuum.org/gallery/2004_Worlds)

There was one jr. player who wasn't there. He left early. He didn't hear the correction in the directions to Maytag. He missed the first 7 holes of that round. Ouch.

Quotewow.
How's the weather been? Pretty cool, almost cold here.
Saturday and Sunday were great. Monday I caddied for Bruce and I think it was fine. It is getting so hard to remember individual days because we are so busy. Tuesday was cold and misty in the morning and cool and cloudy in the afternoon and then became sunny in the evening. Today was very cool and mostly cloudy all day. The weatherman said cool and sunny for today, which would have been preferred.
After 5 rounds, three left until the Semis!
Barry's back on top after briefly sharing first with Cam Todd.
1 - Barry -24
2 - Cam Todd -20
3 - Ken Climo -16
3 - Aaron Wield -16
5 - Brian Schweberger -13
Chris Heeren's sitting tied for 12th with a -9
Kurt Raffensperger is tied for 43rd with a +3
Terry 'T-Dawg' Miller is currently in 3rd place in Pool B with a +9, 3 strokes back from the lead.
Advanced player action today:
Brett is tied for 28th place (7 way) at +23. The leader in pool G is -3
Dan is in a 5 way tie for 56th place at +30.
Steve Waters is in a 6 way tie for 24th place in pool F at +26.
Nasty Nate is leading a 3 way tie for 30th with a +27.
Pool F's leader is currently sitting +16
Advanced Masters:
Bruce is tied for 21st place with a +34, 17 strokes back from the leader who is +17.
Advanced Grandmasters:
Damon's tied for 25th with a +39, 29 back from the leader.
Advanced Women:
Diana is in 33rd place, 62 strokes back from first with a +110
Junior Boys < 16:
Adrian Jr is tied for 20th, 30 strokes back from the lead with a +30.
Junior Girls < 16:
Kelsey continues to dominate her division, with a comfortable 33 stroke lead on 2nd place.
Juinor Girls < 13:
Kiralyn currently is 33 strokes back from the leader, at +110.
One notable piece of trivia about Kiralyn and Kelsey's 2nd round, the only one to be rated so far, is that Kiralyn played at a level 40 points above her current rating. Kelsey's 2nd round was at a level 30 points above her current rating. The girls are getting good! :D
Since I'm on the subject of rated rounds for the Juniors, Adrian Jr has had two rounds where he played 20 or more points above his rating. The other two rounds were below his rating. The two above rounds were 873 and 883! If this continues, we're gonna have to start thinking about bumping him at league... ;)
Good luck to everyone in your final three or four rounds (or more) of the main tournament!

Sorry for the short thread drift:
I'll have to agree with Mirth...Adrian is currently the Am Division leader at Parkside leagues. There's only two weeks left and he's 16 points ahead of second place.
I was half joking about bumping Adrian, and it really isn't thread drift Serg...
I'd say *maybe* bump him full time once his rating breaks 880 or 900. Until then, I think he's just a really good am pool player.
Same here...just giving him a hard time. Although, at Parkside leagues, if you're the Am leader and can't be caught, you finish leagues playing in the upper division.
I can see his rating passing mine very soon. Keep up the good work, Adrian!

Missed the semi-finals by 3 shots. I was firmly above the cut line, but an 830 rated round in my next to last round got me out of it. whoops! congrats to brett on making the cut though. i'll have to get revenge on him at fairfield in 2 weeks.
Congrats Brett, yer so studly...

Bruce is in 11th going into the semis. He is 4 strokes back from making the final four. He said he plans to leave nothing behind in trying to make up that gap. Today he had his SECOND hot round of Worlds. He carded a 58 at Walnut Ridge which not only was the hot round for advanced masters, it was the hot round by TWO strokes!
I had a funny conversation with Johannes Hogberg today. Ask me about it sometime in person. In cold words on a page it makes him seem like a jerk, but he really has a good sense of humor.
I'm really rooting for team Sweden. Having a couple of Swedes win makes it seem more like WORLD Championships.

