Title: Disc Order
Post by: Bruce Brakel on May 31, 2005, 02:05:46 PM
I'm ordering plastic this week.  I'll be getting everything you would expect, including Champ and DX Beasts and Orcs, Champ Firebirds, Vikings, Sidewinders, and Eagles, a few DX XDs, Gazelles, Cheetahs, Pro Starfires and more Innova hats.  Is there anything else desirable in the Pro line plastic?

I won't be ordering as much Discraft but I will be getting more Drones and 150 Flicks because those sold out, Cryztal Z Challengers, Breezes and maybe some D-Challengers or D Crushes.

Is there anything you want to add to the list?

I'm looking into Ching's dimple discs.  I've thrown the putter and it is a good disc.  I'd switch to it if I were carrying it.

I'm looking into Candy Starfires.  Those are part of a "program" and I'll see if I can get in.  If I can get them they will be $25, cash, no discounting for anybody, anywhere, anytime.  They will be for people who would like to sponsor the USWDGC in Peoria by buying a Candy Starfire.  Is there any interest in that?

if you're willing to hold a skill shot for me for an indeterminite amount of time (sometime this summer, for sure) then I'd like one in blue.

The club would likely want to get in on the Innova order. I need to do inventory later tonight first though.

I'll probably take a hat.

Can you find any more of the old Stratii, the ones w/ the 'snowflake' stamp? (6 discs in a circle, you know what I mean) The plastic was a little gummier on those and I like 'em better than the newer ones w/ the basket on it or whatever. I have a few anyhow so it's no big deal, just asking. I'll leave now.

Bruce,

Here is the guy and/or # you need for the Juju's.  Same goes for the Club if they would like to order them directly through CHING.

Todd Breiner serves as a direct agent for CHING from his warehouse facility at Lynx DGS. The CHING number is 888-818-3472, or info@chingdiscgolf.com.

I'd like 1 of the card game RIPT.

Can you check into Innova T-Shirts?

Many people asked for DX Firebirds.
Champion T-Birds
Pro Starfire seemed popular this weekend.

Are you placing a special order for those Gazelles & Cheetahs? I have not seen anyone throw those in a while.

I get requests for Gazelles and Cheetahs all the time.  No one throws them but they do ask for them.  I was goiong to get a few of each.  If the club wants to swap some Gazelles for something hotter, I'm good with that.

I will buy those for brass and then you can turn around and buy back better replacement discs.

I ordered 50 Discwings with QuarterK technology today.  If you think these will be hot, hot, hot I'll up it to 100.  They are a DX/Elite blend but are priced more like Z.

These will be hot.  I'll just get 100.

The first production run designated for the US is almost sold out.  I'm glad I quit waiting and called.

Ching's new driver is still about 4 weeks from distribution.  I'm going to do a Ching order for Rockford too.  Rockford is well timed to be a lot of players' first chance to get Discwing and new Ching.  This could be a selling point.

Ching has a low profile baseball cap similar in design to the Discraft hat with the adjustable cloth strap.  These would be 12 Brass.  Would Ching hats appeal to anyone?

I'd like to go on the record and state that the club's stock of non Gateway items got mauled last weekend.

We have one champion disc in stock, and the majority of the DX are those x-out Aviars.

Bruce, I'll get you a list of stuff to set aside & possibly send you a check ahead of IOS 4 if the order gets in soon enough.

That Discraft T looks pretty cool as does the golf, or polo if you prefer, shirt on the Discraft website.  I would fork over some green at IOS 3 for one of those.  I would also consider the Ching Mojo or JuJU or whatever they are calling their putter these days.  I know KVN swears by his and I would be likely to give it a go.

My Innova order went in today.  I got plenty of hats and some Innova Ts.  Innova Ts are 15 brass.  I got a few sets of Ript.  I did not ask the price.  I got a couple of Discatcher Mini baskets.  One is pre-ordered and the other will probably be 100 brass.  I got a few soft Pro Rhynos.  Neil said this run is not as soft as past runs but they are in a soft plastic.  I got a few Omega Soft putters, XDs, and Orions to fill special requests.  And I got all the high demand stuff.

I do not think I'm doing a Discraft order this time.  I'm out of 150 Flicks and almost out of Cryztal Challengers.  I'm fat with everything else that is popular.  I think we are doing a custom Discraft order for the Frenzy, IOS #4.

Are you the one who was asking for them at IOS #2, Lombard?  I'll set a couple aside.

The last Innova order had a lot of lighter weight discs in it so this time I asked specifically for a heavy order.

Did someone ask for 150 Firebirds?  They were on the list so I got them, but they were not on the list in my handwriting.

The merch order came in last week but I'm still waiting for an invoice.  I got everything I ordered, including a lot of hats and a fair number of Innova tees.  As soon as they start producing shorts and socks you'll be able to get all your clothes at the IOS.

