Reese Swinea of Fly 18 and Jon Brakel are excited to announce the first disc golf course in Chicago and the first Fly 18 course in the region. After surveying five Chicago area courses, Reese and Jon selected Edgebrook Golf Course, part of the Cook County Forest Preserve system, because of the course's location, length, features and the course management's enthusiasm for disc golf.
Fly 18 combines disc golf with existing ball golf courses bringing the amenities of ball golf to disc golfers along with championship course design and lengths that provide challenging par 4 golf to the disc golfer. The Edgebrook Disc Golf Course will have a course length in excess of 10,000 feet from the pro tees and will follow the 18 hole, par 66 ball golf course hole for hole. In fact, a disc golfer can share a cart with a ball golfing buddy and play a round together! The Chicago River and mature trees will provide a great backdrop for the first disc golf course in Chicago, plus the length and elevation changes will provide unique challenges not found on any other Chicago area course.
The Edgebrook Disc Golf course will open on Saturday, April 2nd with leagues and tournaments throughout the year.
Edgebrook 2005 Rates:
These are for 18 hole rounds.
Week Day:
Walking round - $12
Round with cart - $15
Week Day Twilight (after 2pm):
Walking round - $9
Round with cart - $12
Week End:
Walking round - $15
Round with cart - $18
Week End Twilight (after 2pm):
Walking round - $12
Round with cart - $15
So, during the week after 2pm is a great value at just 50 cents per hole! I was hoping for walking rates around $10 and we got them starting at $9---I think that's pretty good. The cart for $3 more is a good deal also--carts are fun! I don't think you're going to get onto an 11,000 foot Chicago area golf course for less than these prices.
I hope to see you out there on April 2nd!
Edgebrook Golf Course is conveniently located within 2 miles of Interstate 94. Exit I94 at Touhy Ave. West and turn left at N. Central Ave/Carpenter Rd. The course is 1.5 miles down on the right side of the road. The address is 6100 N. Central Avenue, Chicago, Illinois. For more information please contact Jon Brakel via e-mail at jonbrakel@comcast.net or via phone at (847) 670-1757.
We will be doing most of the install work on Thursday and Friday (March 31st and April 1st) and could use a couple of extra hands. If you are interested please give me a call at 847-670-1757.
Also, Reese is in need of a welder and bolt cutters if anyone can help us out please call the number above.
Thanks!
Jon
Is there a special grand opening rate? What time does the grand opening start? Does Reese need giant scissors for the ribbon cutting ceremony?
QuoteIs there a special grand opening rate? What time does the grand opening start? Does Reese need giant scissors for the ribbon cutting ceremony?
I'll try to find out the specifics on the opening tomorrow and post 'em up here tomorrow night.
So this course will be shared by all types of golfers at the same time? Won't this create longer than usual waits at holes?
QuoteSo this course will be shared by all types of golfers at the same time? Won't this create longer than usual waits at holes?
Only when the course is packed with ball golfers...which for this course is never. When the course is only half packed with ball golfers it is easy to play thru because disc golfers don't spend much time putting out. In ball golf you spend half of your time on the green.
I'm hoping to sell this the Chief to an Illini fan this weekend. Look for me at the Fly 18 opening.

