They've moved the short tee for #18 since last spring, right? I was there today and it sure seemed a lot closer.
Yeah, university politics caused it to be moved to a closer and easier position.
They moved the tee because people were hitting the 9/11 tree.
i aced it the other day
Was this your 2nd drive, and/or was it using an illegal disc? ;)
anyone know who now has the key from the tournament? we need to move some of these baskets before we get a freeze....
anyone have an opinion on where the baskets should be for the winter?
my opinion the only ones that should be moved...
5 long staight
7 off of the hill to right.... we want to rebuild the hill, so that it is teired better. goal is to get a flatter landing area around the basker that we can sod.
12 short
15 or 16 long? we need a tough hole.. 16 has been cleaned up, so the line is huge.
17 original... I hate the location that it is in now. I duece it... but hate it.
I'd like to see 3 back in the original spot. Did the collar ever get fixed?
Maybe 14 off to the left and 16 in one of the alternate spots too.
14 was moved because of poison ivy in the left location. I don't know much about plants and stuff, but will the poison ivy still be active in the winter?
The layout sounds good to me.
Shawn, we can talk to Dave, he has a key. Maybe we can have him move them during the week...or he can let me borrow it.
I would like to see 15 and 16 both in the longs.
Is four ever in the long position outside of tournament play?

Just for the winter.... the baskets freeze up in the anchors.
Thanks to the folks who cleared Parkside's teepads. Every one of 'em was clean and ice-free yesterday. It made playing in 4-degree weather much nicer.....

Poison ivy is active year round. The urushiol oil is found in every part of the plant including the stems. I've gotten poison ivy in the winter by leaning on trees that had poison ivy vines climbing them.

Boy, had to go back a couple of months to figure out what that post was about!

One of the many reasons that I don't play those computer games that require eye-hand coordination and split second timing. My reflexes are a little slow.
Thanks to Shawn, Paul C. and Dave for spreading chips around the course yesterday.
Baskets have also been moved around so that some of the IOS #1 placements could be "preserved" for a little while. I think there are only about 5 holes that need to be changed.
It's supposed to be nice this week. If anyone is interested in playing on Tuesday or Wednesday send me an email or PM.
In the last 3 days 2 signs have been ripped off... To replace these signs it will cost as much as a new basket... It just sucks to put so much time to make this one of the better courses in the area and then people come and destoy it.. I have also noticed that a few of the baskets have been pushed around so that they are not straight now..
We are planning on putting another 18 holes in... I'm starting to think that we can't even patrol the one we have so why bother... Maybe we should just buy the baskets, put the anchors in and just put the baskets out there for events only, and pull it when the event is over..
I am going to pursue for more police enforcement this summer out on the course.. They have bikes and ATV's... I'd really like to see some arrest for vandalism out here, as well as underage drinking... There are trash cans on every hole out here, but some idiots just can't seem to put them in the trash cans... thing is these beer cans when we pick them up are still 1/4 to 1/2 full... Do adults do this? most likely not..
Skip this one.
Seems like everyone but me carries a cell phone. You may want to post the University Police phone number in a couple of places around the couse so anyone who sees some fool stealing signs or other wise being distuctive can call and report it. Hopefully the police will respond.
This kind of stuff really sucks. I played Round Lake last night at 6:30PM. Garbage is everywhere. Someone has been breaking bottles near every basket. I painted over many baskets that had writing on them. One nice big "smoke weed" with a plant & another "F!@# You" around the band. Trees are getting broken down like crazy.
Parkside also has seen many broken trees lately...especially in places that present no real obstacle to the basket.
One way to keep the "fair weather" golfer away might be to ticket their vehicles. No one wants to keep getting tickets.
FYI
Baskets have been moved to the winter positions... They are 1-long, 2-short, 3-right, 4-short, 5-straight ahead, 6,7,8,9-same, 10-left, 11-right, 12-long, 13-long left, 14-straight, 15-long, 16 straight, 17-left, 18-same.

