Since I have a concert on Sunday I went down for the (unsanctioned) 'Am' day today.
"Intermediate", "Novice", a women's division, a couple of Junior divisions, Am Master....
and "Intermediate Grand Master".
Which I won by 5 strokes.
In the only other tournament I played there, 2 or 3 years ago, I shot a pair of 55s. Today I shot 55 the first round (4 deuces, 3 bogs and a sloppy 5), and a solid but completely unspectacular 54 the 2nd (2 deuces and one really ugly 5 which I literally gave up blood for...).
The Masters group had a 3-way tie for 1st with the same score.
There were many baggers in "Amateur", the winner went 46-51 or something.
The payout wasn't great but there were only 4 guys in my division so I wasn't expecting much. (Two of the guys have beaten me pretty good before, so that was additionally satisfying... :D ) I got a very cool engraved 12" wooden disc for finishing...
FIRST
though. The weather was great, not too windy, and the course is gorgeous.
I expect to hear similar results from the other club members playing tomorrow. ;) Enjoy yerselves...
Congrats Damon!
Good going Damon! :D
That area is notorious for having a bunch of baggers that play intermediate.

...that's a typical problem w/ unsanctioned tournaments; there's nothing stopping them <_< .
I could've been considered borderline-bagging myself, maybe, but two of the other guys in my group are at least at the same level as I am.
Lots of people play both days; maybe they sell their Saturday plastic for Sunday's entry fee. :P
Channahon was a fun course. This is definitely a Putter, Roc, Thumber, Tommy course. There were 2 temp holes set up for 2 rounds of 20. Gary awarded a plaque to Frank Grimes for all his hard work on the course. He's done a ton of work to the course & it looks fantastic. There was right around 100 players on Sunday.
I took 2nd of 43 in Advanced shooting a -8 & -6. Only 1 bogie on the day but couldn't get hot on a 2 or die course. Tafe Hemler won shooting a -14 & -6. His first round was fun to watch. His score would have been good for 3rd in Open.
Dave Shaw has made the jump to Open. He shot a -14 & -13 winning Open. Sean Butler has also made the jump & shot a -7 & -12 taking $90.00 for 5th in Open. I've heard talks of Pat Blake making the jump to Open as well. Those 3 will definitely make the quality of Open play go up in IL.
Bingman won Master shooting a -14 the 2nd round & came from behind to beat Rod Fritz. He shot a -8 the first to total -22 on the day.

Nice job, Damon!

Frank's a great guy - he aced #1 on our last hole in Saturday's first round. He also threw a bunch of thumbers with a Dr. Dyed disc - forgot to ask him where he got it. (fortunately for me he was having an off day with them... :P )