We finished the design today just before the thunderstorms hit. Looks like it is going to play 10,200 feet total! There are some sweet holes playing across the Chicago river. I can't wait to play!!!
what time are people playing on saturday?
Kelsey and I will be looking for two equally matched players to split up for fair doubles teams, X and Bruce vs Y and Kelsey. Kelsey and I won't be major help except inside 250 feet. Jon and someone close to Jon's skill level would be fun.
I think the Jon was saying they were opening at 9:00 a.m. but I'd think 11 ish would be more realistic unless you want to get an earlier start.
Oh, I put up another disc over on the Jo-Jo Rip-off thread. I forgot to mention that the disc is a max weight unmarked Crystal Buzzz. It does not even have the Discraft rim stamp. It is kind of cool that way.
I'll be ready to play anytime after 9am. I'm in for playing doubles if you can find someone else that wants to play with us.
I'd love to help you guys tomorrow.... Can't wait to play it.. Jon, I'll give you a ring in the morning.
QuoteI'll be ready to play anytime after 9am. I'm in for playing doubles if you can find someone else that wants to play with us.
Damon and Mirth are both about your rating aren't they?
I'm definitely planning on being out there that morning. I think Mike Clark had said he might be able to come out as well.
hey guys.
shawn, we'd love to have your help. we are under the gun and can use any labor we can get. contact jon brakel, or call reese and I at 714.235.0100. this goes for anyone that has an extra couple of hours between now and noon on friday. the grand opening time is high noon on saturday. check back here for more details.
that being said, i have played a whole lot of courses in my life, and this is going to be fantastic. i believe that it will be the most fun course in illinois. and it is still only 5 minutes from my home. game on.
:o so cool i can't wait to play the new course. what time is everyone thinking of getting together for grand opening?
burned a day off for dental issues on tuesday
but im thinking about coming up on sat (time depends on kids soccer game -( which im inclined to miss cause of the occasion)
is there beer available at the course ? Cost ?
id be willing to buy the workers a beer or drink of their choice
Still too early to throw w/ any force- and lets face it on a fly 18 you gotta let it rip. However, I will try to stop by to support the cause.
I'm thinkin I'm gonna plan to be out there at 10AM if thats alright.
I'll be there noonish on Saturday for a round... My first since doing in my ankle on feb 27.
Of course, the trade off is that I won't be at Best Shot on Sunday, so if people have anything for me please bring it on Sat.
Jon/Spike - What do you think the the average amount of time to play a round would be? 3 hours?

should we not show up to play until noon then?
Anyone from K-town going to play this course on Sat. I am interested and wouldn't mind carpooling.

I'll be there a bit after 11; I'm up for doubles but the way my back has been lately I'm not sure I can keep up with Brice let alone Bruce.. <_< I'm going to throw a little in Lombard at noon tomorrow (I'm working in OakBrook) so I'll know better tomorrow night.
QuoteJon/Spike - What do you think the the average amount of time to play a round would be? 3 hours?
I'd plan on 3 hours. Noon is a good time because we will probably be putting finishing touches on the course Saturday morning. We had a couple of logistical problems today that slowed us down but I'm hoping that we will have a very productive work day tomorrow.
I changed the directions for the course--mapquest was wrong about the distance down Central Ave.
You can also take Interstate 90 to exit 82A which is Nagel. Turn left on Nagel and then a right on Bryn Mawr. Turn left on N. Central Ave. The course will be on the left just after crossing the Chicago River.
Wish I could get out there but I have a double header today & tomorrow. 10 games in 6 days.
Sounds like it's going to be a great time...Unfortunately I'll be in the Madison, WI area all weekend.
I'm going to try to make it tomorrow. Hopefully I can be there at about noon. I've got to run some errands in the morning and I could see them lasting most of the day. That being said, I'm still hoping to get there and shoot 100 or more. I've only been able to play a couple of times this year and my game is really off.
major waffle here at the moment
not sure of what is going on at moment