Open: Barry won by a lot, although I heard Climo mention to someone that it was essentially less than a shot per round - otherwise he was completely gracious about finishing 2nd and genuinely happy for Schultz, although he's clearly still hungry for it. Keith Warren tied for 5th, Cam Todd kinda crashed in the semis at Pickard and it was cool to see Schweberger get 3rd.
Women: Missed that one, although I guess Des made a hellacious charge in the last couple of rounds and only lost by 3 or 4.
Am Masters: Bruce tore it up, wasn't too far out from the final 4.
Advanced: Brett made it to the semis easily, Dan almost did.
Jr boys: Adrian, don't be discouraged, there were some ridiculously strong players in that division and you're well on your way.
Jr girls: Kelsey would've been 2nd in <19. Nice going!!
Am GM: Going in I was ranked 26th/28th out of 42 (2 didn't show); I finished 24th. Had 3 900+ rounds and 5 850ish rounds. Not one was close to my 871 rating, but my average was 873. My 1st round was solid but not spectacular; if I could've continued at that pace I would've stayed near the top 10. Most of rd 2 went OK but towards the end the wind picked up, I ran out of gas and on the very last hole I got a bad tournament roll on a layup putt...it was the same hole I'd blown a birdie putt on the round before, so it was an ominous sign...that 2nd round dropped me from the 3rd to the 6th card, and I remained on #6 or 7 for every round the rest of the week.
Ewing tore me up in the 3rd round, as I expected, but I had an emotional meltdown at Grandview (4th rd) after missing a fairly easy deuce putt after a great drive and subsequently shot myself completely out of it on the next hole. (I was missing routine putts all week but fortunately making some long 'saves' which could have otherwise made things a lot worse.) G'view was the only course I didn't get to practice all the way through due to scheduling and fatigue issues; I'd walked it on Sunday, and relatively speaking it might have been the easiest course so my lousy round there was particularly frustrating.
My best rated round was (I felt) a fairly flat 5th round at Ankeny; it was only a 58 but was one of the top 5 or 6 scores and it put me back into the semi hunt - before I butchered the 6th round <_< .
I was able to finish with a strong last round at WaterWorks though, my only one at par. So I wound up 2nd among IL players (4, maybe 5 of them), a mere 32 shots behind Al Babbe. :P
The courses the old guys played were plenty tough enough, and it was a nice change to be able to outdrive people once in awhile :P (During the last round, I was shooting with a pushing-60 guy from NC; after one of my better drives, he drawled, "How old are you really?" That was funny.)
So I said I'd be "satisfied", and I guess I am. The weird thing is, I didn't have what I'd consider a 'great round', but the solid rounds would have been enough to make the semis easily if I'd had 6 or 7 of them rather than only 3. It was quite an experience and I'm still a little bit numb. And sore, although not as much as yesterday. ;) Other than one annoying individual (think of a 50ish version of Spaz) they were all great guys to play with.
Speaking of ratings; they really are getting this system down, apparently. There's a guy from IA with the exact same rating as mine (871). We played 2 of 3 rounds in Peoria, 4 of 8 at Worlds, after 7 rounds I was one shot ahead of him (although I crushed him mercilessly in the last round. B) )
Out of 42 GMs, 22 shot better than their ratings, 19 shot worse. On avg the old guys shot 2 pts better than their rating. Only 2 guys with lower ratings shot better than I did, 6 with better ratings shot worse.
I've been too tired today to do much of anything besides unpack and screw around with numbers, so here are some more: (semis rounds for Bruce and Brett not included):
(sorry if this doesn't line up)
Player Rating Worlds Performance (unofficial)
Bruce 933 924
Brett 929 936
Dan 921 922
Nate 905 915
Damon 871 873
Adrian 847 838
So far only one of Kelsey's rounds was rated, for reasons I don't understand; she played the same courses at the same time as the GMs (except for playing the short tees at Ewing), but apparently rounds are rated separately according to division, which frankly doesn't make sense to me. She had a 780 round at Maytag vs. her 758 rating - But that round was rated at 802 for a GM with the same score  . In fact, based on GM scores/ratings (and not counting Ewing) her performance was about 802 for the entire week. :o
I'm finally settled in. My system is still out of whack & I probably shouldn't have attended leagues today.
Here is a summary of the week.
On Friday night I was able to play Sinnissippi Park in Sterling with Dan for bag tags. What a great course.
Saturday we headed to Des Moines, checked in & got player pack, then headed out to practice.
Our players packs included a duffel bag, towel, t-shirt, champion starfire, soft challenger, frisbee disc, clip board, tape measurer, 3 minis, innova sticker, worlds sticker, & a bunch of other stuff I can't remember.
We threw practice rounds at Des Moines Area Community College & Carroll Marty.
On Sunday we practiced at Big Creek with Jon. We then headed to Walnut Ridge and played for bag tags. Sunday night was the player meeting. It was interesting but I almost blew my top when this juggler put me to sleep and performed about 45 minutes.
We had a 7:30AM tee off Monday morning @ DMACC. It was very wet on the ground and the wind was blowing hard. I felt like I was playing bad. I ended up shooting a 55 to start Worlds. I ended up finding myself in 2nd place after the first round. I was very surprised at the scores. Our 2nd round was at Carroll Marty @ 3:30PM. I shot a 56 and was the worst on the lead card. I lost some ground but not much.
We got to sleep in on Tuesday. We headed out for our 2nd Round at Big Creek for an 11:30 tee off. What a tough course. I felt very happy shooting a 58 and held my ground. That night the Great Shuffle took place. Dan & I were happy we made the top pool and would be playing at the same time the rest of the week. That night we went out to Ewing to practice.