The proline Rhynos are nice and floppy.  The plastic is rubbery and flexy.

I've already dyed some of the Starfires.  Check out the Jo-Jo rip-off thread for some pics.

I can now sell DGA for prices that are more like Discraft prices than Innova prices, like $12 for tournament stamped Proline [Z] discs rather than the $18 or so we'd have to charge for Innova Champion tournament stamped stuff.  Is there any interest out there in Tsunamis, Riptides and Squalls?  Of the three I know the Tsunami is a great overstable headwind driver.  I've heard good things about the Squall.

Post by: Bruce Brakel on June 15, 2005, 12:58:33 PM
The Blowfly II has a pointy nose and the Original Blowfly has a flat nose.  I would order some Blowflys if I were doing a custom order, but they don't custom stamp the Blowfly.  The Blowfly is arguably the best golf disc made for playing warmup catch.  It flies like a golf disc but catches like a rubber rimmed Orby.  It is pretty hard to get a stinger off a Blowfly when playing warm-up catch.

I will have QuarterK Discwings at Rockford.  100 are flying in next Tuesday or Wednesday and I'll try to hold back on selling 50 of them.  They may be pricy at first, but I think they will be less than Innova Champion plastic.

Whoever wanted the Pro Soft Rhynos, I sold them as soon as I got home, but I'll order more.

I'm doing an Innova order shortly.  Innova T-shirts and hats went fast so I'll get more.  And I'll get more Ript decks.

The Discwings are here!  They are all red and all have the First Run stamp on them.  I really like the feel of the grip.  The inverted bead makes them come out of your hand really smooth and flutter free.  They are a DX kind of blend but have a Pro Line kind of price, so you decide if that works for you.

Kira and I were throwing a 164 gram and it was reliably overstable for us, more so than my overstable but beat in Z-Crush.  On good throws Kira was getting it out 15 to 20 feet farther than her Flash, so I'm thinking your average advanced amateur might be able to throw this 30 feet farther than their normal drive.

I have 100 of these.  They will be 13 brass or cash.  I'm going to treat them like ordinary merch.  I thought about a lot of different ways to work you guys but then decided that you've all been too good to us for any of that.

So if you want one put in lay away with your name on it, let me know.  Post here.  I'm going to try really hard not to sell any of them to the Michigan players until after Rockford.

One Quarter K at 172g, thank you.

Serg has one and we have been testing it.  I can get about 20 feet more than my Orc, about 430ft. I would say.  However, I haven't been able to get the right height on my throws (they all are about 10 feet off the ground at the most).

Post by: Bruce Brakel on July 08, 2005, 10:36:18 AM
I'll go through this list later this weekend, and through my e-mails and pms, and start a lay-away box.  Already about 12 of them are spoken for.

Kira was having a problem with throwing it low also.  I'm thinking that probably the rounded under rim comes out of the hand cleaner resulting in less nose up force being imparted on the snap.

The one we were throwing was more overstable than the Beast or Flash, more like a Crush.

Shawn [on another thread] "I'd like to get 2 lighter ones around 168"

Post by: Bruce Brakel on July 09, 2005, 10:03:29 AM
I spent some time at the football field this morning throwing a 164 Quarter K righty, lefty, backhand and forehand.  It is definately the longest disc I have ever thrown.  It is not revolutionary longer but is significant design modification longer.  Until Discraft and Innova license or rip-off the concept, Discwing has something here.

Because I'm throwing lefty and only starting to throw righty after months of not throwing righty, I'm topping out around 300 on a perfect throw and averaging closer to 260, either way.  Righty the Quarter K went 300 every time and was always longer than the Crush, Flash and Sidewinder.  Lefty it was always one of the two longest, but I'm inconsistant lefty and every disc found a turn being the longest.

It is also overstable.  Power throwers should be able to throw these without them being flippy.  Usually a disc this overstable does not go very far for me throwing lefty.  Into the wind I flipped and burned the Sidewinder; I flipped and max S'd the Crush and Flash.  The Quarter K did not flip and it went a little further.  Power throwers can probably flip these into the wind, but they are overstable.

These are the real deal.

I'm thinking most of you except Shawn probably want them lighter than you think.

Meanwhile, while I was at work this evening, my Innova order came in.  I did a quick inventory and found everything but the Ript decks and did not realize that I missed those until I came in.  They are probably under the mini-basket.

After I did my quick inventory I notice a Coyote on top so I flipped on the floods and gave it a short throw, about 80 feet, on a straight line.  It flies a lot like a Breeze: at low speeds it holds a very straight line.  From where it landed I was 50 feet past the basket so I took a Frisbee style birdie run at the chains.  Bang!  Just like a Breeze.