Guys, the round today was fabulous! I hope others had a good time as well. Jon & Reese, great job getting the first course inside Chicago installed.
The only criticism I would have is that the rate I paid was not what was advertised... I paid $19.19 today for 18 holes plus a cart, and according to my receipt I was charged the weekend twilight rate. According to the prices listed in the first post I was overcharged by $4.
I brought that to the attention of Reese, who is the person that gave me the rate info to post. He says the problem is that they haven't programmed a sku on the cashier yet and they were doing a normal rate and then a coupon to discount. Reese and the manager are going to work out the rates according to what Reese and the management company negotiated and they will e-mail me what they are. Reese says to expect them to be what I have posted. If anyone was overcharged I'll try to get you a free cart for next time or the money off---but understand that I don't have a financial interest in Fly 18 or the golf course, I was just an interested volunteer, so I don't have much say in what happens with the rates. I'll post here as soon as I know what the deal was.
I had a great time out there today and my arm is dead, thank you guys for a long course.
Yesterday I shot a 78, Kelsey shot an 82 and Mirth got added to Kelsey's "list". :D
I'm very tired and a little sore today. Thanks to everyone who came out for the first round of disc golf played out there. Many, many thanks to everyone who helped on the course--especially to Adrian Sr., Adrian Jr. and Mike Clark. The three of them are responsible for every basket being in the ground out there. Nick F. cut every Fly pad for the course plus a bunch extra and he was patient enough to wait around to do it!
Jon, one question for you or possibly Reese.... Are the rates pre tax or post tax prices?
Had a pretty good time playing this course yesterday other than the fact that it was as cold as hell out there for the last 9 holes. Its a nice long course which will give people a chance to throw long quite a bit. I would definitely recommend that all disc golfers in this area at least give it a chance.
QuoteJon, one question for you or possibly Reese.... Are the rates pre tax or post tax prices?
I would think that they are pre-tax but I'll find out the next time I'm out at the course.
to play with a cart yesterday i payed $19.13
I talked to Reese on the phone today. He said they had just finished cutting the sod for all the amateur tee pads and were about to fill them with stone. He did a little bit of tweeking on the course on Sunday although I don't know what all he changed. We post poned our meeting until Tuesday so he could take advantage of the weather, so I won't know about entry fees until later in the week.
Reese finished the work on the course today. The amateur tee locations look fabulous! For those that were scared off by the distance, you should come out now and try the amateur tee pad locations. All the Fly 18 pads have been installed very professionally and they look great! For the opener they were staked down to the grass. Reese had a sod cutter out there this week and cut the sod out, then he put down a layer of stone and tamped it down firm, then the Fly Pad was staked over that. They are great tee pads.
Thanks very much to Reese for coming out and getting the first disc golf course in Chicago installed!
I'm reposting the rates. I sat down with Reese and the course manager today at lunch and confirmed the original rates.
Edgebrook Disc Golf Course 2005 Rates:
These are for 18 hole rounds.
Week Day:
Walking round - $12
Round with cart - $15
Week Day after 2pm:
Walking round - $9
Round with cart - $12
Week End:
Walking round - $15
Round with cart - $18
Week End after 2pm:
Walking round - $12
Round with cart - $15
So, during the week after 2pm is a great value at just 50 cents per hole! I was hoping for walking rates around $10 and we got them starting at $9---I think that's pretty good. The cart for $3 more is a good deal also--carts are fun! I don't think you're going to get onto an 11,000 foot Chicago area golf course for less than these prices.
For those that were charged $4 too much on Saturday, I offer my appologies on the confusion. I also will make it up to you. We can either get together for a round and I'll get us a discount on four players with carts or if we do some coupons, I'll make sure you get a coupon. If neither of those options works for you, I'll give you $4 out of my wallet.
I'd like to get a tag round or a casual round going on Saturday at Edgebrook. Let me know if you are interested.

Last Saturday at Edgebrook someone asked me to do a particular design on a particular disc and I said I would. The disc is almost done but I don't know who asked. So, I guess I'll sell it to the person who can identify the design, mold, and color of plastic of the disc.
I'll hold it until the end of IOS #1.

David, do you want to play later in the afternoon? If you can only make it at 10am, that's ok, just checking.
I'd prefer morning but can do the afternoon. Sounds like 3 is best for Damon. If that's the time, ok with me.

in case Jon didn't get hold of David, yes, 3 pm on Sat, unless Jon hears from me (and I post again) to the contrary tonight.
Nope, can't make it at 3. I thought I was free but apparently had plans I didn't know about. Sorry. You guys should play anyway. <_<

