I'm in need of a few folks to submit designs for this year's stamp. The deadline for submissions is August 18th.

Designs can be emailed to: treasurer at discontinuum dot org any reviewable format is fine. The final design sent to Gateway will need to be a HQ vector-based file.
Design tip for those who have never done a hotstamp before - avoid large areas covered by a stamp.... The stamp may not adhere well to there & flake off.

from Yahoo's online dictionary:

Quotewid·der·shins    (widr-shinz)  or with·er·shins   (w-)

ADVERB:

In a contrary or counterclockwise direction: "The coracle whirled round, clockwise, then widdershins" (Anthony Bailey).

ETYMOLOGY:
Middle Low German weddersinnes, from Middle High German widersinnes : wider, back (from Old High German widar; see wi- in Indo-European roots) + sinnes, in the direction of (from sin, direction, from Old High German; see sent- in Indo-European roots)

How did this become the name of your tournament? Just curious.

Jim picked it, where he got it from I'm not 100% sure but it may be from his Wiccan roots.

The tournament used to be spring-ish, however we moved it last year to the last Saturday in October to coincide with the start of DST.... Widdershins, go backwards, counter clockwise, turn your clock back one hour. :)

I thought it was Widdershins, because originally the tournament had everyone play the course backwards.

I thought Jim picked it because when you throw lefty like Jim, the disc spins widdershins.  This was covered on another thread three years ago, I think.

Post by: mirth on August 15, 2005, 12:55:01 PM
Umm... I think last year's stamp was 5-6" across. Gateway wants the final design to be a vector drawing so they can resize at will.
Start with 6" and know they may shrink it down a little if need be.

Just a friendly bump. We're getting serg's design from page one stamped on the player's pack discs.

Speaking of the player's packs, we should be receiving them this week. Those of you who want to preregister may do so and receive your player's pack. Anyone who wants to buy a player's pack and have the proceeds go towards the event can as well.

Discs will be a tournament stamped Wizard and a new disc Gateway has developed that they keep referring to as the 'hybrid'.

Oh yeah, all the Wizards this year are black

QuoteDiscs will be a tournament stamped Wizard and a new disc Gateway has developed that they keep referring to as the 'hybrid'.
I was intrigued by the term "hybrid".  Is this like a Prius? I know Mirth drives one.  I've never thrown a gas/electric disc. I found the following on the Gateway message board in response to a question about the new unnamed hybrid:

Similar resistance to turn as the Blaze, faster and lower profile than the Sabre and a fade somewhere between the two. Sounds like it'll fly like a Sabre that doesn't turn and gets farther before it cuts in. I'll be getting some hopefully soon, so I'll post details then.
_________________
Team GDS 2005

The Blaze and Sabre are described as:
the numbers are speed glide turn fade
Blaze E-S 7 7 1 4 Long mid-range S-shots/hyzers Intermediate Advanced Pro
Sabre E-S 7 9 2 2 Long straight shots Turnovers/slight hyzers  All

It sounds like a Teebird with a bit more glide and turn.  Have you thrown it yet Mirth?

The merch wagon will be at Widdershins.  There is a brass payout in the amateur divisions.  Some of the Innova merch highlights include more Pumpkin Aviars and Pumpkin Rocs, more Champion Classic Rocs, the new Roadrunner, and some Proline TLs.  I'll have some Discraft Z-Avengers, some Crystal Buzzzes and some soft Challengers too.

2006 will be the last year for the current brass.  I'm going to post this a lot.  No one is going to say they did not know.

As of now, falling scorpions are not in Accuweather's 15 day long range forecast for the Widdershins.

If the forecast holds, it should be partly cloudy w/light winds. Temps in the mid upper 50s. Forecast looks good for the night round, too.

I think I had 100 reg cards coming out of IOS 6, then I made 60 more going into IOS 7 and we had 140 in attendance at IOS 7. Now if Johnny ate 8 apples and gave 4 to Sarah, how many beans were left in his pocket?

I should have about 20 registration cards in stock. How many do you want me to run?

Well,

Lets do:
15 Open
15 Women
10 Juniors
20 Adv
20 Int
35 Rec

So, that comes out to 115 total. I don't know how many you're fitting on a sheet, but if you have to increase it by a few to get even page usage thats fine.

I can even cut 'em up if I get them a couple days before the tournament....

I was looking through Marshall Street's website and came across a special of buying 5 Wizards for $30. The picture of the Wizard's is what caught my attention. Take a look at the black disc (http://www.marshallstreetdiscgolf.com/proddetail.asp?prod=wizard_5).

Mirth: Is this the Widdershins stamped disc?

The resolution is such that I can't read the writing.  If its too big the picture is too degraded.  But that sure looks like the Widdershins stamp.  I have one in my practice basket.  If you look at the writing on the top it sure looks like it says DISContinuum at the top. You will note its next to a Bonarroo Wizard.  Did they print up some concert discs?

There will be a couple minor changes to the usual tournament layout on Saturday.

Turns out WPD recently resodded the base lines & infield in the ball diamond, so F's basket will be where G's tee is on the map, and G's tee will be more like left center field instead of center to right center field. Drop zone will be in the same place, and while the infield won't be declared a stroke OB you will be strongly encouraged to avoid it to your best ability.

Cleaned up 4 bags of trash from the woods this afternoon. Course looks great!

I will be out tomorrow afternoon after 2:30 putting out tee flags & marking basket locations/tee lines if anyone wants to preregister or come play the course.

Post by: mirth on October 28, 2005, 07:30:42 PM
Course is all set up! All we need are the temp baskets in their locations & people to throw at them.

Weather.com says tomorrow will have highs in the low 60s w/SSW winds 10-15MPH.

Night forecast has lows around 40 w/SSW winds 1-5MPH. The moon sets tomorrow afternoon at 4:23PM. It will be *dark* in the park.

Mine just cracked, too. Just putting in the back yard, either off the top of the basket or off the brick wall of the house. Neither with a heck of a lot of force, and it's about 40 degrees out.  <_<