If they were to make a Breeze in soft plastic it would be my go-to putter.

I thought I'd highlight some of the stuff that I will have for IOS #5.

I'll have everything generally but the following stuff in particular:

I will have some more 150 Flicks and a few 150 Talons with the IOS7 hotstamp.  I had a special order for the 150 Talons so I'm getting a few for the merch boxes.  The 150 Talon is Kelsey's choice into a headwind or for more fade.

I will have some X-Avengers with the IOS7 hotstamp and a limited number of Z-Avengers with the hotstamp.  The Z-Avenger is not available for hotstamping yet so this is kind of a special item.  How do I rate?  I never know how this stuff works.  Erich offered and I said, "Yes, of course, thank you."  Drones.  I'll have Drones.

I'll have more of the Innova cloth merch and this time I'll have some visors.  They are red or orange.  All of the Coyotes went so I'll have more.

I'll have some Innova bags.  These look medium large.  I think they will be 47 brass.  I have not downloaded the invoice yet but that weird prime number is sticking in my head.

My disc deal today was hilarious.  The guy ordered about $1400 in discs at my best wholesale price.  He only had $1100.  So I had to take some stuff back.  But he just bought a pile of Innova, Gateway and Discraft t-shirts at a going out of business sale of the last brick and motar disc golf store to go under.  So he was selling me new Innova shirts at a better price than I get from Innova and spending the money on discs.  When that ran out he was swapping me undyed discs and birdie bags for dyed discs.

I think I did really well on the deal.  At the end I had enough money to pay for the discs, and a pile of shirts and birdie bags.

I have been thinking about expanding my merch selection and I have been keeping my eyes peeled and mind open.  Yesterday I picked up a small quantity of Birdie Bags at a price where I can offer them for brass at a normal $6 retail price.

Today I happened across the tail end of a hardware store liquidation.  I picked up some hex bit screw drivers that retail for $2 at a price where I can sell them for $2 brass.  So instead of say a Wildcat and a mini for a $15 player pack you could get a Wildcat and a screwdriver!  If you throw the wildcat in the swamp, you're screwed, but hey, now you can get unscrewed using the right tool!

I was not going to order anything for the Blast because I'm merch long and cash short going into the end of the summer.  However, my number one pain-in-the-butt customer wants some Polecats, Wraiths and Starfires, so I'm going to do an Innova order.

If there is anything Innova you want, holler now.  I'm getting some Coyotes and a few of whatever else I'm out of.  Have I sold as many Ript decks as there are players wanting them?  It is a fun game.  I played it the other day in a Brakel Family Foursome and Kelsey whupped us!

Short notice.  Post quickly.

KC Pro Whippet = Yes

John at Innova says "Champion Panther, yes!"  I got four of them but I think two are presold and will never get to the Blast.  I got a few KC Pro Whippets too.

I'm not bringing everything to the Blast, but I will have Wraiths.

Brett, I got your polos.  Bring 50 Brass for two of you can pay the cash and get the Club President discount.

I am going to get another pile of Pro Wraiths for IOS #7 and I'll freshen up my Innova stock.  If there is no outcry for Discraft, I'm going into the last one Discraft-lite.  This could be your last chance to get a special order in this year.  Ordering on Monday...

Post by: Bruce Brakel on September 21, 2005, 07:08:01 PM
I don't think I have any of those clear Orcs left but I'll check with the factory on Monday.

I met Jimmy's boy Adam in a parking lot and we did a Golo deal.  They want to talk about a bigger deal.  They have a thing with the PGA where the PGA pays them money to go to tournaments to provide evening games and entertainment for the people at the banquet.  I told him we did not have that kind of operation.  Same number of players but divide the number of spectators by 1000 and subtract ten.  Adam said that they still might be able to figure out something that would work for them and work for us.  Adam wants me to meet Jimmy.  Adam mentioned sponsorship for our series before I said a word.  I'll go to the meeting with Jimmy and listen.

Meeting Adam was funny.  He forgot to tell me what he looked like.  I forgot to tell him what i looked like.  We were meeting at an expensive athletic club and conference facility.  I was wearing my suit and tie.  I was walking up to the building and a guy comes walking up quickly, "Good.  You're finally here!  You're here on the Windemere presentation, right?"  "No, I'm here for the Golo meeting."  "The Golo meeting?!"  "It came up kind of sudden.  We aren't on your list."  So I walk a little further and the parking valet comes up to me.  He's dressed nicer than I am.  "Are you Tommy?" he asks.  "No.  I'm Bruce.  So I'm guessing you aren't the Golo guy?"  "No, I'm the parking lot attendant.  Who's the Golo guy?"  "I'm supposed to meet the Golo guy here so is it o.k if I sit down and chill out."  "No problem.  What do you got going on?"  "I sell frisbees.  He sells games.  I'm expanding my product line."  "Cool."  When Adam arrived he was wearing a Golo polo.