Jon, I just left you a msg on your cell.
Sorry to propose alternative plans and then bail, but I'm not going to be able to make it today after all. My back's pretty stiff from yesterday (thought it would be better this morning but...) and I think it'd be wiser to work through it a little more rationally than attacking a long course today, esp. since I really want to play a lot on Sunday.
If this is seen early enough maybe you & David can still work out something for this morning.
OK, no problem Damon. I'm going to try to make it out there about 11am.
David and I played today at Edgebrook. We started at the wrong time...9am or 3pm would have been better. I still had a lot of fun and I think the course is more and more fun each time I play it. I can't wait for the trees and foliage to fill in with leaves! I shot a 75 today from the pro tees.
Edgebrook was in horrible condition when I last played ball golf there, I hope it's better now. They should just turn the place into a Disc Golf facility only and make the fees a lot cheaper. It was expensive back then and it looks pricey now.
I'll stick to my home course for free out in the burbs.
I have heard horror stories about what the place was like before Billy Casper management took over. From what I here it is much improved. The guys who were playing in front of David and I were very interested in what we were doing and turned out to be very nice guys also. They thought the game looked cool and they shared some of the stories of what the course used to be like before Billy Casper.
It is the best disc golf facility that I have played in Illinois. A club house with discs for sale, clean flush toilets, golf carts, snack stand (hot dogs, sandwiches, chips, beverages, etc.) and a place to sit and eat while you watch TV or watch people play on hole 1 and 18. And then there's the course...10,160 feet of it. It is a much different game when you are trying to place your second shot in the right place for a layup to get your 4 for par. Or when you have to decide to run the 330 foot approach on your second shot and land between the cart path and the river in order to get your birdie 3 or layup a 280 foot shot to take an easier approach for the par 4.
The most expensive round is a dollar per hole and that includes a cart. During the week you can get on for 50 cents per hole. I don't know of any other golf courses that you can play in the Chicago area for 50 cents per hole.
Reese told me when I started talking to him that the Fly 18 concept isn't for everyone. Some people aren't going to see the value in the ammenities and the challenge. That's OK, there are plenty of courses for you in the Chicago area then!
Disc golf will go through the same evolution as ball golf, in this regard. Some people will find that they enjoy playing the more expensive courses because they are more expensive. They won't have to deal with roving bands of elevensome chuckers, trash, broken glass, poison ivy, wild roses and creeks with no bridges.
They will get to ride in carts!!!
I need to get registration and score cards done for the IOS #1 this weekend, but I'm thinking I have time for an early morning round at Edgebrook on Saturday. Something around 8 or 9am at the latest. PM or e-mail me if you want to play a round. My Comcast hasn't been working all the time the last couple of days but it was working this morning. Call me at 847-six-seven-zero-1757 if you don't hear back from the e-mail.
Things are going well out at Edgebrook. They had about 20 rounds of disc golf played in the last week. I know that doesn't sound like much, but it is a promising start. The club house manager said that everyone who has played have been very excited about the course after they have played their round. They have had a couple of funny incidents out there. They had two ball golfers come out and play on Saturday who saw disc golfers for the first time. They came back on Sunday and bought a couple of discs at the pro shop and played a round of disc golf! They also had about 8 guys show up hauling a large cooler with 2 cases of beer inside! They did not let them out on the course with the cooler. Don't bring a cooler of beer to this course when you come out! :D
I'm going to see what night will work best to coordinate a league night there. If anyone is interested in playing league there during the week, let me know what day and time you think would be best.
Thanks for everyone's continued support with Chicago's first disc golf course!
Well, there really is no need to tote that much beer onto the course. Edgebrook is quite near Vaughan's Irish Pub at 5485 N. Northwest Highway. We could sample some of the many different beers on tap after playing a twilight weeknight league. (cheapest rates) However, F18 takes more time and we may have to start pretty early to beat the darkness. We may have to start before 5:30 and could only continue through late August before the days get too short. Tuesdays look good, but I am flexible. Ready golf, ready beer. Sounds pretty good.

I ran into a few golfers from Joliet out there on Saturday. They seemed very enthusiatic about a singles/doubles event there on the weekends. I think it going to be too hard to get enough players for a regular weekday event. What would you think about a bi-weekly alternate singels/doubles series?

Myk and I got a chance to get out and play this course after leagues today!!! What a fun course to play!!! Very long and challenging, I got plenty of practice with my roller shots today :D
Myk ended up shooting a 79(+13 to par) and I finished at 67(+1 to par)
I couldnt have been happier with a +1, carded a couple birds and took mostly pars with a couple bogies.
Fun course to play!!! I will go play again :D

67 is a really nice score from the pro tees, Joe! 79 isn't too bad either, Mike. My best so far has been a 74. The best score on opening day from the pro tees was a 70, I think.
How did you guys like hole 16? I think it is the best hole on the course. It is probably one of the tallest cliff shots in Illinois.
I'd be into a 5 pm or so weekday get-together one of these days w/ anyone interested. Weekends are pretty well shot - I'm looking at tournaments every weekend from Memorial Day through June!?
Can't make it this weekend either. Looking at practicing UWP on Sat and I have a gig Sunday.
ill be there at 1:30 saturday for doubles and ill be bringing a friend as well so count 2 more in!! id be down for a weekday round after 5 sometime next week as well. Packin my orcs and rollers right now, time for some big bombs!
can't wait 8)
I will be there Saturday as well. Damon, with advance warning, Tuesdays would work for me. As summer progresses (and soccer season ends) Wednesdays could work as well. Where's the gig on Sunday? Its gonna be a while before this course is as fun for me as it is for Joe. The D is still a huge obstacle. Gotta practices those rollers. ;)
I only tried one roller on opening day, and ended up with negative yardage on my drive! :)
If you plan the roller just right it will land right on the ball golf fairway and roll for a mile on that short grass!!!
Really, if I didnt have a roller shot, I dont think I could have pulled of a +1. I can roll about 50-75 feet farther than I can throw a disc in the air.
rollers are a great shot for courses like edgebrook. for some reason though its just not as much fun for me to watch a roller go far as it is to watch an air shot go far.

