Title: 50/50 Basket Fund CTP
Post by: CEValkyrie on July 21, 2004, 01:23:09 PM
I'm just throwing this out there to get some feedback for the future as we look into some long term planning starting in 2005.

Currently, there is a $6.00 entry fee for leagues. $5.00 of that goes into the payout & and the other $1.00 is donated to DISContinuum Disc Golf Club to pay for league certificates and league prizes. The rest is put into the bank club bank account to pay for operating expenses.

There is also optional
$1.00 CTP (Closest to Pole)
$1.00 Ace Fund

$8.00 to get into everything is the highest entry fee in the area. I don't want raise the entry fees higher.

What do you think about changing the $1.00 CTP to a 50/50 CTP basket fund. Would you still get in the CTP? That money would be tracked & used only for new baskets.

Also, for 2004, i'd say 95% of all players have entered the Optional CTP & ACE Pools. Should we make these mandatory?

I would perhaps keep the CTP optional but make ace manditory....

Why not instead take $.50 from each players' $5 towards the basket fund?

I agree with Mirth. I think you should take the $.50 off the top.

Then I have to change payout tables & have more quarters. I don't want to make drastic changes leagues. Leagues have continued to grow & I don't want to mess with the payouts. Changing the CTP seems like a minor change rather than payouts.

How does taking $.50 from a $1/player CTP versus the $5 payout fund make you need less quarters?

I don't think the payout for the cash CTP is big enough to split and still draw people to play it. People will start to think well if 12 people get in then the payout is $6...ah I won't bother. Then pretty soon only 6 people will get in and the payout will be $3. The reason why 50/50 CTPs work at tournaments is because they usually charge $2 to $5 for them and there are a lot more people at tournaments to get in so that there is still the "big" prize.

When we have odd players it gets all phooked up.

I guess it's really not quarters, it change to deal with. I guess I could round but that means more work redoing the payout charts.

Say 9 players show.
9 X $4.50=$40.50.

$40.50 X 70% = $28.35/2 = $14.175 each
$40.50 X 30% = $12.15/2 = $6.075 each

I think you guys have some valid points.

Here is what the 50/50 CTP in Joliet brought in.
Copied & Pasted from Joliet Discussion Board->
"For the first half of the season THE BASKET FUND raised $504. "

I also think that the regulars that play our leagues get what disc golf is all about. If they know in advanced I would like to believe they'd get into the fund sinc they know it's going towards new baskets.

If you really want to do it, I'll support you. You run league well and I want you to continue. Consider making it mandatory and if anyone ever options on the $2 rule, just take $1 out for the CTP so they are in for the 50/50 CTP also.

Actually, you're 'shafting' the 2nd place players by 6.5 cents apiece, and giving it to the first place players.

Nothing "extra" should be mandatory..

We're paying to play at a league here with 20 guys, not a huge 100 person tournament, and even there it isn't mandatory.

I definitely agree with diron that the CTP shouldn't be mandatory.  Its common to have a mandatory ace fund though.  I think the 50/50 CTP is a fine idea though.  I believe that very few players would even think twice about throwing in an extra buck if it was 50/50.   Most people just get in for everything and aren't worried about whether they win 8 bucks or 16 bucks for a CTP. The ace fund however is definitley something that people look at when they come to a league simply because it can be a substantial amount of money sometimes.   Thats just what I think would happen, I could of course be wrong.

Ace pool is mandatory at some leagues - Lombard, for example, and nobody there seems to have a problem with it.

I agree w/ Brett that the $8 total for 'everything' shouldn't be increased.

I'm all for earmarking $ for a basket fund however you want to do it;  I'd go w/ taking .50 off the $5 payout, and bringing a bunch of quarters for your entry fee so Brett doesn't get stressed out.  :P

And I will make it back to leagues one of these days...

Brett knows that if he ever needs quarters he can come raid my change jar at home.

I think Brett should get input like he is doing, and then as the league coordinator he should make a decision.  If large numbers of people don't like it, it will be obvious when they tar and feather Brett.

I was told Lombards entry is also $4.00..

Then entry for Lombard was $4.00 and another $1.00 for the Ace Pool. I think it was mandatory but didn't ask. For me, I don't look as the Ace Pool, whether it's mandatory or not as part of the entry fee. It's a side game in my book.

it's always been $5 as long as I can remember, and $1 just goes into the ace pool. I haven't heard anyone question it.

I was not questioning the entry fee. Whenever someone asks me what the entry fee, I tell them. The entry fee is $4.00 @ Lombard, $6.00 @ Libertyville, & $5.00 @ Round Lake & Crystal Lake. I don't include the $1.00 because that's really not the entry fee, it's the ace pool wether it's mandatory or not.