Brett they have this really cool Golo board made of thick stained wood and it has a leather surface for the dice.  They put a trophy tag on it for Golo tournaments and award it to the winner.  Really cool and you could use it for any dice game.  Kind of an elegant coffee table item.

Someone was asking about this on the PDGA forums.  Dave Dunipace said that whether it is clear or not is just a result of which coloring or weighting agent was used.  What is gonna make it overstable or not is wether it is harder plastic or the gummier stuff.  In my experience more of the clear ones tend to be hard and more of the opaque ones tend to be gummier and a little more floppy.  I throw a clear champion orc and its very hard compared to some of the ones i see people throwing.

This month's Innova shipment is in.  I got the requested Bulldogs and Goblins.  I got a big pile of T-Rexes.  If the hot is off this disc, I've got a one-year supply!  Champ Eagles were on the request list and I have those.  Lots of hats and shirts too.

The Discraft I get next week.  Just a reminder: the "Throw Discraft" $10 player pack option at IOS #2 is a tournament stamped Surge and a stock stamped Pro D disc of your choice.  We will have a limit of 25 of those each day, the first 25 to ask for it.

If they sell I'll have more of them at IOS #3.  If they don't sell, I'll bring back the same ones!

I was throwing one in the backyards on the open diagonal where I have some room to throw.  They were not as understable as I was expecting.  They were being billed as a small diameter Coyote, but I thought it flew more like a domey Buzzz.

I was also throwing the Bulldog.  This is the best named disc I've ever thrown.  It is a stubby, fat putter.  I could throw it like a driver and it would not flip.  Very overstable for a putter.
Title: Re: Disc Order
Post by: Bruce Brakel on May 12, 2006, 11:57:49 AM
I picked up the Discraft today.  Not only did I get some free stuff, they gave me a credit for an overpayment on a previous bill that accounting found when they were doing their audit and they gave me some more free stuff I was not expecting.  They ran out of the cheap minis I normally get so they substituted some of those cool SuperColor minis for the same price.  They gave me a box of Discraft pencils, and they gave me the free part of the Throw Discraft optional player pack.

Have I mentioned that before, the Throw Discraft optional player pack?  You can have the regular 15 Brass player pack OR a tournament stamped ESP Surge and a Pro D stock stamped disc of your choice.  If you pre-reg for the tournament, shoot me an e-mail and pre-reg for the Throw Discraft player pack if you want one.  Limit 25 each day.

They ghost-stamped the GT Bangers because of technical difficulties in hot stamping with the groovy lid.  Ghost stamps cost more but they charged me the same, which was free hotstamping!  This is a much better disc than the proto I threw back in October.  The groove is not nearly as deep.  The grip is not funky at all.  I threw one in the Discraft practice field and these are really straight flyers.  I think I've just found a disc I want in my bag.  Some one is heading back to the back-up box in the garage.

I've got to dye discs all weekend.  Hope it keeps raining for a few days so everyone will be hungry for disc golf next week!

If the book was published by a regular publisher, I think I'll leave book vending to Amazon.com, B. Daltons and Sun King.  If it was vanity published, who knows, maybe I could make a deal with the author, but I'd have to read it first.  One of my colleagues at work is trying to break into writing through vanity publishing his own novels.  I'm not sure how that is going for him.

I read Alan Alda's biography Wednesday night.  First book I've read in years.  Parts of it were good.  Parts of it were more revealing than he intended, which was interesting.  But I read so much at work, I don't want to read so much at home.

I'm doing inventory tonight and ordering soon, probably on Wednesday.  If there is anything special you want in Innova or Discraft, shoot me an e-mail at Bruce "at" Brasscash.com or post right here.  I'm also getting birdie bags for IOS #3.  I'm ordering a lot.  If any of our neighboring TDs are reading this, like Mike or Terry, and you want to do a combined order on birdie bags, they have good wholesale prices for large orders.  Let me know.  I could deliver at Crystal Lake IOS #3.

Things on my Innova list:
A few XDs
Whatever else is new in Star
Whatever kinds of Wraiths are generally available
Some less overstable 150 drivers, whatever they got
Innova cloth merch, Ts, polos, a few bags
Some orange DX Firebirds

The new DX does have an entirely different feel.  When they run out of the old they will start making them in whatever is their current DX plastic.  All I can get is what they are selling.

The Express is not available in ESP so that disc is probably Elite X.  It would have the texture of Star but not the durability.  I'm out of the Flip City Expresses so I was thinking of doing another 3-year supply!   ;)  I'll have some done in X and some done in Z.