I know it won't be this Tuesday, but I'd like to get over there soon. It's only about 10 min from my house.
Yeah, Edgebrook seems tailor-made for rollers. It was way too windy for mine the only day I was out there. I had my forehand roller going pretty good at Lombard the other night, but I haven't gotten my backhand on together yet this spring.
The gig Sunday is at HotHouse. It's a fundraiser for Fred Anderson, who's kind of an icon for 'free jazz' (dumb term) in the city. Great saxophonist, wonderful guy and he's run the Velvet Lounge (south of the Loop) for about 20 yrs. They've regentrified the whole neighborhood except for his building, and it's going down any day. He needs really big $$ to relocate the club, and this concert is a small step in that direction. Don't know when or how long I'm playing - the thing is a bit disorganized - but it's for a good cause.

I agree, but if thats what it takes for me to get a par, and I cant get the par without a roller, then thats what I use.
Jon, any idea when the baskets might be back in? Thinking maybe Sunday I may play some.

Quoteare they for sure out of the ground right now?
huh?
table talk, don't mind us.
I just got off the phone with Edgebrook. I was hoping to get a round in. The back 9 baskets are gone & have been relocated to the other 9 hole course. They guy from the golf course had no idea when they would be back in the ground. He said he'd give twilight prices with those baskets gone. Reese is stupid!
OK, now I am way too intrigued about what is going on here. Could someone enlighten me on the goings on at edgebrook. What seems the case is that Reese took the baskets out to get another course going? I really don't want to speculate though. Info, please.

This does not enhance his reputation. <_<
The Chicago City Disc Golf Championship was going to be held at Edgebrook the day after the Rockford IOS. The CCDGC is the event where the state coordinator's invitation to USDGC will be awarded. If Edgebrook remains a Fly 9, the event will probably be moved. Jon did not seem inclined to start an 18-hole competition on a nine basket course in hopes that the basket fairy would show up before the thing is done.
I am posting this on behalf of Jon who is out of town for a few days. Jon did not ask me to post this. He told me about this before leaving town. It just seems to me that if I know he is out of town and might not get have time to post an announcement, someone should.
Only a few people followed the procedure for getting in on the CCDGC. If you thought you were going to crash the event, you should talk to Jon in Rockford about that.
Went out and played edgebrook today. They gave us twilight rates ($12.50 w/cart) since the back nine was missing.
Today was fun for the most part cosidering the back 9 baskets & upper assemblies were going. We played thru at least 6 groups of ball golfers & the last 5 holes took twice as long as the first 13.
The ground is very dry. The rollers were going a long way. Dan shot a 65 -1 & I shot a 63 -3. Not bad considering a few putts may have gone in that did not count when we were putting to the poles object style.
I really liked holes 3, 5, 11, & 16. I was disappointed the course was not longer. Hole 10 just baffles me. Such great elevation you can drive to the regular ball golf green. Too bad the pin is short & it's a short roc or putter shot.
Overall, fun day.
Hole 10 would have been a great risk/reward shot if Reese had put the basket behind and to the right of the green. Or maybe just to the right of the green. I think there were other missed opportunities to make it a more challenging course.
So far only 4 of us are playing the CDGC so I'll let the three of you decide what we want to do if there aren't 18 baskets out there. We could take the twilight rate and bring a skill shot or we could go play Lombard.
Barrett might like to join us if it is just us. She is thinking about it. She e-mailed me today.
brett carelessly hit a ball golfer out there today with a Valk. its ridiculousness like that that can get courses pulled!
Tom Wallce just called and told me the missing baskets at Edgebrook have been replaced. He also siad the were returned from the FLY 18 course south of Chicago and that one is without at the moment. Just FYI...
I played a round at Edgebrook last Friday with my Dad. My Dad is an avid golfer but I haven't played a round with him in 20 years since I decided that throwing the frisbee was the way I wanted to enjoy golf. We both played every hole from the regular ball golf tees. He shot a 71 and I shot (threw?) a 73. It was a close match and we were both playing to win in the normal Brakel way (my Dad used to play to win when he played Shutes and Ladders with us when we were kids). It was great to be able to play a round with him but still play my sport. It was also nice to best my last round off the "super" tees by 4 throws!
I'm coming down to Chicago from Madison, WI this week-end for the Cubs game Sat.
I was thinking of golfing at Edgebrook after the game. How late is Edgebrook open on the week-ends?
Also whats it like playing with ball golfers? I grew up right by Edgebrook and used to sneak on to play during the summer in 7th and 8th grade it would be great to play the course again.
Thanks
The only issue this time of year is having enough daylight. Edgebrook is open until late twilight. The wait on weekends can be long. As you likely know, Edgebrook is home to lousy ball golfers. They take a lot of shots and take a lot of time hacking up the course. Weekend golfers wait and wait. I have found it very frustrating playing disc golf and sitting around. However, after the game you will be there past prime time. Normally, better and fewer ball golfers are playing twilight golf. You should move faster through the course.
As long as the game doesn't go to extra innings it sounds like a fun day. Enjoy.
larry,
give me a call at 720.217.6955 if you are playing today. i live a couple of miles from edgebrook and might be able to come out and play.
Is this course still active? Would it be playable this Tues 3/20 or Weds 3/21? If not, what course near OHare would you recommend? Thanks in advance.

