Title: North West Suburban Doubles 2004
Post by: Jon Brakel on September 04, 2004, 05:55:25 PM
Dan and I played in the North West Suburban Doubles today. It was a bring your own partner best shot format. Dan and I played 18 holes at Buffalo Grove, made the cut and then played a final 9 at Palatine. Other groups played at Elk Grove and Palatine for the morning 18 holes. The top 1/3 at each course qualified for the final 9 at Palatine. There were 13 teams at Buffalo Grove. Dan and I shot a -12 and came in second behind Tom and Jose. Because the teams played different courses in the morning, the score in the morning was just a qualifier to play the final 9 at Palatine. Dan and I shot -7 at Palatine to become the first Champions of the North West Suburban Doubles! I contributed quite a bit at Buffalo Grove, but Dan had to do the driving at Palatine. I hurt my back while warming up at BG and by the end of the day, I couldn't drive very well. I did deliver on quite a few putts at Palatine.

Tom Christiansen and his partner Rob somebody came in second after winning a playoff against Tom and Jose. They all shot -6. Dan also is the North West Suburban Putting Champion after winning the putting contest before the Palatine final 9.

For a micro tournament with a micro entry fee, the payout was FAT!! Dan and I paid $10 each. We both won 3 discs (Orc, Beast and swirly APX), a mini, a regular Innova hat and a no-name starter disc golf bag. I traded my Beast for Dan's APX and we both decided that we would donate our bags to CTPs at the Blast. They will only be eligible to be won by someone who doesn't have a bag. I told Dan that if we see that there are only two players without bags, we can skip the CTP and just give the bags to them. We also both won trophies and Dan won a trophy for being the North West Suburban Putting Champion.

It was a lot of fun. Thanks for carrying me at Palatine Dan--I know it's not an easy task to carry me!  :D

Oh, I forgot to mention (this is the edit). This was the brain child of a guy at the Palatine park district, but somehow he got hooked up with Kathy and Mike Kamm to help with the prizes and figuring payout and all that. I saw Kathy when we got to Palatine and she said to me "Jon, it's nice to see you! We think alike on the payout--we have to get together on a project sometime." Later we talked of an idea for next year--something fun. More to come on that, I hope.

Sounds like a great event. Too bad there wasn't better advertising up by us, your post is the first I heard of it!

I tried my best to find out more information about the event. I heard about it about a week ago. I left messages for the disc golf guy at the parks dept. in Buffalo Grove, but never got a return call. I was unsure of pubbing it when I didn't really know too much about it, but Dan and I decided we'd try it anyway. Since it was a modest success, I think they'll do it again next year.

this was a pretty fun little event.  all they did to advertise it was throw up a flyer at Elk Grove, Buffalo Grove, Palatine, and Lombard.  I was very surprised at the number of teams that came out at every course (about 12-15 teams at each).

I didn't carry nobody, Jon is just being nice  :)   Winning the putting contest is probably the largest achievement of my lifetime.  There isn't much left to live for now.