The Star Stingrays will break in verrrrrry slowwwwwwly.  There are a few in the merch boxes.  You just have to look around.  I don't have any Star in my bag but it is the same as ESP.  My ESP Surge has taken so much abuse and it still flies like new.  Diana's Star 150 Valk has also taken a beating and it looks and flies like new.

The Star/ESP blend is the real deal for durability.  A few months ago I was skeptical, but after play testing the stuff, I think if you have to throw Innova, it is worth the extra couple of bucks.  If you don't have to throw Innova, Discraft is not jacking the price up on ESP, so neither will I.

I've got a 170 DX Teebird that's at least 2 yrs old. Medium blue, never thrown. $5 if you want it.

Deal.  I can get it at the next tournament, or if you play anywhere close to me on my days off (thurs and fri) I can pick it up from you.  Need a couple more for my field practice.  Am looking for brighter on the whole, though, as I like to throw them where they can't be found.

He is a bit back ordered right now but thinks it will only be two weeks before he can fill my order, so the timing sounds good.  The Brass prices will be 6 for a large and 4 for a small.  I think those were the prices I had last year when I had birdie bags from that going out of business sale, and those birdie bags went fast.

A couple of people asked about Spectras at IOS #2.  If anyone wants a Spectra for $20 real or brass, I can get them with the stock art, the USADGC art or the Marshall Street art.  If no one asks for them, I'm not getting them because I don't think they are worth $20.  Discraft is requiring that vendors stick to $20.  I looked into getting a better deal on them, but I'd have to get 50 and I cannot see how I'd ever get rid of 50, and I'd still have to price them at $20.  When Discraft wants to get real on the pricing on these, maybe I'll get some.

So I can get them, but I'm not going to get them for IOS #3 unless someone special requests them.

I want to get one of the new Revolution "Rollcage" frames for my bag.  Any chance of the club picking up revolution stuff?  I know a lot of people have the Revolution bags and these new frames are supposed to extend their life even further, and lighten them up a bit.  Ordering straight from revolution you have to pay 9 bucks shipping, which is a little ridiculous.

Innova almost has big bags in stock.  They are on a boat in Long Beach waiting for the inspector to release the shipment.   ;)

Skillshots back are in stock.  I ordered four, mixed colors.  If you want first dibs on one, let me know your first two color preferences.

Star Wraiths went incredibly fast at Peoria.  The Adrians tried to corner the market.  Ha!  They are making them incredibly fast in California so good luck with that.  I'll have a huge supply of Star Wraiths for Rockford as well as Star Monsters.  Star plastic will continue to be the most overpriced thing I sell so long as that remains Innova's pricing policy.

Too late to put in special orders, unless it is something I have in stock.

Those max weight DX Firebirds are popular.  I had a bunch at Crystal Lake for someone and another bunch at Peoria for someone.  I may have some more.  I have several that are marked 1 gram less than max, but with Innova that usually means that they are max.   :o  Anything actually maked max is usually two grams over.  I'll get out the gram scale.

Star Rhynos are not yet available to mere mortals.  Maybe one of Innova's preferred on-line vendors has some from the test run, but they are not generally available.

I have a condition similar to this woman,

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/health/womenfamily.html?in_article_id=397478&in_page_id=1799

due to a viral encephalopathy I had in 1990.  I have all the same symptoms but not nearly as severe.  I forget lots of things.  It is frustrating.

If I ever act like I have no idea who you are, and you are someone distinctive who plays a lot of our tournaments, like Joe Tomecek or Mike Krupika, it's because at that moment I have no idea who you are.  I'm looking at you thinking, "I wonder if I knew this person in a previous lifetime.  They seem vaguely familiar... ."

She probably had the same virus I had.  It is in the herpes family.  40% to 80% of the population has had it but it is asymptomatic or nearly so almost all of the time.  It is not very contagious.  It is less contagious than AIDS and spread the same way, through bodily fluid.  It is very hard to diagnose, even in active cases.  They have to take the patient's blood every two hours and watch for a certain change in a titer.  They did that with me because the CDC took an interest in my case.

I'm taking suggestions for Innova stuff to order... there's so much that you can order from them that I don't know where to start lol.  You don't have to buy anything, but if there are some items that you don't see too commonly and wish people would have them more often (maybe like a Champ Spider... you see everyone using a Roc but the Spider is a GREAT disc). that sort of thing.

I want to order at least 200, but would be nice to pick up 300+, so suggestions are welcome.

I will pick up the stuff I commonly hear... wraiths, teerex, valkyries, aviars, rocs, firebirds, those are all a given.

Just looking for input.

Scott

The Gator is a great disc that I see a lot of people carry but isnt usually stocked too well.  I also notice most people buy up the KC Rocs much faster than DX ones.
Title: Re: Disc Order
Post by: Bruce Brakel on July 31, 2006, 09:09:13 AM
I've been carrying Gators.  They are slow movers, but the people who want them are usually happy to see them.  I had both the DX and Champion at Rockford and Peoria.