That's interesting, I never knew there was any other placement for #3. B)
Went and played Parkside today. Figured school would be out so this would be a good time to go. What a great course!!! Liked it so much I played 4 rounds. I'm definitely going back, but I have a question. All the parking was signed as permit only. Where do you park when school is in? Also, how hard is it to play 16-18 with students all over the place? I was trying to figure out how many campus dwellers I would have pegged in the head today. :P
Used to be you could go to the campus security office and get a one-day parking permit. I don't know if that is still the way it works.
there are about 6 parking meters at hole 1, or go to the union and get a pass for 2 bucks , or go 2 the police station which is behind the buildings if you look across Wood Rd. by #4's basket... or if your like the Milwaukee guys, park in the soccor field parking lot and start on hole 10 and don't pay anything.
When school is in swing no one gets in the way, there is not much foot traffic around those areas.
Just heard.... not sure of all details... 2 men arrested yesterday at Parkside for attempting to steal #4's basket. A motorist saw 2 guys shaking the basket loose and called the police, police made it there to see a car with trunk open and a guy dragging a basket to the car... Ohh and the kicker of the story is that it was around noontime... this place is busy around noon.
w00t! great to hear! :D

I played this course in the middle of February, and yes, during the week just go to the security office (I forget the name of it, but it's on the east side of the Campus). Just tell them that you want a day pass for your car, they'll ask why, and then it's $1.
I played at from about 12:15 - 2:30 and played all 18. They were doing something near the street with big machinery, so I had to start at 2 and come back later to play hole 1.
There were quite a bit of people playing, but generally once you get into the wooded area you won't see as many people. It seemed like I heard a bunch of people mentioning that they had to get to class or something, so they left after playing a couple holes.
I wondered what happened with the different placements of the baskets. It's amazing the versatility they have with that course!
That's awful to hear that someone was trying to steal the basket. The one on hole 4 is probably the easiest basket to spot from the road, so it wasn't exactly the most brilliant people working on that heist. scum.
Couple things:
1. As the daylight stays with us longer, I found this information on the UW-Parkside Police website:
Q: Do I need a parking permit to park at UW-Parkside?
A: All commuter parking lots on campus require a parking permit MON-FRI, from 7:00am-6:30pm. Weekends do not require permits.
2. In the school newspaper they have a Police Blotter section. This is what it said regarding the basket:
"...12:06 pm. Officers observed two suspects removing a disc golf basket along with a vehicle with an open trunk. Two citations were issued for vandalism and one citation was issued for Operating after Revocation..."

Sterility should be the penalty. Morons like that shouldn't be allowed to reproduce. :Whaxatk:
Gotta find out the names of these guys! :s-minigun:
I was looking for a post but I couldn't find one so I'm posting here:
Hole #8 (mound hole) is finally aced! Congrats, DOC! There's a picture of the disc on his SITE (http://www.drdyed.com/gallery/ACED-DR-DYED-DISCS) but I'm not sure what it is.
I think this means that every basket has at least one ace on it (at least from the short tees). NOTE: this doesn't include all of the alternate pin placements, just the baskets themselves.
way to go joe! :)

Oh how I'd love to get my first Ace...
Anyway, from the link that you gave to site, if you click on the disc itself it loads another page, and the URL states that it's a Wraith. It says IN_S_Wraith_test, so that tells me that it would probably be an Innova Star Wraith (and some sort of test dye on a star disc). That's my theory :)
Hole 8 is such a neat hole!
I wish I could have seen that one! Congrats Dr! :icon_salut:
Joe
Awsome Ace. :naka: That is one tough pin placement.
I assume it went in on the fly and was not a skip ace. Ya?
Nice ace Joe!!

Nice Ace Doc...
Thanks to Joe Weitzel and Jim Runge for the chipping. Joe is out there today spreading limestone/gravel/whatever that stuff is in front of the teepad.
Dave Light has been out there every Saturday morning picking up trash.
You guys are doing an awesome job.

