Title: Injuries
Post by: Brian on November 01, 2004, 06:38:00 PM
I don't know where to start this discussion, so I figured that your body is equipment.  My question is this.  Has anyone ever had a hand injury in a tournament or just in general?  How long did you give it to rest?  I jacked my hand up this weekend at the Howler by slamming it into a broken tree that I didn't see, I guess that there is a downfall to glo rounds.

Also has anyone played so much that they have lost 25-40 feet on drives?

I have never had a hand injury.

I make a point to take at least 1 day off every week. I do find myself running out of gas every now & then. After a week of playing at Worlds I could barely throw 300ft. I had to take the entire week off.

definitely fatigue can take away your power temporarily.  where does your hand hurt?  is it when you grip it?  that sux.  good luck with all that.  what i usually do is keep playing even though it hurts, but that is probably stupid

I have injured my fingers. The only thing that fixed them was to not play until they didn't hurt anymore.

Take this as on opportunity to learn how to play with the opposite hand. You never know when it might come in handy....

I have been attempting that over the past two weeks, thanks to K. Smart and Fred Vroman throwing left handed.

One thing is certian I suck at throwing with my left had.

I split open my knuckle on my pointer finger and gouged my middle finger on my right hand.  It affects my grip leading to control and power issues.

Looks like I'm taking about a week off.

when i was playing ultimate in school i sprained my thumb pretty badly

the entire thing was black and blue and swolen like no other. but i played through the pain

all my putts were huge knife hyzers but they worked somehow

after icing it day in and day out the swelling went down and everything returned to normal

often in the summer when i play a half dozen rounds, by the end of the day i struggle to reach 280ft holes.

its fatige. you get lazy and your form goes to shit - you slouch, your shoulders are off, your rip point is late, your legs aren't working properly - WHATEVER

so i'll take a day off or something and the next day i'll be bombing of course (i am amazing)

best advise i got, and can give with a pain situation - if it hurts, stop

Fatigue makes you play with different muscles and your form goes to pot. Take the break you need to heal.
