Someone sent me an e-mail the other day asking what the three best putters were. I did not get back to them because I read it when I was sifting through stuff and then could not find it.
Anyway, I think putters are highly personal and it comes down to what you feel comfortable throwing. I think the very best putter is the soft UV Challenger, and since they've quit making them I might grab the last three in my merch boxes and give them to myself for father's day.
I switched from throwing the soft UV Challenger to the Soft X Putt'r last summer for purely mercenary reasons. I had a stack of Soft X Putt'rs to sell and I wanted to be able to say, "It's the putter in MY bag!"
Anyway, I like soft for putters, even though soft warps and all. Warped is good.
Any opinions from the rest of you?
I'm thinking of using the same putter the NorthWest Suburban & Ace Race Putting Champion Dan Michler uses. It's the best putter of all time. The only negative is that is cannot take abuse of being slapped in the chains & smashed on the ground  .
Seriously, I use a 175G Putt & Approach Aviar. I've been using them for over 2 years now & love them.
aviars are definitely the most popular putters by far.
i like Rattlers :D
aviars by far are the most popular in this region. I have heard a lot of good news about the Wizard also.
Aviars are very popular. That's why Discraft sent one to their mold maker before coming out with the Challenger!
I love the XD... I dont know why. It is such a goofy, low profile disc that I have tried to convince myself to change, but I always go back. If I were to switch I would probably go to a soft wizard, or maybe a JK Aviar. I can throw both of those pretty well.
I prefer the Swirly APX for putting. I started using the Aviar then switched to the Magnet and then the Swirly APX. I am not a great putter though, so I'm probably not a good spokes-person.

they're all the same
The Swirly APX might be another discontinued model. Kelsey and Kira were talking about snapping up all my remaining Swirlies. I need to check with Discraft on that information.

My current Swirley APX has lasted about 4 years and is still going strong. I have 3 back ups. I think I have a life time supply as long as I don't lose any!
dont jinx it
aviar
xd on windy days or for about 60-100 ft out
but i also like the rattler but didnt have room in the bag for it

no they are not.
The best putter I know is the 2004 NW Suburban Putting Champion, Dan Michler!
The best putting practice technique that I know is to practice putting from the distance where you make 9 out of 10. Once you make 10 out of 10 consistently, back up to where you make 9 out of 10 again. Repeat until you can beat Dan!
jon's right about practicing the short putts alot. however he has momentarily lost his mind about all that other stuff pertaining to the NWSPC (northwest suburban putting champion)
i'd rather learn from the dude with the little sally arm who got 1st and 2nd in his first 2 tourneys this year than learn from somebody who lost to him both times.

yes, they really are
Dont forget about the JUJU :D
For me this is the best putter I have found. Aside from the contours its really looks alot like the DGA Blowfly, it has a very similiar profile and shape to the rim. I have been using aviars since I started playing, but since I have started throwing the JUJU's the aviars have left the bag.
I agree with the D-train. Those three putters are basicly the same, very little to no difference between them.
Buy a JUJU :D

no they are most definitely not.
the wizard is more stable with out a doubt.
wizard is definitely the straightest of the 3, especially the soft S. I think it feels like it has a slightly lower profile as well. They are very similar, but just different enough that I would much rather throw a wizard than an aviar.
I use a pole cat. i have not seen anyone mention that. why? is it a bad disc?
QuoteI use a pole cat. i have not seen anyone mention that. why? is it a bad disc?
I saw what a polecat is today at Cass Benton. It is a domey lid-type putter. Lid-type putters are under-rated. The Northwest Suburban Putting Champion uses a lid-type putter, a Rattler. The 2002 Michigan State Amateur Putting Champion uses a lid-type putter, an X-Putt'r. If one Innova touring pro were throwing a lid-type they'd be hot. They don't. They aren't.
It has a square lip. The other discs mentioned have a rounded lips that fit the palm of your hand better. As a result it is considered by most to be a "bad" disc.
So my order of 5 wizards from Gateway finally showed up today. Holy crap, I love this disc. My game is immediately improved. After practicing on my skillshot for a couple hours I was drilling just about everything from 35 feet or so in. I got 3 softs, a medium and a G9i. The G9i is soo much faster than the other ones, but I cant really throw it any further than the medium. All of them are dead straight, but the softs have a little more hook to them if you throw them long and without a ton of spin. How do the E Wizards fly? I would like something that is comparable to the softs but a little more durable, for upshots. I really only see myself using the G9i for low ceiling shots.
I used to love the rhyno but now i only save it for windy days. my enw favorite has got to be the titanic with steady ed on it.
