Post by: whofarted on October 04, 2004, 09:37:05 AM
hello out there!

sitting here in rockford illinois scratching my head on why i dont see more of you disc golfers not making the trip to rockford to play our course.  for those not up on things, we got a permanent 36 holes in one park.  both courses playing over 5000 feet with some very cool shots.   its my opinoin that we have the best park in the midwest; if you've played token creek of madison or lemon lake of indiana it is the same caliber of course.   the thing is noone in rockford plays it competitively except the twenty or so league players.  what id like from all of you who enjoy playing new parks is to come out and see what we got going for us.  we got skins play at 8am and doubles at 10am on sunday mornings.  bring some five dollar bills and enjoy....

I am one who has not made it out there. I really wish the Rockford would have a sanctioned tournament. I have to pick and choose what events I attend & only plan to play one nonsanctioned event this year. There are leagues every night of the week in this area & on Saturday & Sunday so driving that far for leagues is out of the question for me. I've heard good things about the course & will get there eventually.

first off, im glad people are showing intrest in the course.  it really is everything people make it out to be.  the thing is that we need to start getting out of town players putting the heat on our club to get something going for a sanctioned event.  when we hold a tournament we get twice as many am 2 players as advanced and open combined, which is great but its not attracting real players that are looking for a sanctioned event.  what id like to see is some out of towners come and show intrest in our course so that others in the club know that the support is out there for a real event.

Sanctioned events are sort of like the movie The Field of Dreams.... If you sanction it, they will come. Especially if the sanctioning is done plenty of time ahead of the event! :D

well whofarted,  your club may not be getting its act together regarding a tourney. What I can say is that when I was out there I was amazed at how many people were on the course.  There seemed to be about four or five groups playing but the entire park was besieged by flying plastic by the time I left around 6pm.   You guys have a very strong after work contingent of throwers.  And, yes, the course is great.  By the way, I was playing the East, not West course.  I will try the West when I am in town on 10-12 around 1 or 2pm.  Let me know if you want to throw.  I am an extreme amatuer.  66 on last visit.

I really like the rockford courses.  Ive played the old one like 3 times and the new one once.  The problem is its about an hour from my house and its tuff making that trip if thats the ONLY course around (unless Im going hardcore all day and gonna go to madison or something)

But the courses are really cool.  I really liek the new course.  I think its like the Mokena course but  ALOT better.

never played the mokena.

were working on getting concrete teepads, or atleast limestone, and having another set of pin placements on both sides.  so three placements on the old course and two on the new.

Hi guys, Greg Nettles of the Peoria Frisbee Club here. I visit your site occasionally to keep up. Whofarted, my sister lives in Rockford, so I am coming up there soon. To be honest, I am not crazy about the "original" course there (the layout seems strange to me, also some dangerous areas, with tees in the middle of fairways, etc.), but I would come back if the new course was really good. Is the new course a lot different from the original? I played Mokena, so if it REALLY is better than Mokena I would definitely come back. Any info is appreciated. You guys come down Peoria way, look me up. I'll join you for a round. Thanks!

I would agree that Anna Page Park has a top notch course.  Why don't we make the trip?  Because its too freakin far!   I'll go to Lemon Lake and Madison to play PDGA tournaments.  I would love to do the same for Rockford, but as you know you have never had a sanctioned tournament.  There is no reason that you guys can't have a huge tournament there, bigger than the Homie.  Players from Madison, the Quad Cities, Chicago, and Peoria could make the trip there.  ALOT of money could be raised for your club.

Greg Nettles

I played the new, West, course with whofarted this past week.  It is more wooded and has a lot of tighter shots.  There are a couple of open, longer, holes but there are plenty of tight ones.  The course is not as long as the original, but still tough and fun.  I disagree with you about the original course with one exception.  A couple of the tees are near fairways.  However, somebody would really have to screw up a shot to hit you on the tee.

I finally made the trip to Rockford on Saturday. We played both courses.