UPDATE:
Heard yesterday that the two individuals who pulled out the basket were indeed intoxicated. They were hanging on/shaking the basket. Thought it would be funny to pull the basket and hide it in the leaves under the big trees. Something eventually clicked, or sobreity started to kick in, and they drove around to the hole with an attempt to pull the basket up to the roadside hoping someone would notice it and replace it.
idiots
I'm sure they weren't bringing it to the roadside to put it in their trunk!......Nah!......heavy sarcasm. ;D
I'd like to thank everyone that has ever played a tournament at Parkside... your fees have been used to put in a nine hole course behind the cop shop on the east side of Wood Rd. The anchors are in at this time and the baskets were put together tonight... all we have to do is weld the chain assembles on and we should have them in... most likely install this Saturday afternoon. Lots of work needs to be done on this course and if you land off of the fairway you will be in some thick praire.. as we see foot paths form in certain areas we will mow it more. I borrowed a lazer rangefinder and will get some distances up here soon.
Look forward to a Darkside Nine event this fall..
Shawn,
Thanks for the info & hard work Shawn. Can't wait to see the new holes. Tell the parkside crew fantastic work as usual!
Thanks Brett, everyone responsible is pleased with this expansion... Come on out as the baskets are in and the course is playable... might want to wear long pant and bring a few spotters..
Heres the scoop, the course in behind the cop shop.. If you can see the building, they can see you.. We do not have trash cans there yet so please pack out what you pack in.
#1 is a horseshoe RHBH hyser, 223ft
#2 DO NOT GO LEFT, it is a swamp... only 10ft wide it is a disc thief. path is in road on left of swamp is OB. 328ft
#3 Over sumac mound... 292ft
#4 downhill 469ft
#5 my favorite... corn is OB (not really in play for this t-pad) uphill 417ft
#6 first tree on right mando to stay left 319ft we are planting a phone pole there with a MANDO sign on it.
#7 straight well placed 420ft
#8 short 275... talking about making this a USDGC style hole.. stay tuned.
#9 375ft
More mowing will be done as we see the foot traffic and throwing patterns, its some tough praire.. I lost 2 disc out there today so you may want to leave your good plastic in the car... or just find the fairway on your drives.
A new path is in after you finish hole 3, go left into the woods, not uphill to the right... we are going to put in a anchor for hole 1 on the top of the hill of the path on the right so naturally we had to move the path..
Anyone get out there yet? Some really sweet new holes... just bring a spotter or keep a good eye on your shots.
NEW INFORMATION
The entire Union Parking Lot will go out of service beginning May 19, 2008. This is the parking lot you use to park for the disc golf course. You may wish to consider parking to the east (across the street) of hole #4 and then starting on hole #4.
I'll update with more information as I learn of it. No news about removing any of the first couple holes yet.
Are the tees clear up there? (@ UW)
Not sure. Haven't been out there. I can't make glow tonight but they usually shovel as they go along.
I don't have a shovel so I'm no help on this one.
I played there last Saturday when there was still 6-7" of snow. I was pleasantly surprised to find both tees shoveled on the first few holes. However my comment about "whoever did such a great job shoveling probably got tired around hole 6" came true as we came up to that tee. A few holes through the woods were shoveled a few days before the first 6 were, but they had some ice buildup since then. Based on the weather I would say that 10-12 of the 18 are going to be 100% and the others will be pretty good. Thanks again to whomever made that happen, we had a blast there.
glow doubles still going on this friday ??
Glow doubles at 7:00. Haven't been there in about a month so I'm not sure what type of turnout there has been. Predictions for tomorrow are for 3"-6" of snow accumulation.
Thanks serg hope to see you out there!!
Hey Shawn Serg Craig Ed Dennis and all the folks responsible for the expansion - THANKS!
I got out on Sunday (yeah, of all days I pick the coldest) and played for the first time. Great layout! Darkside keeps rockin!
What's the course condition right now? In terms of water, any holes on the old 18 affected by expasion yet, the new 9, etc. I've been out of the loop for a while, so I don't know what's going on there, but I was thinking of going up there tomorrow. thanks
COURSE UPDATE
The parking lot that is located near Hole #1 is now CLOSED. DON'T TRY TO PARK HERE!
OPTION A:
Park in the lot across Wood Road (to the east of Hole #4). Walk across the street and either start on Hole #4 or Hole #5. You still need a parking permit so make sure to purchase one from the police station for $1.
OPTION B:
Park in the Communication Arts Parking Lot (the lot most people parked in for the Prairie Open). Walk up the sidewalk to Hole #16 and start from there. Permit also required.
OPTION C:
Park in the Sport and Activity Center Parking Lot. Follow the sidewalk along the backside of the building to Hole #15 (along the softball field's outfield fence). Permit required.
We are still not quite sure when Holes 1-4 will be pulled. I will update when it happens. The original 18 are all currently still in the ground.
I better get there before 1-4 are pulled. Are you still playing glow on Fridays?
Yep. Glow every friday...I think it's been starting between 8:30 and 9:00. Two weeks ago it was close to 8:30. Didn't play last weekend so not sure what time it started.
The way it looks right now is that the current course will be in the ground for 2 weeks... maybe.. hole 1-4 may be pulled any day.. Sad to say but, holes 11-14 are being moved out of the woods towards the road.. design on the 8 new holes should be figured out tonight so we can get to final trimming.. The layout is mowed and most of the scrub is already trimmed.. If anyone wants to get a say or see what is going on, you are welcome to come out and see what is going on.. We will be out there just about every night till we get the baskets moved.
If anyone want a tour or help either pm Serg or myself or call me 262-909-0329
New holes are after hole 10, same side of the road go south down the road about 100ft.. there are 5 holes there. 3 more holes cross the road to the south of hole 11 on the outside of the woods.. plays to the mound.. then go left.. every thing is staked for teepad and proposed basket location, these may change slightly.
Lots of people can not believe what is going on, but change is good... We fought to keep the holes in the woods... we won and lost at the same time.. We are getting a pavillion and another 18 holes for us moving out of the woods.
Thanks for your hard work, I always enjoy getting up to Parkside for a tournament or two.
Basket #10 at Parkside was stolen last night. It probably will not be replaced any time soon.
Dennis

