Not to take away from our own good doctor, but has anyone else seen this disc.

It's pretty bad ass. Only one mistake that I can see in the picture, but it's not so bad I suppose.
Remember, we'll be at UW Parkside Sunday morning. It's not posted on the web.
i've wondered the same thing. I'd think Marley's name would be registered, but according to a recent court ruling regarding Tiger Woods, you can market his likeness without be in violation with the law.
I don't do intellectual property law. I try to stay conversant.
My understanding is that so long as Dr. Dye is doing art, by which I mean, painstakingly producing a likeness using paint, pencils, dye or whatever, there is no issue with the use of someone's image or likeness. If he were to find a way to mass produce duplicate dyed images on discs, like with the colormax process, then he has to have that person's permission.
Discraft is easier to deal with on art issues. When Jon and I did the Gorgosaur disc I paid the paleo-artist for the right to use his artwork. Discraft never asked to see the release he signed.
I of course have thought about those issues as well. I am pretty sure that art is art. I havent duplicated anything exactly, just used a picture for reference. Unless I duplicate someones work and then sell it as my own, we might have a problem.
That discs is sweet!!! I was looking at the same picture he used, to do the same dye on a disc for myself. Not exactly the same, same picture though. He did a fine job. And recently found out that he does some work for Sunking discs too.
Just wondering (and since there's a lawyer hanging around here, maybe he can answer), but aren't there some copyright issues with some of these picture discs?
Especially since they're getting 'broadcast' on Ebay; I'd hate to see Dr. Dye get burned on something like this.
hey y'all...
while I am not a lawyer, I do actually have some experience in this type of situation....
I am a huge blues traveler nut, and there was a thread regarding the use of their smoking cat on tattoos or other *personal* use merch..not to be sold, and the stance was taken, or it was answered that as long as you are using the thing for personal use that we could use the logo....I also am currently trying to get the emblem of my alma mater (the clemson tiger paw) on a set of discs, and while Innova (he was a prick lemme tell ya and not at all because he wouldn't do the logo without consent from Clemson) was leery to do it without a consent form, I actually heard back from Clemson this afternoon and he gave me the consent form, saying that as long as it was for personal use, not to be sold, then I had Clemson's blessing to use the logo on my Discs...
now I know it's a little different in the Jimi Disc, because the dude IS trying to profit off it, but the stances I've found in the past is that as long as there is no profit, the use of a copyrighted symbol, logo, or emblem is acceptable....
Did that Help? Did I ramble? Sorry...
so, DR DYE...I still would like to confer with you first to do this, considering 1) I'd love to have a DR DYE set before you get all famous, and 2) Hopefully you won't ass rape me like Innova is going to do...
Peace out, see ya Sunday hopefully.