Original Course
I like the original course. It had cement tees & 2 pin positions on every hole. I liked the A/B markers on the tee signs. That is the first time i've seen that & it was very helpful in locating where the baskets were. This is a very challenging course. You must place your tee shots to take pars. There are very few easy birdie holes & lots of bogie holes. I disliked the length of the tees. They seemed short. You could not run up from behind most of them either because they stick out of the ground. There were lots of baskets you could not see from the tee. It was windy as heck out there. I'd say 25+ all day. I shot a +4 on the original missing several putts. I'd like to go back to see what I could shoot. Shooting par seems to be pretty good in my opinion. What types of scores are good out there?

New Course
I liked this course more than the original course. It has dirt tees and 1 pin positon. The baskets are awesome. I didn't know Gateway made baskets. They are similar to a chainstar. There are some tight long woodes shots on this course & a good mix. I shot a +3 on this course.

Overall, I think this is the best facility in IL. These are 2 really good courses in one location. You can play there all the time & experience every type of shot.

Last,  I could see where there are potential problems of a few baskets being near tees. It's such a big facility, I doubt there are problems. During a big tournament draw, it could cause some conflicts.

Yes they do, and they're priced similarly to Chainstars. I can't tell if we'd be able to get any type of discount due to our relationship with them, I'd probably have to email Dave.

Greg- I will be in Rockford on Wednesday.  No biz until 1pm.  I was going to try and throw in the morning.  Are you free?

Get some advance warning of the Bushwackers or whatever you guys are called next tournament.  The courses are well worth the trip.

1pm is when i get out of class on wed.  if you want to postpone work for a little bit maybe...?  i dont know how long you plan on staying in rockford on wed, but we will be starting doubles around 4:30 - 5ish.  we normally have a decent turnout, maybe ten to fifteen or so.  good times to be had by all.  gice my cell a call wed morning either before 10am or after 10:50, if its super nice i may dip out of my class a bit early.  hopefully see you wed.....

Hope you feel better.

I did get out there today.  Incredible weather for November.  Also, you guys moved the baskets to the easier locations which helped my score considerably.  7 over without a 2.  Great for me.

for those that may be attending tomarrows doubles, just a quick heads up- although the weather may be looking drab tonight, it will be partly sunny tomarrow with a high of around 44.  the only thing that may suck is that its probally going to rain tonight and if it gets below freezing the tee pads will ice over, but we got plenty of salt for those types of situations.... hope to see alot of you folks out there.  we've been real fortunate that we can play golf in light jackets in the middle of december and on, but realisticly those months are fading away and won't be back until late march, so if you want to play rockford doubles on a relativley nice day tomarrow may be one of those last chances.  happy new years!

i'd like to take this oppurtunity to talk to all of you about lord of the rings 3: the return of the king (or lotr/rotk as i like to call it).  possibly the best movie ever adapted from.... nahhh, i wouldnt bore you with that stuff - but i would like to make a correction on our feb tournament, it will be the saturday after the superbowl.  same format as usual, bring your own partner, best shot doubles.  entry fees will be around thirty bucks but thats yet to be figured out exactlly... one thing that makes this tournament fun is that we have the award ceremony at a bar down the road, similar to milwaukee's ice bowl, where families of our club members make chilli, sloppy joes, and other winter time foods that are complimentary to everyone that plays.  and of course people will be getting staggering drunk afterwards which can be fun both to watch and participate in. hope alot of you can make it over.  ill get a post going on the tournament page as soon as the info gets solidified.

Diana got the LOTR DVD set for Christmas from both me and her mom.  We spent an enjoyable 20 or 30 hours watching the extended play version and all the Making Of stuff over the Christmas holiday.

Anyway, I was posting to send you a lengthy e-mail about the Rockford IOS event, but the e-mail address Brett gave me is bogus.  I'll send it via Forum mail but that's like sending a post card.  The admins will all read it first!   :D

hello everybody!  looks like things are getting worked out for a tournament in rockford this summer.  hopefully this will be the start of many good tournaments to come at anna page.   i sincerely hope that all of you out there come and support both rockford and the illinois tour because i know that jon and others are working real hard to get this going.  and i think that its only the start, with everyone working together i think that an illinois tour could get players from all over the midwest because of its central location and the many great courses we have.  cant wait to see it all materialize....