Quick:  What are the popular DX Innova drivers?  Wraiths, yes?  Orcs?  Beasts?  T-Rex if available yet?  I'm ordering tomorrow.  Who wants a Discatcher Pro [lightweight] for 230 brass?  I know I had one request.  This is the last chance to get them for 230 and then I have to go up to 240.  They don't really do good wholesale pricing on baskets.  Any special orders?  Max weight Firebirds?  Camo-dyed green Stingrays for rolling in tall grass?  Anything?

I just get the Discraft I think I can sell over the next two years.  I buy individual molds in large quantities with Discraft so I can pass the savings along to our players.  Soft X-Putters are on the list.  It is time to get a two-year supply of those.

The Z-Cyclone is an excellent reliable fairway driver when you are trying to save par with a hyzer shot from short driving distance.  There is something to be said for reliably overstable slow drivers.  I have a two year supply of those now.

Short time frames here. Let me know.

I've been looking for some lighter-weight star and maybe DX wraiths.  I know Star wraiths go down to 167, and I would definitely like to get my hands on one or two of those.  DX goes all the way down to 150 class - I would like to pick one up in the mid-upper 160's also.
Title: Re: Disc Order
Post by: Bruce Brakel on July 31, 2006, 10:53:00 AM
I'll see what I can do.  I do a "mixed weight order" about one in three orders and the lighter stuff sits there.  Like right now I have nine DX Firebirds in stock, all under 170 and a similar situation with DX Rocs, DX Orcs, etc.

If I ask for a heavy order but 2 of these, 2 of those, 2 of those, etc., the kid in the back is going to say, "Screw this," and send me a mixed order of everything.

I need to do a heavy order, but I can order 150 with a heavy.  Then they send me the heavy 150s!   ::)
Title: Re: Disc Order
Post by: Mike S on July 31, 2006, 11:19:01 AM
Fair enough.  I think light DX firebirds sit because most people that throw them just want them to be meathooks that beat the wind, so why not go heavy.  I dont know anyone that throws light midranges, in any plastic.  I think you have had about 10 KC Rocs under 170 on the shelf all year, and I doubt they will go any time soon.  I havent tried the DX orc yet but if I do, it will be in the 165-170 range.  I still havent been able to get past how ridiculous the stamp looks.
Title: Re: Disc Order
Post by: Bruce Brakel on July 31, 2006, 11:59:30 AM
Jenny Fox threw the 150 DX Orc and loved the disc but said she could not throw anything that looked like that.  So I took off the hotstamp and did a logo initials dye on it.  Now we call it the JF Flyer.

I'm not sure who they have naming their discs or doing the artwork, but if you were a D&D geek in high school and college like "some people"  ;) you should looooove those discs.  They've got the Goblin, Orc, Pegasus, Beast [Minataur stamp], Dragon and Roc.  What are they still missing?  The Wyvern, the Flayer, the Bugbear, the Troll -- I think i am outing myself here!     Bring on the Fire Giant with the + 3 Hammer of Wrath!  My 11th level Ranger will kick his ass.   ;D

I think local Michigan pro, Joe Geibel, did the Valkyrie or the Archangel, but I forget which.

Title: Re: Disc Order

The DX T-Rex is still not available.  Innova is out of visors.  Still no big bags.  They have decided to withdraw their current collared shirts from the market because they are not satisfied with the quality.  They are o.k. for wearing but they are not a good material for plunging into the schule looking for an errant disc.

Is there any current demand for the 2005 Champion, Star and Special Blend Rocs unveiled at last year's USDGC?  These are expensive.  I'd have to go 50 Brass on these.  I'd make deals for cash, but even then, probably $30 cash, $35 for the glowies.  I can get them, but I'd need some pre-orders.

If you want me to bring merch baskets to IOStreamwood, shout out.  I have two Skillshots and two Discatcher Sports in stock, but they are bulky and don't always get a bus pass if I don't have pre-orders.

They are what they are, the Rocs unveiled at last year's USDGC as fundraisers for this year's USDGC.  I don't know what they look like, fly like, or smell like.  To me it always smells like the king's new clothes when they make a disc in limited quantities and then triple the price.  But one man's indecent exposure is another man's magic beans, so to speak.  ::)  If someone says they want one, and knows which kind they want, I'll get them with my next Innova order.

I need to talk to Breiner Enterprises and see what we can do with a 200 order of miscellaneous stuff.

I was not too impressed with the Lattitude stuff I saw.  The Discwing was a flash in the pan fad.  I don't think it makes economic sense to manufacture plastic in Europe and ship it to the US.

