Title: DR DYE's Spider
Post by: drdye on March 18, 2003, 12:39:51 PM
Well, out of the 12 "payment plastic" discs, I just had to keep one for myself.  I chose a beffy 175 spider, took off the stamp(new technique) and dyed a sweet sunburst-sorta thing.  With some geometric designs.  I think I was trying to explain it to someone at leagues last sunday.  Well here it is....so far.  Let me know what you think.

BTW you said you have a new way of taking off the stamps, Kyle and I were just talking about that the other day.  How is it done?

As soon as Dr. Dye came upstairs to tell me he could remove the stamp on a disc, I asked him how.  He replied that it was a trade secret that he wasn't going to release to anyone.

BC-

That makes sense.  It's like how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop...the world may never know.

Doc,

If you could do one for me like the one on your first post, that'd be sooooo cool! I like that it has all the geometry going on but than has that organic thing happening in the middle also.

As for your samples, I wouldn't be disappointed to have some of my discs come back like any of those. But the following are my favorites: 18, 19, 28, 39, 40, 41, 44, 55, 56. Becky and Maddisen liked them all and didn't express any favorites.

I do like the American Flag ones, but I didn't give you any white discs and I wouldn't be able to throw it anyway. So, while I can appreciate those, I wouldn't actually have you dye one for me.

Becky wanted to know how soon we'd get the discs back but I told her not to rush the artist!

Jon I will give still do the design on your white XL ice bowl stamp how I have said.

I'll pay for the work you do, just price as you have outlined. You should get paid for the work that you do. I didn't ask for a written estimate. : )

And once again one of my posts doesn't sound quite like I intended. What I meant was that if you make a complex design on one of the discs you are doing for me, I'll pay the complex price.

I got ya the first time Jon.  I do have your discs dyed, shall I post the pic's?  Or should I wait until you can see them in person, for the first time?  It is up to you.

You can post the pics if there is someway I could get them before Saturday. If I have to wait until Sunday to get them, then I don't want to see them before I can touch them. : )

I also just put up an online gallery of all the discs I dyed for Sunking, so for anyone who just gave me plastic or was going to give me plastic you can go to this page and let me know if there are any you like and if you would like something similar.  Here is the link.

http://www.theshortpeople.com/gallery/album38

So go check it out.

Thanks a bunch Mirth!!!!!

I have alot more, didnt know if I was already takeing up too much space or not.

They are numbered for easy reference.  If you look at disc #10, the stamp is of a disc flying into some chains.  On the disc, on the stamp, I also dyed DR DYE.  I thought it was cool.  Thought I'd share.

Any opinions are welcome.  Good or bad.  It is the only way I know if I am doing good work.  And it helps me better myself, if I have as many opinions as possible

Wow, thanks guys.  I really appreciate the feedback, it gives me a good perspective of what people like, or dislike.  Maybe I will put a few more on the page tomorrow.  I have a few more pics of disc's I have dyed for non-league going friends, that most of you havent seen too.

Jay, I am ready when you give me the disc.  I can do something extremly close at least, gotta look at the pic again.

Jon, your discs should be ready for you at leagues this sunday.  And I remember you saying something about triangles, I was thinking of doing something similar(to my spider) on your white Ice Bowl stamp XL. All those triangles are cool.  But maybe with different colors.  It may not be quite as intracate, as that it takes alot of time and patience.  But I shall so my best.

Oh speaking of different colors, when I spined the Spider I just dyed for myself, in my hand for the first time, something really cool happened.  The part where the orange comes to a point turns purple, some sort of illusion of color.  Like the colors mixing right before your eyes.  It is amazing, I will bring it for all to see the magical color changing disc.

Anyway, keep the feedback coming, and I will keep producing cool dyes.  I will probably keep doing it anyway, but love feedback.

Thanks again guys.  It means alot to me.  I really enjoy reading all that you have to say.  I'll say it again...it really helps me to get better, and what designs to continue to work with or which ones to set on the back burner.  On another note.

Thanks BC...he is correct in saying that I do know how many licks it takes to get to the center, but I cant tell(or I'd have to kill you).  I just have to keep some things a secret.  However I can make that an option when I dye anyones disc(s).  But it takes a little more time, and effort so I would have to charge a little extra.  To cover to cost of those supplies.  Let me do the math....getting calculator....probably $3 extra, because unfortunatly its not as cheap as the dye mixes.

I have also been thinking.  The discs your viewing up until now(disc's #1-60) are all fairly easy-to-do designs.  As you can see by "my spider", I have alot more potental.  The discs I have done and will do, for venders, will probably remain easy-to-do designs.  Not to say they are any less cool, just easier to do.  Of course I will get better with time and practice, and will naturaly progress.  But the discs that I purchase, dye and sell, myself are going to be the best of the best.  Top and bottom dyes.  Now with that in mind, it wouldnt be fair for me not to dye someones disc, better than the easy designs.  If they wanted something a little better.  So I guess I am going to have to make some sort of pay scale.  I will break it down, for everyone.

Standard design(easy design like #1-60)-$2

Standard design with Standard dyed bottom-$4

Bad ass design-$5

Bad ass design with Bad ass bottom-$10

Any stamp removal-$3

That is all I can think of, let me know if I let anything out.  Oh and I will anyones first disc for free(standard design).  Anyones discs I have now I already told I would charge $2 a disc, so they grandfather any price I just set, for the discs I have presently.  Jon I will give still do the design on your white XL ice bowl stamp how I have said.

Anyway, I think that is enough typing for now.  I think I will go upload some more pics to the gallery,  so be sure to check it again.

Yeah, I cant make the tourney on Saturday.  I cant find anybody to cover my 2 hour shift.  What bull**** eh?  So I guess we will have to wait until Sunday.  Unless you happen to be in town(kenosha) before leauges.  I understand though, I wouldn't want to see a pic first either.

Hey everyone.  Dont forget, most of those discs(1-60) Sunking will be selling soon.  I would imagine.  So if you see any of them that you really really like and gotta have, give him a call or check out his website at:

www.ebaystores.com/sunkingdiscs

I am pretty sure that is it.  I think he has another website or two he just got up and running, they are in the links section, I believe.  So check em out.

well, I have never "touched-up" any of the photos, you've seen, of my dyes.  In fact I dont think I could make them look better by screwing with it, I dont have that knowledge.

And...everybody has to have there secrets, if you want I can dye some plastic for you and you can try to figure out how I do it.  I have a few different methods.

These are really great!  Some of them are just flat out awe inspiring.  #16, the one with a "cyclone" on it (I assume it is a Z Cyclone) is very cool.  Some other very sweet ones that really caught my eye:  10, 28, 33, 34, 52, 54, 57, 58, 59, 60.

The one you did for yourself, the "geometric Spider", is just incredible.  If I happen to get a hold of a nice, clear Spider, I am definitely bringing it your way!   Seriously, nice job!

Great Contrast's so I saw White discs.... yellow and maybe red... what's the trick was there any digital touch-up done to the digi-pics... what's the secret come on man..... is it Rit dye..... or is it a thermal secret to the dye application or maybe it's anomaly in juxtaposition to the solar system's outer axis....... mmm could be....