I tell ya. You guys gotta quit it with that "long drive to rockford stuff"(just kiddin') No really, i drive about 175 miles round trip EVERY sunday to rockford 4 winter league. Many times leaving at 6:00 or 6:30 A.M. just to get there in time 4 skins! I live about 20 miles north of madison, WI. Why you ask? CRAZY i am? Perhaps. In all honesty, rockford probably has the most competitive winter league in our area. With people from as far away as sterling(65 miles) and wisconsin regularly attending. With an average of 10 guys at 8 A.M. for skins, and 20+ for doubles. So get a carpool goin', sing some happy songs, and you will be there B 4 you know it! Hope 2 see ya.

I'd love to come more often but we have our club winter leagues every Sunday at 10:00AM.

We say long drive becasue in the warmer months we can play leagues almost every night of the week. All less than a 45 minuted drive.
Monday- Crystal Lake
Tuesday-Libertyville/Streamwood
WednesdayLombard
Thursday- Round Lake
Friday- Kenosha (Glow)
Saturday- Round Lake
Sunday- Waukegan

I'm not sure what night Palatine has started running leagues. Did I miss any?

Wow, sounds like you got a lot going on league wise! That's really cool. We only have 1 league a week in madison in the winter(saturday@ 11:00 A.M.) Which is a motivator to travel on sundays. I hope to see everyone who reads this(pass the word) at the arctic blast in Feb.    P.S. The tourney should feature one round on each course(as long as the ground stays frozen, which shouldn't be an issue) 8)

todd- funny how the guy in first says its the most competitive league around.  just busting balls, good shooting so far this winter.  rod was talking about abondoning it for a couple weeks because he hasn't shot well so you may find yourself in sole posession of the top spot this week.  good luck...

well things are looking good for the Forest City Frenzy.  I think I'll have a design by the end of the week and flyers made shortly thereafter.  its looking to be a day full of freebies - if all goes the way it should we'll have two primo baskets for raffle or big toss, a hundred specialty stamped discs as well as 15 in brass cash for the ams included in their players package.   the course should be lovely too, im working with the park district right now to allow them to let all of us use some of the land by the creek for one of the sets of alternates.  if they allow it those should be some phatty holes.  weather - i predict a cool 84 degrees with a tail wind at every hole...

...i cut and pasted CEValk's IOS 2005 page and sent it up to Milwaukee with some friends that are playing today, so hopefully all the events are getting some good press right now.  if you know anybody that is playing tomarrow you should give them a couple copies to take with and give them to discberry.   adios hombres!

Whofarted? Hell, who posted crap?  Anyway, it'd be nice to limited the number of consecutive photos to download.

Todd and GRABM- Anna Page is one of the premier courses within Illinois, if not the best.  It is nice to have a course without other conflicting activities.  It is shameful that the new Illinois courses installed outside of maybe Mokena seem to be pitch and putt courses and poorly designed.  Have a disc, design a course syndrome.

Your club runs excellent tournaments such as your 12th Artic Blast. Keep up the good work!  Rockford has always had good tournaments. The only critique would be to work out the schedule as to not conflict with other regional tourneys. This would certainly increase participation.  I suspect that this is more important than whether it is PDGA-sanctioned and subject to the PDGA taxing body.

I accually thought that the anna page course was VERY poorly laid out...  all that land and you still have to be worried about getting hit whenever you tee off or are putting.  I hope some thought goes into that problem before the concrete is laid on the new course.

I do like the fact that both courses are right there with no other activities going on.  I have never heard "fore" so many times at an event... and it was not even full.

