Grass tees. This course may be one of the worst courses I have seen. It is very short with a terrible layout. You can't even play # 1 because you have to shoot straight across a playground. There were all kinds of kids playing. Don't waste your time. 3 baskets are taken out in the winter.
Yeah, I played there once when I worked in Downers. Man, the best thing that course is for is putting practice on 2 or 3 holes. No maintenance had been done in years when I was there about 5 years ago.
I stopped here yesterday to practice midrange and putting. 4 baskets were out for the winter and 3 holes were unplayable due to a group of people playing cricket. I wouldn't recommend it unless you are a beginner or just need a quick practice round.
This isn't a bad course, just a bit short. Yesterday there were lots of geese guarding one hole, so I left them alone and skipped it. The nice thing about this course is for the most part it's just you against the baskets. Not much in the way of obstacles to blame your missed shots on, and you never have to worry about losing a disc or wasting time searching for one in the rough - there isn't any!

Making it one of the worst courses in IL by far. This is in my top 5 worst courses in IL. I've played 80+ of the 100 courses in IL.

I'd agree with that, but then again I like nearly every one of the 200+ courses I've played. O'Brien is what it is: Safe haven for the chucker and a nice spot for good players to practice. I usually play 9 holes to warm up (my best round is -11) and then make up 400--700-ft safari holes. Throwing from the top of sledding hill and from across the lake are always fun options. By the way, the playground issue has been resolved for quite a while.
My father-in-law (who lives in DG) said he read in the local paper that the O'Brien disc golf course had just been completely redone. Has anyone else heard anything about this, or been there since the remodeling?

They were putting in new design with cement teeboxes late summer and were supposed to get new Chainstars; last time I checked they were dug and roped off, but not poured yet, but that has been a couple of months
I live nearby and go there when I get new drivers to learn the flight path and play from my own tees; you can chuck away on some long throws with no fear of losing them so it is good for something. I would not recommend driving any distance to play here though; The design was originally submitted by wrongway Corrigan but the new PD guy threw it out and thought he could do a better job (who never played once) and turned it in to a lame pitch and putt Too bad, as it is not a bad piece of poperty.