Wednesday started the downward spiral. We had another 7:30AM tee off at DMACC. I was driving very well but could not stick any putts. The wind was blowing like crazy. I managed to go into the water on a birdie hole. I had a chance for a fairly easy circle 3 & blew it. I managed to 3 putt it and took a circle 5. I shot a 59. A player in my group holed out the wrong disc and ended up taking a 2 stroke penalty. He ended up missing the semi final cut by 2 strokes. In the afternoon we headed to Walnut Ridge. This was by far the worst I played all week. I could not hit a fairway to save my life. I did birdie quite a few holes and hit some big putts. I could have easily shot +15. After that round Dan & I headed to Grandview to walk the course. We were both tired & sore & decided not to throw the course since it was the easiest we would be playing all week.
Thursday we had another 7:30AM tee off. We played Grandview. I shot a 54 on the easiest course of the week. I was pretty bummed. I picked it up in the afternooon. I shot a 52 at Carroll Marty, 4 strokes better then the first time I played there. I had a stretch of 7 birdie chances over holes 16 thru 4. I only hit 3 of them. I was very discouraged after I pretty much parked #1 & missed a 15 footer. I was just happy to get thru the hole & down the hill, then to blow the putt, really bummed me out. I played that day but wasn't able to get over the hump and have a good day to move up.
We got some much needed rest and had a 11:30AM tee off at Ewing. My body wasn't quite right Friday & I couldn't get my drives going. I managed to shoot a 63. I did see a guy take a circle 10 on a hole. I held on and ended up making the semis.
Saturday morning I headed back to Walnut Ridge to redeem myself. I got off to a rocky start. On the 2nd hole I got pissed off & played a hole very poorly to say the least. I took a 7 on the 2nd hole. I ended up shooting a +7, 4 strokes better than the first round at Walnut Ridge. My only 2 of the round was 400 foot hole #1 which I 2'd the first round as well.
During the week I played 9 tournament rounds and 2 tag rounds against Dan at Walnut Ridge/Sinnissippi. Right there I played 11, 18-Hole rounds for 198 holes. Dan & I also practiced at DMACC, Carroll Marty, Big Creek, & Ewing. I have no idea how many holes we played but my body is feeling it. It was a very fun week. I got to meet some very cool people and some very crazy people. I learned a ton from the experience and saw a lot of things I need to work on to become a better player. One thing that did pay off is that I took very few risks. I had only 1 penalty stroke over 9 rounds.
The courses were AWESOME & very TOUGH. I was very surprised at the quality of courses. We didn't even play 2 of the courses that the pros played. The tournament was very well run and I really want to try Worlds again.
I definitely agree with Brett that I was a little too tired for leagues this morning  oh well, I can't help myself. Man that was an awesome week though. Thanks to Damon for reserving a room and splitting it with Brett and I. Thanks to Brett for chauffering me around for the week and grilling out on that state of the art grilling machine  I was glad Brett and I managed to stay in the same pool all week. (also glad it was the top pool :D )
1st round at DMACC I was -1 with 3 holes left. i rushed a 15 footer and the wind picked it up and took it 30 feet past the basket. stupid double bogey. got pissed off and bogeyed an easy 3 on the next hole and then finished up with another bogey. +3 was still a solid round out there though and i was on the 3rd card.
2nd round (Carroll Marty) i played solid golf but took another stupid double bogey which kept it from being a very good round. still on the 3rd card though.
3rd round on the nasty Big Creek tore me up. I salvaged a +8 which kept me in the top pool.
4th round at DMACC I struggled in the wind and couldn't make a putt. I started putting with my Orc  and kept the round from being a complete disaster with a +6.
5th round at Walnut Ridge was horrible. I got a little fatigued and stupidly didn't eat anything before the round and I really fought my game. +11 didn't knock me out of it though. I was still in position to make the semis.
6th round and Grandview I got dialed in and had 7 deuces, but unfortunately made a couple bad upshots and took 4 bogey strokes on a course that u shouldn't be bogeying. -3 was still one of the better rounds out there and I moved up into position to maybe crack the top 20 which was my goal at this point.
7th round at Carroll Marty I was determined to shoot under par and move closer to the top 20. This was my downfall. A tourney roll which cost me 3 strokes and then another bad kick on a drive put me at +3 with 5 holes left. I still was thinking under par stupidly. I put a drive in the woods and then i was seriously pissed and let my emotions ruin my round. I made a bunch of stupid half effort shots after that which left me with a ridiculous +8, the worst anybody shot out there that day. Never be a baby like me and give up on a round. Now i regret it horribly because after a solid, but not spectacular 8th round I ended up missing the cut by 3 shots.
so much for the top 20, I ended up 88th :( atleast I got $80 in free plastic for 88th. I was real happy for Brett who played real smart, consistent golf and picked up a 34th place finish. he has really been improving his game. man i hate losing to him though :P there's always next time though. I hope everyone gets a chance to experience Worlds though. It really is worth it.
Bruce, Kelsey and I headed out to Walnut Ridge at 7:30am on Sunday morning after Worlds was over. I hadn't even seen the course and people kept telling me that it was the best course out there. Bruce had one of his Worlds hot rounds out there with a 58 and I knew that Brett had shot well into the 60's on his rounds there. We played the long tees in the thick morning dew. I was driving straight and strong and my upshots were on target. I was hitting my putts. I did nothing amazing but played probably my most consistent round of the year. Bruce shot +13, Kelsey shot +22 and I shot +6 for a 60!!!
Had I shot a 60 both rounds at Walnut Ridge, I would have moved up to 21st place. My 2nd round was a 61 and the included a 7 on hole #9.
I came home with $150.00 worth of Merchandise for my 34th place finish & a pretty good case of poison ivy.