Give them and call and see if they are letting people play: 773.763.8320
The first hole may be under water from the swollen river but they may have the rest of the course open.
Good luck!

There are a few courses out in the Schaumburg area too, so not that far away from Ohare. I would recommend Streamwood of those options.

Have you checked Streamwood out lately? I'm curious if it's still under water...
Nah I haven't been out there since January 1 I don't think. I would guess that there is still some water out there though, the water table is pretty high out there. This past week has been good to us though for drying up a bit!
ill be heading out that way for to get a round in today ill shoot a course update when i make it home.
THANKS for the Streamwood recomendation, I made it there yesterday after working in Arlington Heights for the day. It was not
under water but rather wet. It was a good thing I travel with waterproof shoes. Forget my golf towel though. Thankfully the course was much longer than the directory indicates. With today's rain, I flew home early instead of checking Edgebrook out.
Apparently for awhile now...
Look for the first doubles event soon!
Which fly18 is better, Edgebrook next Monday late afternoon or Calumet City
Tuesday afternoon?
Is this course closed for good or have they put baskets back in?

Bakets & course are gone. Not sure if it's going to stay closed or not.
I had heard that they were going to honor their one-year provision with Fly 18 and then make a decision in the off season about the future. I think that disc golf was working fine for them but their partnership with Fly 18 was not.
I talked to the course pro last year. He said the course would be gone this year, and look to reinstall it next year. He also said that the cash that came in from disc golf was peanuts compared to the ball golf business. I got the feeling that he was doubtful about bringing it back.
They actually did fairly well from the monetary side from what Spike says, but obviously not my place to divulge numbers. He's been having some talks with the management lately so hopefully he'll be able to post some good news soon.
I got word that Edgebrook is back in the ground. Anyone know if it's true?

