Hey Dr Dye - we still partners?
Hey Pat:
you've got a PM.
You're driving Fanning :P
Didn't see anything about sanctioning/non... Not that it matters - j/w
QuoteHey Dr Dye - we still partners?
I'm down B)
Dr Dye - excellent.
Dtrain - Definitely not sanctioned.
should i bring mittens? i'm thinking it might be cold that day. diron i know your retarded, so i'm gonna tell you that your not gonna get away with shorts and a long sleeved shirt for this event. (Elver last year  )
SAYS YOU
I know Pat & Damon are going on Saturday.
Kevin L. & Shawn C. are playin Sunday.
Dan & I will be playing on Sunday.
Anyone else playing?
This is a fun tournament!
I believe that Fred Vroman and Jose Diaz are going to partner on Sunday
Are you playing Brian?
I don't think so. I don't want to take the risk of getting sick, by playing on a brutally cold day, and using my few sick days. This way I can use them in the Spring when the weather is better.

How many do you have? I can give you one of my 50+ i've accumulated :D .
I have only five, and one is already planned to be used the Friday before Tower Ridge. However, if you want to send me a few, I'll take them without a problem.
Hang on to your knickers!
Team aviar is coming to bust your shizzzy
Diron, how can we still be team aviar if you use a wizard?
Diron & Todd. How about team D-Bagger?
A wizard is like a baby aviar, only grown up bigger, stronger, and therefore better than it's parent(s) but of the same genetics
I think there will be some bagging going on, especially with the train being out of service for 3 months
Team T-Dagger, oooo sharp
geez. that was a quick turnaround diron. a few hours ago you said your not playing and then when i mention the payout and suggest that you play intermediate, BAM!! you're healed   dude, it'll be fun. glad to see your ready to play again.
Ha
Therapy is over 26th Dan, just in time for tournament
I'm not ready to play yet, best case scenario is I'm 100% by the tourney, but that isn't likely
It's not bagging, I havent played in 3months Danimal. Even you could probably beat me now
Team 'Dr Dye and I' will be there.
Didn't put much thought into your team name, did you guys? Tsk tsk...
:)
If anyone is interested Damon and I , Team Short Wood, will be meeting at Dretzka tomorrow around noon to play a practice round or two.
The baskets are in position for the Big Chill. The extra holes are marked with flags also. Come on and get in some practice or just play along for the fun of it of you are not playing the Big Chill.
Ahahahah
Team Short Wood
You guys better win with that name, weeeeeee classic
If anyone knows a good partner for a top notch Pro Grand Master, Mark Ellis is still hunting for a teammate. By good, Mark means like 900+, is currently breathing unassisted, and will continue to be breathing all the way through the alternate shot round. Mark is willing to do all the work during the best shot round!
QuoteIf anyone is interested Damon and I , Team Short Wood, will be meeting at Dretzka tomorrow around noon to play a practice round or two.
Bruce, how old is Mark? the grand master division for the big chill you only need to have a team that has a combined age of 100.
Just to let you know that Leagues start today at Dreska @ 11am the 8th. Sergio and I will be out there.
are the tees usually real icy for this event?
No. From what I can remember, they do a pretty good job of clearing and salting the tees.

Mark is PDGA Grand but real life 49.5ish.
The course played well with the snow yesterday, tees were slightly slick. They will be salted heavily for the event if there is even any snow left at that time.
From what I have heard most good teams are shotting 11-13 down for the original 18... The alternates across the road are flagged as well as 14a which is a rhbh hyser around the corner following the road.
I'll keep asking if anyone needs a GM partner for Mark.
I've heard that these teams are planning on playing from this area. Some are already registered.

30 spots already filled for Sunday. Only 18 left. That Intermediate field is going to he HUGE.
16 spots open for Sunday.
make that 14 spots left for Sunday.
The train has been ditched, and is now offically partnerless
I am calling a press-conference:
Team Aviar will not be dominating the intermediate pool this year. It is only fair to not play in order to allow for fair competition. We thought it best to not steam-roll through the competition *toot tooot*
that is all ;)
Thank you for showing mercy.
Only 8 spots open for Sunday. It's going to fill. That is a huge intermediate field.
Off topic - but for anyone that was in my group at the Prarie Open - has anyone seen "banzai"?
That guy was the man
4 spots left for sunday. can't wait, just 6 days away. today was good practice for throwing in the deep snow, thats for sure. thankfully, the tee pads will all be shoveled which will help out alot. putting in the deep snow still isn't easy either though.
Sunday's full! Hope everyone got in who wanted to get in.
or you could hop in with us imitation pros on Saturday... :P
Good to see it fill this year. I bet Sunday will be close to filling by Friday.
QuoteGood to see it fill this year. I bet Sunday will be close to filling by Friday.
I think you mean Saturday, but it's only Tuesday, and who knows what might happen Wednesday or Thursday....
Only 6 spots open for Saturday. Sunday is full. Looks like some snow flurries in the forecast.
man it got cold today. not sure what its gonna be like this weekend.
good luck tomorrow Damon, Pat, Spike, Steve, and Brownie!
Quoteman it got cold today. not sure what its gonna be like this weekend.