I feel like all I'm really missing is Millenium since the club has Gateway.  But if I can get 200 pricing from Breiner, it would work to get that other stuff.

I took a few throws with the Pulse today.  It is what they say it is, an overstable version of the Surge.  I did not have a decent headwind to throw it in.  The wind was blowing across the field.  It was too overstable for me to overpower.  It will go in my bag and the Venom will come out because it grips more like a Surge.

It is not a copy of the T-Rex at all.  It is its own thing.  It looks like it has a groove in the lid in some pictures, but if you look at it sideways you see that it is really a flat spot in the rim just before you get to the flight plate.  If you are gripping there, you should start by fixing your grip.

Quick merch questions:

which of the following Discraft should I order for Aurora:

ESP Surge
ESP Avenger
ESP Pulse
ESP Crush
ESP Predator
Soft APX [not Swirl, but almost as soft as Swirl]
Soft Magnet
You name it -- Discraft

I'm on a limited budget for Aurora because Streamwood did not sell out so I'm getting probably just 4 of those choices.  I'm very happy with the Streamwood attendance, but another 60 players would have put me in a "sky's the limit" place right now, but instead I'm in a limited budget situation.  If Soft Magnets are still Pro-D priced, I could get those for the Throw Discraft Player Packs if I also am low on hats and shirts, and then I'd be getting five off the list.  [It's all very complicated!]

Remember those SuperColor minis with the fractal artwork?  Are those worth 5 brass or worth being one item in a 2-item Throw Discraft Player Pack?

On the Innova side, I'm not sure what I'm doing.  With Innova's prices being what they are, I cannot do a low volume Innova order.  I guess Innova just has to deal with that.  I'll definately do a big Innova order for Fairfield.

Discraft settled the struck questions for me.  I'll get a few ESP Crushes, Avengers and Preds and a few Soft APXs ONLY IF I have special requests.  They are not available for hotstamping right now and are too pricey for me to sell a lot at the stock prices.  I'll get tourney stamped ESP Surges and ESP Pulses.

What about those Skeeters, those of you who got some?

Personally I like it. Right away when I took hold it reminded me of the DGA "Blunt" putter that my non-PDGA,non-tourney playing brother used to use before it got too beat. Very straight & the grip of it really fits nicely into the hand. If you got 10-15 of them I'd bet they all go.
Title: Re: Disc Order

about the skeeter, I threw it about 5 times and said is sucked.  Then on the 6th throw I threw it from the tee pad of 3 to the basket of 18 and sank it.  So I don't know what to think, however it does grip nice.

I wouldnt order any more than you think you'll sell at the first tournament on hype alone.  It isnt anything spectacular or really different.  Seemed pretty similar to a coyote with a different grip.  Most people arent going to put away their buzzes or rocs for it.

Are there going to be any more ESP Pulses available at Aurora?  I started throwing it a lot this week and I really like it a lot.  Its a great (fast) overstable driver and the rim isnt as wide as a Teerex so it feels better in my hand.

Yes.  Definately.  The ESP Surge and ESP Pulse are such excellent discs and I'm out of both.  I will have more for Aurora.  What division do you play?  I could do some as trophy discs for your division, if your division is not done yet.

I'm doing trophy discs for Aurora right now, having just finished the Valley View Summer League trophy discs.  I'll be watching pre-reg for the divisions that want a cool dyed trophy disc.  Many were white X-Challengers but there is a smattering of GT Buzzzes, Z-XLs, ESP Buzzzes and other stuff.  Am Masters is on an ESP Buzzz.  The rest I don't know off hand.

I will definitely be playing INT, possibly ADV also.  As long as there is at least one in the low 170's or high 160's there, thats fine.

I have a white one right now that is 169.  I'll drop it in a bag with your name on it just in case all the new ones are 170+.  I got a great drive with a Pulse today at Hudson Mills.  The best way for me to par that hole is to anhyzer out over the schule of certain bogieness and then come back to the fairway.  A Surge would just keep going right but the Pulse was great.  My partner was cursing Innova today for ruining the Monster with the new mold, and when I threw the Pulse he said, "Wow, what was that?"

I learned today, from the most reliable source imaginable, that the Gremlin is the same disc as the Ching Sniper.   ;D  Whoever was looking for a Tank or a Bomb or whatever should just figure out which disc that is in Innova and make the transition.  Every Ching disc is, was or shall be an Innova disc now that they have parted ways.

I just added 10 Torqs to my order.  The Torq is a new mid-range.  It is a little more overstable than a Buzzz and a little faster than a Buzzz.  It is not yet approved for PDGA play, but it will be as soon as the approval people get done approving it.  Mark Ellis loves the Torq.  Junior and the other 16 players from illinois all got one in their player pack yesterday.