Think I should add what holes I'm referring to...  hole 1, I like this hole but a tee box is 30ft from basket and my drive went right past it..  and the last 3-4 holes, all the same and even used some of the others fairways.

it would be better to take out 2 of those holes and utilize some other area for a better layout.  Up and down through that valley with the same shot... boring.

i'd like to think we did the best we could with land we were given.   i do agree that the last four holes are close together but thats just the way it worked out.   i will bring something up to the club because i completely agree that before we lay concrete that we should step back and think about these things, but that's the club's decision - if you want to become a member call carl spray at 815-239-1811.

When is this "world's biggest" ? and what is that avatar??  How was the eurotrip???
Title: rockford's anna page park
Post by: whofarted on April 04, 2005, 08:12:15 AM
worlds biggest is a promotional thing for disc golf.  the way we do it in rockford is we have a pro-am so newer or less experienced players can see the potential for growth in the sport and included in the twelve dollar fee is a shirt, disc, and other prizes.  we normally pay top third and for the pro-am but the last place folks get something to for the efforts.  after the round is over we have jumbo tosses and normally everyone sticks around for a casual game/ course clean-up round.  i've been participating in it for three years now and it is a really good time, lots of give aways and lots of newbies on the courses.   i do think it is the first week of may this year, but i'll get a definite answer for you within a day or two.

not quite sure of the avatars origins, i just thought it looked bad ass!  i'll probally swap it for the homer one again soon but i thought i'd switch it up for a couple of days.

the euro trip was everything it should of been.  lots of imperfections, but those imperfections made it perfect.  i went skiing for about a third of the time and sight saw the rest.  salzburg was one of the coolest places i went, its hard to believe that i was drinking in pubs there that were older than our country.  the skiing was a bit wet but when you only get four days in a year, doing three of them in a foreign country is alright with me, no matter what the conditions.  i tried my damndest to hook up with some juliper but i could not find it in anyone of the five countries i visited, sorry mirth.  i did however bring back a phatty tour de' france poster from the thirties which will be framed and hung in all its glory near my entertainment center.   as soon as i unpack the digital i'll throw some pics up for your veiwing pleasure....

thanks to those that showed up for world's biggest, i hope you all had a good time!

over the weekend a crew of ten helped in manicuring the courses and picking up peoples litter.  i can say with a hundred percent assurity that if you havent been to rockford in a while you will notice a difference, especially in the wooded areas -we made pathways and took out loads of dead brush.   we will continue to make the park better in the coming months in preperation for july's Forest City Frenzy event.  hope to see you all in attendance - remember, a free specialty-stamped disc for all preregeistered players.

also, we have started a summer league on wed. nights at 6pm.  it is a typical 5 buck random draw doubles.  we have been getting about 10 to 15 weekly, but every week seems to get just a bit larger....

I am amazed at how sharp digital photos are these days.  It looks like you had a 4 megapixel camera.  If you click a second time on the images you get great resolution as it zooms into the photo.  I would have liked to see some action shots of plastic flying but these were cool.  Thanks.

looking back on the day i cant even remember having a moment to sit back and watch some discs fly.  not saying that there wasnt time, but by that point in the week i was so stressed that i didnt really take time to sit and take it all in.  i didnt even hit me that it was a huge turnout and good time for alot of people until a week after when alot of the rockford guys were talking it up.
i am really looking forward to having another leg of the IOS in here at anna page, maybe a bit earlier in the summer.  hopefully some of the sponsors that didnt thrown in this year will get on board for this next one so we can get some serious added cash for all the divisions.  and we will be doing it over two days, so it should be a little easier to handle.

Howdy all!

Next Sunday, September 11th, the GRABM disc golf club will be having its yearly picnic.  It is 15 bucks, and for that you get all the bacon-wrapped steak and beer you can consume.  We'll be setting up a temporary course at Seward Bluff Forest Preserve and if it is anything like years before we will have a couple cross-creek shots, some long bombers, and a really cool cliff shot that Fred Vroman will never forget.   Bring your portables, silverware, and a side to pass.   We'll be starting at 9am and going to dusk, but feel free to show at any time!

got some good news from the Rockford Park District - there will be a third course installed at Anna Page this summer!  once installed, the park will become a pay to play facility, probably 30 to 40 a year or a few bucks for per day.  look forward to water hazards, some long holes, and plenty of trees.