Bravo on the course construction! Its one of my all time faves for sure!. #2 ad #5 are absolutely spectacular!
I played out there last weekend, and made a thread all about it on Disgoflreview.com's forums. I made some maps from sat photos and it would be great to get your input on them, as I just did the locations off the top of my head.

How many of you guys know about this course located in Kenosha? From what I have gathered so far, it is mysterious and nameless.
It is located right across the street from the UW Parkside DGC and campus, yet seems to be completely unaffiliated as far as I know. I went ahead an searched for it on google sattalite maps and to my surprise, it showed up clear as a bell! So I took the liberty of opening photshop and adding the basket locations and hole numbers to the best of my memory's ability for you guys.

This 9 hole course is an absolute joy to play. Great mix of shots and plenty of variety. Also Its a wonderful place to test your driving accuracy at full power, thats for sure. Its one of the best courses I have played in WI.
So who has more info on this gem? Im dying to help donate time and get some teepads and signs in there!

Please contact me if you need any help out there! Id love to get involved somehow. Id be happy to make signs or something or help pitch in on some teepad material
TEMPORARY COURSE CLOSING
For the first time in course history (I believe) we are pulling the course to give it a "spring break" along with the rest of the students.
The course will be pulled sometime this week, definitely before the weekend. The course will go back in the ground the weekend prior to the Parkside of the Moon event.
If you haven't played the "Beast on the East" yet now would be a good time if you're coming up to play.
Glad I got out there today! The only holes I thought that needed a breather were 8 and 9. Whatever grass was in the fairway before is all trampled to death by now.
You are correct, those two holes are the worst.
#6 and #12 fairway areas are ankle breakers.
We plan to use this time to do some clean-up and trimming of the course as well. For some fun reason people tend to break down trees that are in no way a part of a hole. This has been a concern of campus administers. This will give us a chance to "clear out" some of those as well.
Thanks for the update, Serg.
Sidenote: I found that pin I've been meaning to give you for the past year. I'll try and not lose it again and give it to you at the tourney.
I am thinking of going to Parkside tomorrow. I will have some time in the middle of the day roughtly between 9 and 330. I have a meeting early morning in Lake Geneva and again at 430 and Parkside looks like the best bet unless I go to Lippold or Anna Page. What's the summer parking situation? Do I need to check in somwhere to avoid a ticket? Also, I have not been there since last year, has the parking area changed? Just wondering. Looking forward to playing this course again.
does anybody have pictures of this course that could be posted in the image gallery... i've heard this course is sweet :D