Junior and his partner tied for first at the Tobbogan Doubles, shooting the same score as the 2006 Michigan Open Champion and the good pro he drew for a partner.  Junior could do very well at this tournament.

They announced that the next USADGC is likely to be in June rather than September.  We can do a qualifier in October or April, our choice.  Maybe May.  I'll get that clarified today or tomorrow.

Illinois had the second most players participating, 17.

I'm doing my last 2006 Innova order as soon as Kelsey and I complete the inventory.

How many people have the brass for a Pro Sport or Skillshot and want one?

I've already seen that I need Champ Orcs, Champ Beasts, Rhynos, anything else that anyone else noticed that I might overlook?  Tour bags?  Roc shirts?  I see that they found some Pumpkin Rocs in the storehouse all in the low 170s.

I would second Champ Gators, but it looks like both Innova locations do not have any champ gators in stock.  I hope they aren't planning on discontinuing that line!  My champ Gator lasted all of 3 or 4 throws before it landed too high into a tree to get it... then one day it vanished from the course.  *miss my gator*

I got the bottom stamped Rocs and Aviars and the new pumpkin stamped as well.  I got Star Orcs, DX Skeeters, and cotton Roc shirts.  I have three Innova Tour bags and two Skillshots.  I have a few First Run ESP Torqs and Crushes.  I have some new dyed stuff of my own doing.  Of course, I have about a thousand other discs too.

I did not get:
---Discatcher Sport baskets because they were out.
---Driver minis because I totally forgot about minis.
---Knit hats because I'm stupid.

I did not get a 172 Red Star Beast.  If you wanted red because it is easy to see, I'll have a red 172 Star Beast, but it originally was white!   ;D  I have someone's D-Crushes in lay away.  Now would be a good time to remind me of other lay away items.

Next year I'm going to stock Innova minis and keep them in stock because Erich tells me they are the #1 loss leader.   >:D   :o   8)  I'm also going to stock the cheap Chinese minis because I can sell those for a Brass and break even.

Hey, I have a few dyed First Run ESP Crushes left over from Byron Big D Doubles if there are any collectors out there.  These have the "First Run" stock stamp on them.  I can find out the weights if there is any interest.

Bruce,

Are Champ. Gators popular?  I use pro Gremlins for midrange forehand shots, but can no longer get them.  I think a champ gator has about the same flight pattern/stability.  Does that sound right to you?  In any case, if you stock them, I may purchase a couple from you the next time I see you (which prolly won't be until spring.  Unless you are headed to Terry's tourney at Parkside).
Title: Re: Disc Order
Post by: Bruce Brakel on November 15, 2006, 08:49:12 AM
Champ Gators are not popular anywhere that I know of.  I had a special request for them last summer so I got a few.  My impression of the Gator I threw was that it was stable and slow, but not as overstable as a Wasp.  I'm not sure if any remained after Byron.  Someone was admiring them, I remember.

I might come over for Terry's tournament.  Depends on how much work I get done between now and next Wednesday.  I'm doing Turkey Day in Saugatuck so I'll be half way there anyway.  It will hang on the weather and if anyone will take shotgun too.  So it is a really thin "might."

To whom it may concern:  The discs to Boulder were sent yesterday.  I found a right sized free box in the basement, so postage was a little less than I had estimated, so I included a jar of jam.

I'm not sure how much longer Champ Gator's will be around.  Neither location at Innova has them in stock, and both have been out of stock for quite some time.  I throw a Champ Gator as one of my main mid-ranges because I like the feel and it can give me a nice hook around a tree if I need one, but I have not thrown a pro gremlin to compare.  I would think that the gator would be a good mid-range forearm disc though.  It's fairly overstable!

They are still running them, and are running star gators now.  Dave D was talking about it on the PDGA boards.  The mold has changed a little I guess but its supposed to be just as stable.

I've been putting with the Pro D Banger GTs and they are getting nice and straight broken in.  I get better action on my putts with that thumb groove.

I really need to get an ESP Banger for upshots though. Now that the putters are broken in they are flippy for upshots.

Is there an understable Wizard?  Diana throws Wizards but they seem overstable like a Challenger.

Title: ESP Bangers
Post by: Bruce Brakel on November 27, 2006, 04:29:34 PM
I got out an ESP Banger to throw at the Cold Turkey to see if I could work it in the line up.  Man this disc is an overstable pig.  30 feet and under almost anything flies like anything else, but for upshots and short drives it really resists turning over.  It almost reminds me of the Bulldog.

Fortunately I did not throw it much at the Cold Turkey.  At Earl Brewer on Sunday and at Kensington it kept punishing me by being more overstable than I was expecting.

I'm going to throw it for short putts for awhile to see if I can season it a little.  If that does not work, I'll see if I can break it in by giving it a "special dye job."