supposed to be slightly warmer tomorrow, but the snowdrifts will be a bigger deal for me.
We'll probably get it all nice & mashed down for you guys on Sunday though. :P
hopefully not too much.... need to make those ribbons good for somethign!
Quotehopefully not too much.... need to make those ribbons good for somethign!
I really hate ribbons - they cut down on my distance & I've got none to spare - so I'm only putting them on discs I really don't want to lose.
He's switched back to having best shot 1st round after all, which I think is better.
Good luck everyone... I'll be there for a while Sunday to help out.

Kelsey and I figured it out last year at Cracked Plastic: hire a forecaddy!
So how did Saturday go? How did the Illinois amateur dream team do?
well bruce, the AMs play on sunday. so i'm about to walk out the door and go play and when I get back I'll let you know!

I woulda filed a report when I got home last night but I changed clothes, had a sandwich, lay back on the couch and when I woke up it was 3 am.... :P
Let's see... Kurt Raff & Bill Tesch won open with -30 for 2 rounds (48 holes). Heeren/Warren had -20 for best shot but as I recall only -6 for alt shot. They were 3rd, can't remember who was 2nd, a 3-way tie for 4th incl. Barry and I think Terry.
Spike and Steve were near the bottom but they weren't last.
Brownie and Roy were somewhere near the middle but they didn't cash in masters. Paul Kuffel did, I think.
There were 3 women's teams; Barrett & Jeannine came from 2 shots behind to win by a few.
Grandmasters: Mark Ellis and his partner won by 4 or 5 or 9, which is a shocker, of course. Pat & I finished 4th out of 7, which we were ecstatic about considering we were the only team on the course to finish the best shot round over par. Neither of us had gotten there early enough to warm up (and we're sticking with that excuse) and we blew two birdie holes right off the bat. Were it not for a couple of great drives by Pat and a couple of decent putts by me we'd have been much worse than +1. Still, we didn't think we'd done all that badly and we were a bit bummed to see ourselves looking at DFL.
However, our hidden strength came to the fore in alternate shot. B) We were a much better 'balanced' team than the others we passed, not shooting a whole lot worse than the best shot round (+3, while the others were +9 or worse; in fact, I think we tied for 2nd best score among GMs.) Pat missed an ace on #10 by about 9 inches. (nobody got one.) We still weren't anywhere near cashing, but we didn't deserve it and we sure weren't expecting it.
Weather was great but the snow was deep, footing lousy, cement teepads cool, temp 'teepads' frustrating. Pat was a terrific partner. Glad I played but looking forward to spring.
Quote
a couple of decent putts by me
Don't be so modest Damon. Those putts were 35 to 40 footers that really helped us.
Let me know what you want to do about the tournament in Rockford next month.

