Title: A couple of Questions
Post by: Clonefan94 on October 12, 2004, 06:54:28 AM
I've heard there is going to be 2 new courses built on DuPage County Forest Preserve land. Has anyone else heard of this? Does anyone know - 9 or 18?

Also, has anyone played the new Aurora course yet? I haven't had a chance to get out there, but, was thinking of playing it this weekend. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

The couple that helped coordinate the NW Suburban Doubles tournament were working on the DuPage Forest Preserve disc golf project then. They did not have a confirmation of a course at that time.

I talked to a guy (can't remember the name) at a tournament & he said the Aurora course was decent. I'll have to check that one out too.

the aurora course (jericho lakes) is decent.  pretty east to follow on the first nine, then it crosses the creek for the back nine and is a litle harder to find.  two sets of tees for every hole.  it is worth playing if you are in the area.

Thanks for the information. That is good to know. I didn't get a chance to get to Aurora over the weekend. I didn't feel like fighting the wind on Saturday. I'm hoping to give it a shot this coming weekend. Looks like it should be a little nicer than last weekend.

Where is the Aurora course?  I might have a spare hour Thursday afternoon and will be in the area.  Thanks.

According to the PDGA take I88 to Orchard Road. Go south on Orchard Rd. for 5 miles to Jerico Rd. Go right on Jerico Rd. Park is on the right about a 0.5 mile down.

Thanks.  I now see it on the PDGA website.  I have the PDGA course directory for the Palm and downloaded the most recent version about a month or so ago.  This course was not on the Palm version.

The palm version is very cool.  All the courses are travelling in your bag as you go to a new town.

I am hoping to get to this course tomorrow around 130 to 2 pm.  I ran into two guys on the Lombard course today who are locals.  they raved about the course.  They said to expect to lose discs to either woods or water.  I guess I will pack some extra plastic. They said I should check out the website but I cannot find anything.  They say the park district bought a bunch of Rocs that they plan to pass out at a grand opening but no dates have been set.

Played Aurora, Jericho Lakes, today. Beautiful day, nice park ok course.  I played the Red, easy, tees today and willl try the yellow when I return.  THe reds were pretty short. I threw very well for me but the course was pretty easy.  There are trees but thy are not really a hazard on most holes.  Even when I hit a tree I had a shot at the basket.  There were a lot of players out there for a weekday afternoon.  The back nine seems a bit crowded. If they had a tournament it might seem like an air show. The holes are pretty close together.  I got to use the new Element on a number of @200 ft holes.

Nice info and descriptions. Thanks. I will definitely have to get down there soon. I am going to try to make leagues on Sunday, so that probably kills my traveling voucher from my wife and daughter for the weekend. So, hopefully I can get down there before it gets too cold.

As far as the crowded back nine, I guess all I can say is, "At least it has a back nine." It's so nice to have 18 different holes to play.

Its still worth playing.  When I am in the area I will likely go back there.  I will play the yellow tees next time.  I am not a long thrower but used a putter on two tees and it was the right choice. I'm new too and will play leagues for the first time Sunday.  See you there.
