Title: Disc dying
Post by: drdye on January 24, 2003, 06:32:49 AM
WOOO HOOO!!!

I just got an e-mail from Sunking discs, asking me to start dying discs for him.  So everyone can be rest assured, the plastic on the market is about to start getting a little better.

I really have you guys to thank for all of this.  Brett, thank you for giving me the dye recipe to get this all started.  And thanks Jim for telling Sunking that my discs rock!!!  My discs do rock, but you guys rock even more!!!!!!!!

The Doctor was telling me about this disc before leagues today. It is sweet, but in his description the seller seems to be getting defensive about his work. (Our own Jojo is makin' people sweat!)

Jojo,

I was more than happy to give it to you. After the first time I tried, I knew I didn't have the skills to dye discs. It takes lots of time, patience, & experimenting. I can't wait to see your dyes in the future. They keep getting better & better. Good luck & i'm glad to hear you hooked up with the SunKing!

Later

Brett

What do you normally charge to dye a disc, Doc?

I'd love to, but the way the site is set up, it makes it almost impossible to add items like that.  I will, however, want some for when I start selling discs on eBay and I plan on keeping a ton of discs on me when I'm playing or sponsoring events or just casual play.  But that'll be sometime this summer.  I'll keep you posted.

JoJo-That's cool. I just didn't know if you were looking for another place to sell them. I still want you to do some for my bag though :-)

not just yet.  I have a few ideas I have been tossing around, but ran out of plastic to dye.  Thats okay though, soon I will have a shit load to dye, and I will then.

Well, I havent started charging, yet.  Just because I wanted to get as much pratice as possible.  But, now that I feel a lot more confident with my dye process.  I was thinking, for a basic, easy to do dye would cost a minimum of $2.  And then it can go up from there, depending on how intracate the design is.

Pretty soon, I will be buying a bunch to dye and sell.  And those discs will start around $12-$15, and go up from there.  Thats, what the plan is for now anyway.  Who knows what will happen in the future.  But, I do keep improving and my process is absolutly getting better, darker, and sharper.

Why do you need some DR DYE plastic for Huzerhurths.com?

Brett, I would love to dye them for you, but we better do it before the end of Feb.  After that, all my disc dyeing efforts will go into Sunking discs.

Josh, as far as your website, thats too bad.  I will eventually have some sort of DR DYE.com to sell them anyway.  As far as e-bay, I will be the only one selling DR DYE discs.  Otherwise, I am missing out on the money for my own art.  It wouldnt be logical from my stand point.

I think I would be a little upset if I dyed a disc for somebody I knew and they went and sold it, for more profit.  I cant let other people make money off of my art.  Sorry.  That is just how I feel.  In fact that is the reason I put DR DYE on all the discs, so nobody can take credit for my work.

I just re-read that.  I sound like a Dick.

I dont mean to come across that way.  I am just passionate about my art.  I have been for a long time, long before DR DYE and even the thought of discgolf for me.  I have always been an artist, and a very passionate person about what I do, and the way I feel about what I think is right.  Sometimes a little thickheaded too.  Anyway, I dont mean to sound like a jerk.