Tell them to go all out & get a qualified course designer to redo the new course & this one at the same time. That could move Rockford to #1 if that happens.

thats one thing that will be brought up to the club.  some will fight tooth and nail to keep the new 18 the way it is, others will welcome the change, but i cant imagine it being a simple decision for this group to make.  dave gentry of gateway has expressed intrest in helping design the new addition and possibly redoing the old one - he got street cred and hopefully the guys of GRABM will take his advice.

Ok, so my wife and I for our anniversary went out to Rockford.  One of the planned events was to play at the Anna Page park :)  I'm pretty sure it was the east course that we played at since it had the concrete tees, the A/B tee signs, and older looking baskets.  I don't consider myself a great player at all, but I knew that I was throwing well today.  I shot a 67 today for the 18-holes which is -3 the posted signs for the par (although I didn't see a tee sign on 9, but I'm guessing that's just a par 3).  I was pretty happy with that :)  The pin placements were in the A position.  Is that the typical spot for them or is B the typical location?

All I can say is ... WOW.  What a tough course.  There were a TON of people out there.  Yeah I could have been out at IOS #1 today, but I've only played UW-Parkside once.  I didn't want my second time playing the course to be the tournament.

I can't believe how nasty some of the curves are on these holes!  Very nice course.

Unfortunately my wife was pretty tired after the first 10 holes and just walked with me for the majority of the rest of the holes.  We also decided not to play the west course due to fatigue.  I soooo have to go back out there sometime though!!!

QuoteThe pin placements were in the A position.  Is that the typical spot for them or is B the typical location?

the majority of the year the baskets are in the either the easiest or the most visible position (october through what is supposed to be may 1st).  we ended moving them all to the 'a' position after yesterday's 10am doubles round.  they'll stay that way for a few months and then get moved to the hardest positions in june and stay that way until mid july when they get moved to the desired positions for IOS 4.  then to the 'b' position in august and back to the easiest or most visible from october on.

QuoteAll I can say is ... WOW.  What a tough course.  There were a TON of people out there.

thanks for the props - talk to any of the locals who maintain the course and they'll all tell you they take alot of pride in anna page.  the wood chips that you noticed around the first four tees will be laid on all tees and some basket locations within the next month or so, and the GRABM club has been talking about redesigning and laying concrete on the new side - you can look for that in 2012  ;)

i dont know if it the spring time rush or what, but we have had a ton of people out there ever since it has been warmer than 45 degrees.  i think as anna page develops this summer and with the new course being added on the east side it is only going to keep them coming out, playing, and participating in our leagues and tournaments.

oh cool, so I got to use the A placements just after they were moved, neat :)  I don't think I've ever thrown so many blind drives before.  I almost completely missed where hole 8 was because after I finished 7 I saw the tee for 9 sooner than the tee for 8.  I didn't see an actual tee sign for 9 though, hopefully I still threw from the right tee?  I also noticed that the tee for hole 10 was pretty loose and kept spinning around in the wind.  I hope no one tries to be cute and take the sign.  The signs were very nice overall though.  They were descriptive enough to help me find where the baskets were at.

The only thing that bugs me is that while I threw great there yesterday, today at Oak Brook I was out there stinking it up again! ARGH!

howdy all - just wanted to let you know that we have been getting a good group of guys together on wednesday nights at 6pm to play doubles, wolf, skins, four ball, or whatever people want to do.  it is not the same old sunday morning blue collar bunch that you may know, there are few representatives from there, the wiscinois crew, some outgoing and unafraid recreatinoal players, and various others.  we have been meeting at 6pm for the past month and half or so and every week has been a really good time - everyone gets along great, no bickering, and everyone has a say on what course and what game we play.  if you can make it out sometime we'd love to have you.  bring some lincolns and enjoy~

What are wolf and four ball?