He had to help me look for my discs in the practice rounds!

Ratings are completely messed up for Worlds, but in an expected way. Kelsey's group appears to not have been rated because they weren't on the same "page" as the GMs. This will be fixed when the ratings are calculated. The other thing that is messed up is that once the "Great Shuffle" happened people in different groups previously were being rated together by round even though they had played different courses by round. Final ratings have the same problem. These instant ratings were designed for tournaments where all divisions are playing the same course.
Did any of you peeps see a demo about the Quarterk-K by DiscWing or anything?
QuoteDid any of you peeps see a demo about the Quarterk-K by DiscWing or anything?
Talking to Quarter-K / Discwing was onmy to-do list but I never saw them.
Kelsey's unofficial average rated round was 802. She is biting her nails on whether she gets to play Intermediate at USWDGC or has to play advanced.
i'm from ames, iowa...go to school at iowa state, and am gonna be moving into the chicago region in the next week or two. i didn't play in the worlds, but lived across the street from the isu course, and have been playing the carrol marty course almost every day for the past 3 years. i couldn't make it down to des moines to watch some of the other courses, but i definitely had a blast watching the ones in ames. i'll keep my eyes peeled on this message board in the next few weeks...i'm looking for a league to play with once i get to chicago.
Where abouts in the Chitown area are you moving to? We should be able to give you a list of leagues in the vacinity of where you're gonna be.
if ur on the north side, then come to Waukegan Sunday mornings at 10 and Libertyville Tuesdays at 6. also, Lombard had leagues Wed. at 6 if ur closer to there. if ur down south, then screw u :D just kidding.
Nasty Nate talked to the Discwing guy I think. He told me he asked the guy if the disc was overstable and the guy said he wasn't sure because he is just a beginner. I guess this was some english guy who supposedly owns the company.
Its all about the wind tunnel testing.
I checked out the pdga discussion board today. Chuck Kennedy had the ratings for each course listed for good conditions. Hopefully they are close becuase it should help my rating.
Looks like I shot 958 rated disc golf for the week if those charts are accurate.

