Title: USDGC
Post by: CEValkyrie on October 07, 2004, 07:21:11 AM
34 States are sending a player to the USDGC that is appointed by the State Rep. Illinois is not one of them as of today. I have e-mailed the state rep to find out if an IL player will be appointed for 2004 & if they have been appointed in the past. I briefly looked at the players & only saw 2 IL players that have qualified. Steve Forneris & Mike "Doc" Gordon. Here is the website. http://www.usdgc.com/qualify/pastqualifiers/index.html (http://www.usdgc.com/qualify/pastqualifiers/index.html)

Todd Ebens is also in Illinois, but it's a good question.  ;)

Todd Ebens now resides in DeForest, WI. But he may still qualify to represent IL.

Yeah, I thought I'd seen him listed somewhere else as living in WI, but the PDGA site still says IL.  He qualified through something else though, and Brett's point, I think  :P, is that there's no 'appointed' IL representative.

Hey Pat, you ever coming 'east' again?  B)

I think it is too late for the State Coordinator to give out his invite.  I think he has until August 1.  I could be wrong.

But this is why you need a new state coordinator.  Wilbur is a great guy.  Wilbur and PFC run two good PDGA events every year.  Otherwise he is just not doing the job.  He has basically two solid responsibilities: coordinating a state schedule and appointing a state rep.  He is 0 for 2 in 2004.

Damon,  I am sure I to be heading east sometime. Just not sure when I will be in Waukegan again. I've been going to Kenosha to visit my parents about once a month. I play Parkside when I am there. If I know a day or two in advance I'll send you a pm and maybe we can meet up and play a round or two.

I have not yet received a respone. I've sent 3 e-mails now & have also followed up with an e-mail to the PDGA to see if they could get some details. I also got a response from the USDGC & they said to contact the State Rep.

I know one way to assure that IL gets a player appointed in 2005. Vote Jon Brakel as IL State Rep when the PDGA Ballots are sent with renewals.

If you are already a member, YOU DON'T HAVE TO RENEW TO VOTE!!!

A lot of members think, "I'll renew at the Spring Opener..." and then they don't vote.  There is no linkage.  If you are saving your 20s for Christmas, you can still vote, and renew later.

I am on the ballot. As long as the USDGC gives the state rep an invite to give, I will, if elected, give the invite to a deserving Illinois disc golfer. It will probably be tied to performance at a particular event or events.

Here is the latest information I got from Wilbur->

For the past couple of years the Illinois State Champion has been the IL Rep
at USDGC. Past winners include Scott Martin and Doug Chilcote. This year,
after many attempts, I was unable to get into contact with the winner Bruce
Barbee.
---------------

Hey, I would have gone & i'm easy to contact :D .

BTW, It was Pete Barbee that won Open. Maybe that is why he couldn't be contacted  .

I had no idea that the Illinois State Championship Open winner was awarded that USDGC spot. I wonder why it's not advertised.