4 ball - get a random partner, but instead of playing the best of either shot you play your own disc and take the best score betwee the two.  for example - if you and i are partners.  we tee off on hole one - you finish the hole with a duece and i finish it with a par - we take you score and we are now both negative one.

wolf (my favorite) - 5 players are numbered i through 5.  we play 20 holes.  everyone plays in order 2 will go after 1, 3 after 2, etc... i am going to just give an example because explaining it might take a while....

tom - 1
greg - 2
dan - 3
mike - 4
brett - 5

you tee off first on hole one because you are number one (also 6, 11, 16).  you didnt really park it so you dont cry 'wolf' (which means the other four players play against your shot.  you wait to see what i do next.  i completely shank it left and leave it 60 feet from the basket - you pass on me.  dan steps up on the three spot and parks it right under the basket - you pick him as a partner.  now it is you and dan vs myself, brett, and mike.  both brett and mike shoot and leave it 20 feet away.  we take the closest shot and all three miss.  now you and dan are one under and mike, brett, and i are even (assuming we make the par putt).

next hole - i go first because i am in the two spot.  i shoots and park the stank out of a 400 slow fade anhyzer - i know that there is a very small chance that anybody else is going to park it so i cry 'wolf' and then the remaining four of shoot and play the closeest of the four against my shot.  luckily, i missed the seven foot putt and brett canned the 60 footer from deep.  now you are two down.  i am still even.  dan is two down.  brett and mike are one down.

it goes on till the 20th hole and the best score wins.  you cant choose a player after the player after them has thrown.

i hope this explains it or at least gives you a good idea - i know that this months disc golf live has better instructions than what i put down here so if you can watch that it'll help.

We play Wolf almost like a skins...  each hole is worth 1...  if you call wolf and win the hole the points are doubled what the hole is worth..

thats how i've played it as well.  wolf is a pretty fun game if u have like a 5some and u want to make things interesting.  sometimes its better just to screw ur drive up and be part of the squadron if u have 5 guys.

I loved how the group ahead of me decided who was going to throw first when I played at Rockford.  As they started walking towards the tee they all started yelling "not it!" and the last one to say it would be the first one to tee off.  I know it's simple and silly, but I thought it was great.  We have a guy that always wants to go first in the group I go out and play with.  He'll do it for every hole too regardless of if he had the best score on the previous hole.  I don't mind it too much, but sometimes it can play head games.  Although... he does make for a good guinea pig for how the wind is going to take a disc on each hole :)

i dont quite get how the skins are taken - more often than not it will be 2 people versus 3 people unless someone calls wolf.  if the team of 2 beat the team of three then do they both get the skins?  if so what happens to the fifth persons quarter?  or can you only get skins by calling wolf?

if the team of 2 beat the team of 3 then the team of two get 1 point (skin). If there were any holes that were tied (halved) previous to this hole, the team of 2 gets those points as well.

Make sense yet?

I know I've seen a site that explains different games. I'll try and find it.

just want to say thanks to those that showed last night for wednesday night league play in rockford.  shawn and fred came in from morengo and rockford had all the regulars plus four newbies.  i dont think i have seen such a large league group that cohesive in a while, maybe ever.  everybody got along great, exchanged names and greetings before the round, traded beers, hacky sacked in the parking lot afterwards for a long time, and generally enjoyed the company of those they were playing with.  oh yes, it was a good time.   shawn and fred ending up taking home the bacon with an 11 down on the old sides 'a' position (which includes 7 and 14 in the long position and several attainable, but very tough two shots).   hope to see more of you out here soon - sundays mornings and wednesday nights are when everybody knows to meet, but if you are coming in from out of town on a different day something can certainly be arranged.  enjoy!