According to Chuck's figures my 60 round was a 976 rated round. My best shots consistently made for an entire round of 18 holes is a 976 rated round. I'm digging it. Not sure I believe it, but I like the sound of it! B)
Bruce, do you have an email address for Ron Put? Please forward the attached photo.
scary
Yep seriously creepy
Damon,
I had no idea you had a twin brother :D .
Depending on how good your eyesight is they look quite a lot alike at about 50 feet or so. Although they have a bit different body sizes so if you see them move around at a distance you can tell them apart. But still at first glance walking down the tournament hallway I kept thinking that I saw Damon only to find out that it was "the other guy". It's funny, Bruce talks about Ron Put sometimes but never mentioned he looked like Damon. Maybe to Bruce all old guys look alike.
Brett, if that is the order you played your rounds, it looks like you seriously ran out of gas at the end! I had my best rounds, 991 and 992, on the last two days of regular competition. I think my nine rounds averaged out to 947, but the lowest round will be a "no" so I will get the ratings effect of having averaged 953 or so.

Bruce,
That was not the order I played in but I did run out of gas. My are was very sore the last 2 days. Dan & I should have played for bag tags every practice round rather than throwing a bunch of drives. Going out to Ewing & blasting drives all night was a big mistake.
Here is the order I shot.
DM-> 55, 1,000

I tried to talk him down but he is a madman! He told me his arm never gets sore, but now look who's crying
QuoteI started the gallery for 2004 Worlds pictures. There's only one photo in there so far and it's just the welcome PDGA Worlds sign on the Sheraton sign. But I'll get more up there as the week progresses.
Jon,
I've got a mess of pix to upload. Can I add them to your gallery or should I start a new one?

You can add them to my gallery.
I just sent some pics of Brigitta and Johannes to a guy in Sweden who does work on the www.discgolfsweden.se site. I hope they use them, it would be cool.