You're the 4th person I heard this from.
If someone has Spikes number call him. He would probably know.
I texted him a bit ago, I'll post if I hear back.
Edgebrook is officially open!
A couple of holes have been reconfigured, and no tee pads have been purchased, so the course is playing really long from the pro tees (pavement). There is some work still to be done, but at least Chicago has an 18-holer again.
Very tentatively, we want to have a (non-sanctioned) tourney, possibly on Sunday, 10 August, which would unfortunately limit the participants to those golfers not going to Worlds.
I am also looking to start a doubles league at Edgebrook again, but haven't decided on day and time. I am willing to listen to suggestions and am open to accept offers to help run leagues.
I will post soon with more details.
I would love to be in the doubles!! I live a few minutes from there. Would it be $18 every week then?
I would be availble to help w/ leagues and the doubles.
MONDAYS are the best for me, ( doubtful for everyone else though!)
Andrew,
I appreciate your offer to help. I sent you an email regarding leagues at Edgebrook, but it bounced back (out of office reply). If you notice this post, give me a shout. I want to get rolling with some Edgebrook activities ASAP
Thanks.
Spike, count me in. When do we start!? :)
Any news on the possible league at Edgebrook?
Just realized Edgebrook is only 2.5mi away from work. Are there still leagues here?
With the days getting shorter, the season coming to an end, and considering the amount of time that it takes to complete a round at Edgebrook, I don't believe that it is feasible to do leagues on Mondays (as we had hoped) for the remainder of this year. If I receive enough support/demand, I will certainly reconsider the decision. And I am always up for a bag-tag/skins/casual/heavy-duty-gambling/or whatever round in the mornings or afternoons (when I am in town). Those of you that are in the know understand that there is often some post-round 19th hole activities, often wrapping up with grilling, partying, putting, darts, pinball and poker at my place.
There are big plans in the works for next year, including a monthly singles league, weekly doubles league and a PDGA sanctioned event that I hope will attract touring pros as well as the cream of the crop of Chicagoland disc golfers.
Now for the current news: We will begin a Saturday afternoon doubles league for the rest of this season, and I'd like to start on Saturday, 13 September. It should run through Thanksgiving when the course closes for the year. Edgebrook's manager, Jim, has given us a very reasonable greens fee rate (including carts). I will create and post a flyer (in a PDF format) with the details when I get a chance sometime this weekend. It would be great if we could post the flyer at area courses to get the word out.
This course is still very much a work in progress, and we will be fine-tuning and upgrading it over time. We plan to create additional tees, multiple pin placements, and to stock the pro shop with discs, bags and other merch as well as make other improvements.
Please feel free to comment or shoot me a PM/email/phone call with any suggestions. And if you'd just like to get out and play the only 18-holer in Chicago (and ride in a cart and enjoy a golf course-quality experience), I am always looking to get in a round with friends.
Thanks again for your support, and keep watching for updates.
Spike, When you get that flyer made email it over to me and I'll get it posted at the Streamwood courses as well as Bartlett.
Sweet, looking forward to playing on some saturdays then.

Count me in Spike! I have relatives who want a course to play on in Chicago. One of them is a nephew who goes to Depaul. You have my support but wait till after September 13th because the Oswego Open is September 13th. We want you there!
PEACE

Any updates on the saturday league? Also who would it technically be run by, a club or just a few motivated individuals?
Update:
Saturday Fall League: beginning September 27th, 2008, to run through Thanksgiving. 3:00pm start time, $20 per person (which includes greens fee with cart, ace pool, CTP and End of Season party, plus occasional 19th hole parties at Spike's house.)
This is not an official club function, just something that I am running with some help from Steve Waters, Andy, Taylor and whoever else would like to be involved.
I am still working on a flyer that can be downloaded and posted at area courses. I hope to be at the Club Invitational tomorrow, so feel free to hit me up with any questions and suggestions.
Also, we plan on running a PDGA sanctioned tournament in Fall of 2009. Keep checking back for details.
Sweet!
I would like to head out there and check it out....
Jordan and I played there not too long ago shortly after the baskets were put out. Are these all from the
concrete still or are there new tees?
Is this going to be a weekly gathering?
Juan - Yes it will be weekly until the course closes for the winter.
Arok - As of now, we are shooting from the concretes (super pro tees) and playing it as a par 72. Next year we hope to install multiple sets of tee pads, at least 2 on every hole, and 3 or 4 tees on many holes. We also will have multiple pin placements as well.
Good stuff!
Look forward to it as its closer to my place than heading out to the burbs for dubs....
I wont be able to make it the 27th due to a wedding but im game after that weekend.....

Edgebrook still has not recovered from the flood 2 weeks ago (8 feet of water on the first fairway, 2 baskets washed away that have yet to be found, etc.) and will not re-open until Spring 2009. We will commence leagues upon the re-opening.
Stay tuned for 2009 details.
Thanks

Thanks for that info Spike. Can you update the PDGA course directory?
Updated on PDGA Directory.
See you at Edgebrook in Spring 2009 for Leagues, and Halloween '09 for Illinois State Doubles Championships.
Got out to Edgebrook for the fist time in a few years. Pretty disappointed with some of the basket position changes. The course acutally got a litle worse. 3 holes that come to mind are 3, 5, & 14. I think the DB5's are an upgrade from the Dr. Fred's but man they are beat up!. Hole #11 was missing. We had a good time. Was able to fend off the young guns.