Are there leagues on Sundays?
Title: Re: rockford's anna page park
Post by: whofarted on June 08, 2006, 03:07:52 PM
oh yes - 10am every Sunday.  there aer some people that havent missed more than a week or two of Sunday doubles in the past five years, we got a dedicated crew.  you can expect anywhere from 10 to 20 on an average week.  also, if you are an early riser there are some that get together at 8am to play skins, but most now are just showing for 10am dubs and sticking around for another round at noon.

Saturdays and sometimes Sundays are the only days I can try to make leagues on. I have never played Anna Page, so I will try to make it this weekend, unless the misses tightens the leash! Maybe I will drag the whole family along. Is there a playgroung at the park? My 2 year old can enjoy playing around while I play a round.

anna page has a great playground area with a gazebo, grills, electrical outlets, and washroom nearby.  also, there is a park about a quarter mile away called lockwood that has horse riding trails, old barns, and all other types of farm and ranch type things that are geared for family activity.  so if you want to make a day of rockford it can be easy to do.  as far as dubs goes, i would not bring a family to walk with the most of dubs crew during the 10am round - some of them can get a little lewd in the speech and behaivor, not all the time, but i wouldnt want them to slip up that one time and have your wife and kid(s) see it or hear it.

just played both courses today for the first time. got off work early and decided what the hell, might as well check out rockford at least once before the tourney.

compliments all around, very nice set of courses you got there.
i played the more open one +6
and the densely wooded one +5(had 2 LUCKY drives and deuced 17 and 18)

i am signed up for recreational(this being my second tourney, and i never finished the first tourney i played), but would those scores belong better in intermediate?

shoot that again and i'd say you'll get on the top 15% of the rec field if not higher - probably top 35% of int field.  some of those holes out there, like 7 on either side, will automatically be bogeys for 95% of the rec and int divisions and of course there will be shanked drives, missed putts, and other calamaties from all.  so if you can keep that damage to a minimum, and i'd say that a 5 or 6 on either side is minimal, then you will do well.  what i have been telling people from all divisions us to concentrate on those pars, forget the bogeys when they happen and get those dueces when you can.

Quotecompliments all around, very nice set of courses you got there.

thanks for the props but it is only going to look nicer as we get closer to the tournament - look forward to lots of mulch around the tee pads, proper trimming where need be, the grass being mowed three days before the tournament, and some mulberrys the size of your big toe!

Concrete tee pads have been poured at Anna Page West.  Also, the course has been modified somewhat.  Two of the final four holes which went back and forth through the trees have been eliminated and replaced with two holes that go back and fourth across the open field back by hole 10.  The course routing through 11 remains the same.  After 11, go left to the tee for 12 which plays across the field, wide open, about 450 ft.  Then play 13 back across the field, wide open, about 450 ft.  The old #12 is now 14.  Also, the #15 (old 13) tee has been moved to the left, eliminating any hyzer/anhyzer decision.  It's now just a straight shot.  #17 uses the same basket, but the tee is the old 15 tee.

I know many will like the elimination of two of the tree holes, but I find the replacements uninspired.

That kinda sucks, I like holes with los of trees, more reward when you get one all the way down there.

Title: Changes at Anna Page
Post by: can't putt on June 15, 2008, 04:17:54 PM
Anna Page West is closed for "Maintenance", baskets have been pulled.

Nine holes have been added to Anna Page East.  Two holes have been added playing west and back after number 6.  Be careful, because the basket for the second one is very near the old long placement for hole 6.  We played 6 to this basket before being told there was the change.  Seven holes have been added after 18.  The first three are the same as the first three IOS temp holes last year, except that the 19th tee has been moved towards the road so that (for me, anyway) the only shot is a big hyzer around the tree right in front of the tee.  The second three are all around 330' open RHBH hyzer shots.  We apparently missed the final hole, but it plays to a new basket just to the left of the 1st tee.

The following photos show an interesting addition to hole 15.  On the lone light post in the middle of the fairway a basket has been mounted.  No, that's not my disc in the basket.  ;)  Pretty neat addition, IMO.  Sorry for the quality of the pictures, my only camera was my phone.