The spirit is willing, but today I've discovered a few muscles & tendons I forgot or never knew I had. I'll let you know in a couple of days, I think I can recover. :P
Am report?
I had a great time yesterday. This is the 3rd year i've attended. Very good lunch as usual & it was free this year. There were a ton of players from DISContinuum and the area that attended. I will play next year again.
I believe the winning advanced score was a 126. They shot a 58 the first round and 68 the 2nd round. Par was 72 the first round then there is a debate for the par for the 2nd round.
Hole #10 was played weird the 2nd round. Instead of alternating shot, both players played the hole individually. You added your score. For example, both Dan & I took a 3 so we put a 6 down for #10.
Dan & I shot a 58 the first round and a 72 the 2nd round for a total of 130. We played decent the first round but could not get much going the 2nd round. We finished 4 back of the leader.
Dr Dye & I shot a -10 the first round, then erased a large portion of that during the second round to finish -3 for the day to end up in a massive 4 way tie for 8th place.
Hole 10 the second round was stupid.
Quote
Hole 10 the second round was stupid.
That does sound goofy, but maybe the rationale was that it gave everybody a shot at an ace, since #10 and maybe #11 seemed to be the only reasonable ace run holes.
You apparently hit yours the first round. :P
No, I think there were many other more aceable holes than #10... there were so many short, straight, >/=250' holes yesterday.
Dunno if 11 could be considered an ace run either, unless you're talking about 11A-C. 11's the big downhill.
Yes, mine was first round & according to the spotters it went off 4 branches and two trees before settling into the basket. I'm not complaining though! :)
Damon,
The course was much shorter yestarday. They moved all the alternates to really short.
Team Kielar/Correa placed 5th in Intermediate. We shot a -9 in best shot and +2 in alternate putting us at -7 for the day. Many missed birdie putts in round 1. I was still pleased with the outcome. I'm sure Brian's back is a little sore today from carrying me most of the day...but that's partner golf ;) I don't remember what the winners were at but I think it was around -15. Kevin Lenth and Shawn Comstack placed third.
Overall I had a great time. This was my first time at this event. I think we were in the minority as it came to payouts. We didn't have to share our spot with anyone. There was a three way (or two way) tie below us. According to the sticker on the jacket that we won, it was retailed at $135.00. Along with the CFR disc and another we would have tallied our prizes at almost $170...for 5th place!. Guys who tied definitely got screwed in prize payouts.
Brian and I played with Mike Clark and Jason the first round. Always a pleasure playing with Mike. Keep up the good work, you're really playing well.
Who won the baskets? and Advanced?
terry miller won the basket on saturday. I don't recall who won it yesterday.
I didn't recognize the Advanced winners. It should have been Fallon/Shaub.

right, but I came pretty close to #11 when we were out there a few weeks ago, and if I can do it.... ;)
anyhow, didn't come close to it on Sat.
Chris Bunke & Brad Nugabauer won advanced. They came thru down the stretch to win. We were tied with them going into hole 16. They birdied 16, 18, & 1 to end the round & for the win.
There were points during the first round when you totally carried me
QuoteI'm sure Brian's back is a little sore today from carrying me most of the day
This was my first Big Chill played and I definitely had fun. The tee pads were nicely shoveled and salted and the weather was perfect. There was some good competition out there too which always makes things fun. Brett was fun to play with as a partner. He got in a zone for about a 4 or 5 hole stretch both rounds where everything was near parked. I'm sure we both would have liked to have won, but things didn't work out. I had some shankages on short putts in the 1st round, 1 of which cost us a stroke. Man I can't wait for the spring so I can play every day and start improving again, cuz there was definitely some frustration building up not being able to execute shots that normally are easy in July. I'm sure everybody who played experienced that feeling as well.
We rode up with Mike Clark and Jason Hany which made for a fun trip. Thanks for the cooking tips MF!
Quote... there was definitely some frustration building up not being able to execute shots that normally are easy in July. I'm sure everybody who played experienced that feeling as well.
Well put. Definitely felt your pain. I was more frustrated than upset (if that makes sense) because I know I should have made more putts.

Take a look at the PDGA ratings/points of the winners of the Intermediate division. They both played Advanced all of of last year except for one tourney.
I looked at this after someone had mentioned something to me at the Chill. I will no longer feel bad for playing my rating, which technically still places me in Intermediate...I will now only answer to S.F.B: Sand Fricken' Bagger.
Don't get me wrong, I'm more than happy with the whole event and our placement, but how do you play in the Intermediate division after you just played a year in Advanced and did fairly well? They would have cashed in the Advanced division on Sunday.
Just a short rant... 8)
Looking at the Advanced results is more than a little frustrating. 4 shots separates 1st through 8th. What a bottleneck. neither the best shot nor alternate shot really separated the teams very much.

Serg, I don't disagree with your sentiments, but when a tournament's unsanctioned it's pretty much a free-for-all as far as ratings go.
Personally, I think it's goofy that 'amateurs' just don't play for cash in unsanctioned tournaments anyhow, if the divisions could truly be ratings-controlled. Then again, if it's not sanctioned, how would you control it? Especially with doubles?
It goes back to the whole 'pro vs. am' argument, which is also a bit goofy. Everybody plays in their ratings-defined divisions and plays for various levels of cash, I say. (But sure, I'll play in an age-protected division when it's convenient because I can and until I can't, but that's another thread, or several...)
Hey Dan, fake your age next year! Pat & I got to play with women both rounds on Saturday!! (got spanked the first round too... wait, let me rephrase that....)
well i wouldn't have to fake my age. the cumulative just has to be 100. so for saturday next year i'll just need to find a 75 year old who can make it around 48 holes in the snow without dying!