Above is the link to the SE Wisconsin Disc Golf club's website which has photos of past prairie opens and has photos of each of the holes with a drawing of each of the holes. Not sure if they have the new hole in it or not.
thanks, that is sweet how they have the pictures hole by hole with the distances and layout ...
The SE WI folks decided they didn't want to keep their site last year, so I've kept renewing it... Glad its still got information people are looking for on it!
Thank you to anyone who has supported our fundraising efforts at the last two Prairie Open events. Your generosity has allowed us to FINALLY install 12 new holes. A group of volunteers installed the sleeves on Saturday. Our goal is to have the baskets put together and on the course by the weekend (or at least before the end of it). The new holes have elevation change, distance and a couple shorter technical holes. Currently only one set of tees are in place and only one basket positiion per hole.
These holes are directly north of the current 9 holes on the east course. The "East Course" will now play as a 21 hole layout. Talk on Saturday has led us to believe the course will begin with the new 12 (holes 1-12), then onto the current 9 holes to play holes 13-21.
The course is staked out but does not have numbers, yet. That, too, should be done soon.
Stay tuned for some course photos and more updates.
I would like to publicly thank DENNIS MILLER, ED WALLEN, DAVE LIGHT, SHAWN FALLON, PAUL KUFFEL, PAUL CLARK AND BRIAN KIELAR for the help in putting in the sleeves, building a bridge to an island green and mowing the course. Thanks to all of the above as well for designing the course and being patient as we had a number of obstacles/discussions that needed to be worked on with the university.

Great job to all involved. Thank you.
Has anyone been up there recently? I am thinking about making the trip this weekend. I have heard the course is closed and baskets are pulled in the spring periodically for drainage issues. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Tee signs and tee pad markers are now installed on the EAST COURSE!
THANK YOU to all involved in putting things together and getting things installed:
Ed, Dennis, Anthony, George, Tall Paul, Paul K., Dave, Shawn, Justin
HUGE THANKS to Ed and Dennis for supplying the lumber, tee signs and measurements.
The course begins with holes 1-9 on the south side and 10-21 on the north side. Basket 20 still is currenlty without a basket but we hope to have one in the ground soon...the process has begun to purchase a new one.
Currently only the long tee pads are marked with tee signs/distances. We have found a number of short placements and have marked them with spray paint for the time being. We will have the shorts mowed and created hopefully in a few weeks (still determining some of the placements).
Next: Course sign near the entrance of the course.
If you come up to play I encourage you to play the "Beast on the East" course. Give us your feedback. This course is very different than the original course. It actually has elevation. Open course with protected baskets. Fewer woods holes but the hoels within the trees are technical. This course is in much better shape than the original (no wet holes!)
Awesome work guys! I was planning on playing the course on Wednesday. Is there a course map anywhere?
Unforunately there isn't a course map up just yet. I'm going to be out there today taking pictures of the tees signs/holes so I can get those up hopefully tonight.
I think it's pretty easy to navigate (once you find the first tee) ;D
I'm working on getting signs up near the "front" of the course so you can find it from the parking lot.
A preview of the course distances. Still working on a map.

Is there any updates on a map or scorecard?
My son and I have recently taken up disc golf and have been playing at UW Parkside nearly every day for the last couple of weeks. All the info that I can find on the web (Maps, pars, scorecards, clubs etc.) are horribly out of date - sometimes by several years. The folks at the student union seem to have no clue.
I stumbled across this thread a few days ago and discovered the east course. What an unforgiving course for a novice in the summertime. It sure is a good place to loose discs. I'm sure we'll revisit it again with some more experience under our belts.
Any current info would be appreciated. What is par on the west course long holes and short holes?
Welcome to the sport!
Here is a link that should help you out. Click on the "links/files" tab to get to the map. Although there is no map for The Orchid/east course posted yet, there is a great map/scorecard for the Original/West course.
As a new player, you may want to consider using a spotter/lookout, especially on the Orchid course. This should minimize the lost disc issues.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, that's the scorecard and map that I have found and the course has been updated (holes added / moved) since it's printing.
My son and I keep an eagle eye out for each other's throws - that helps.
Sorry about that. I guess I should have looked at the map first. Some of the holes are still the same with old #5 now the new #1. Maybe Serg has the new one?
I found a cell phone on the east course Thursday.Perhaps the owner would like it back.
