A tournament website is now up and running. Check out www.spincup.com (http://www.spincup.com) for more information on what promises to be a great event. I hope to see you there.

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure where i'll play this weekend. It's either this touranment or the GPO in Peoria. I'll have to wait to see what kind of format Peoria has this year before I decide.

If you didn't play this tournament last year, you missed out.

If I could play either, I'd play Wham Bam.  My Wisconsin spies tell me that the Wham Bam TD shares our philosophy of sponsoring the amateurs with the amateur entry fees.

Unless, I needed a pair of $200 sunglasses!   :D

If Peoria runs a 2 day event playing 3 courses it will be a tough decision. Now I know i'll be sponsoring a pro so i'll have to live with that decision. However, if it's a 1 day event, it's a no brainer that i'll be heading North.

Definitely one of the best tournaments I played last year. Mike and his group do an awesome job with sponsorship, payout, etc. The Sussex course also gives a good mix of holes...long, short, elevation.

I might have a family reunion this day so I don't know if I'll be able to make it. Also, my brother is getting married the night before.

The event is now less than seven weeks away. Many players at last weekend's Wakanda Park Open and Tower Ridge Open told me that they will be registering for the Wham Bam Thank You Am within the next week or two. Again, the field is limited to 96 players. Each division is limited as well. Registration forms and online registration are both available at http://www.spincup.com (http://www.spincup.com). Please contact me with any questions.

Thanks,

Mike

I was thinking of going to this tournament.  I hear good things about it.  However, Mike does not have a rec division- intermediate and advanced only.  I have communicated with him and he says to play intermediate and just enjoy it.  I really don't care about where I place. Any thoughts out there or pros or cons about playing intermediate when I am a low rec player?

The biggest issue is that if rec rated players play intermediate, what is the incentive for the TD to run a rec division in the future? Of course I say this at the same time that I plan on playing intermediate this weekend!

Play for the experience. If it's any consolation and you care about player packs, last year we received two discs, a mini, and a sticker. Excellent raffle items (and a lot of them). CTP's both rounds (one winner from each foursome/fivesome). Cheap lunch ($1 burgers).

It's a really fun time at a good/challenging course. If I'm not mistaken, we played a mixed group format the first round. Advanced, intermediate and masters all played together. It was interesting seeing different groups play.

Serg was persuasive.  I think I am going.  Of course, that's five weeks in the future.  Who knows what will happen?    If anybody who lives north of me needs a ride, let me know.  It looks like the intermediates play before the Advanced, so if you are advanced I will get there a bit early for you.

Several players are registering each day and I expect more of the same. If you are planning on playing, don't wait any longer or you run the risk that your division will fill up before you register. Everyone who registers in advance will receive a players package worth over $35. Please contact me at mike@spincup.com with any questions.

22 sponsors for the event so far. All of the other tournaments I play this year combined probably won't have that many sponsors.

It's inside Uncle Joe's store.
I'll be fixing the link on Spincup for Mike tonight so that it will take you directly to the online registration page instead of the mainpage.

Another fun tournament and a huge raffle. Full field with about 100 people(about 16 of which were women) and Mike even had an interpreter for the deaf players.

Apparently the key to winning raffle prizes was to sit at our table. Between Steve, Brian, Serg, KVN, Carla/Shawn and myself I bet we won about half of the prizes.

It was an awsome day. I'll be back next year.  There was a slew of talented juniors. I played with a kid even younger than Adrain Jr. who threw pin high on a 400 ft. hole.  I won a set of Quad shocks for the first round CTP. That made the day regardless of my placement.

I almost forgot, the first 8 women to register all got JK-Aviars that were autographed and personalized to them by Juliana.

Definitely an awesome time! For the $20 I spent in raffle tickets, I won a Pro Starfire, a Nalgene water bottle...and a First Run Quarter K.

Thanks to Mike Batka and his group for putting together an awesome event...and for helping me qualify for AM Nationals!

I'd like to thank the players, sponsors and everyone else who helped make the 2005 Wham Bam Thank You Am such a huge success. Exactly 100 disc golfers participated. Milwaukee's Dave O'Keefe won the Advanced division in playoff. An ace netted Illinois' Elliot Fu $232. Thirteen women participated. Every division had more players than last year. Look for the final standings and photos from this year's event to be added to www.spincup.com by week's end. Believe or not, I'm already thinking about next year. I welcome any suggestions.

Thanks,

Mike

Not quite sure where Kyle ended up.  I tied for 9th at even for the day (yuck), ironically shooting the same score as I did a year ago for a tied-for-11th place.

Last year I was +2 and then -2.  This year I was 0 and 0.  Something like 8 or 9 deuces and 8 or 9 bogies.  *sigh*  I tell you, if I could putt, drive, and upshot, I'd have this game all figured out.  And once again got beat by a stroke by two kids half my age.  That Adriann Jr. character is starting to bug me.  ;)

During the raffle picked up Pro Beast, a sweet hole 9 DG shirt, one of them mabeline (or whatever) water bottles that I gave away...don't remember if I took anything else away with me or not.

All in all, a great time.   I'll see what I can do to be the first to pre-reg next year, too, as I will definitely be back!

I should have the event report into the PDGA within the next fews days.  They take it from there.  The results should be up at PDGA.com relatively soon.  The round ratings may take a bit longer.

If you use the on-line tools that the PDGA sends to you via e-mail, you can post results yourself and it will generate unofficial ratings.
