At Adler today a dude was selling used discs for $5.00. They fished them outta the pond at Bevier. I'm guessing he had 150+ discs.
I saw several discs I recognized but not my treasured CE Firebird or Pro Firebird. KVN, Michler, Donovan, Deardorff, Brakel, Klem, Cohn, & more.
Dr. Dye. I bought one of your dyed CE Eagles for $5.00. He would not give it to me. I saw a bunch of discs with names but that CE Eagle I figured you wouldn't mind buying back for $5.00.
i've got at least 5 that went in there. all mine were sold by the time i got there.
i'll be watching for kids throwing orcs with my name on them at adler now.

I'll buy back my blue ace disc for $10 if someone picks it up from the pond dude for $5.

Was it a blue comet?
No. It was a driver. Don't remember if it was a Wildcat, Crush or something else. But it has the ace hole written on the back.
Anything I threw in there I have long since abandoned. Don't anyone spend $5 to rescue any of my lost plastic.
The funny thing about pond dippers is that they usually have no idea what they are selling. A CE USDGC Roc to them is the same thing as a Z-Wasp.
Maybe when the hot weather comes back I'll head on over to Riverbends...
so the park district is cool with pond dwellers ?
Quoteso the park district is cool with pond dwellers ?
Isn't everyone ok with the pond people? They are bottom feeders but they are recovering discs no one was ever going to be able to throw again. I prefer the pond people who will sell back a disc with the owner's name to the owner for a buck or two...but whatever. They did all the work to get them out of the pond.
Jon
I'm with you. Pond Boy was willing to swim or dive or whatever into the muck to retrieve lost plastic. Its not like finding it in the woods and taking it home. He went in there, good for him. He deserves to make a couple of bucks much like the ball golf divers. There are guys who dive the ponds and sell balls cheap. Being an even worse balll golfer than disc golfer (hard to believe?) I buy the cheap balls when I play. No need to spend big $ to hit a ball to the pond, forest or other Gods. He likely has a couple of discs that I used to throw. Champion Orc that went waaaaaaay over during the windyshins and a couple others. If he comes around I might by one or more back. I think he should come by on Sundays.
I don't think I would buy somebody else's disc but would buy back my own. Of course, if he had a champion roc for $5, I just might...get it back to the original owner.
I once played a tournament at Riverside [Grand Rapids] and the pond divers were in the pond during the tournament. It made it a lot easier psychologically to go for it. If your disc went in they'd go find it and ask if you wanted it back for a dollar. If you did not give up a dollar, they'd say, "O.k., well, when you want it, it's right here!"
Some players were pretty pissed off about that. I thought it was a fair price for the service they were providing.
This may be off the subject but here goes any way.
I think that once I have given up on a lost disc it belongs to the person that finds it. If they return it to me I will give them a couple of bucks for it but they are under no obligation to return the disc. I would never think of going up to someone and demanding my lost disc back. I gave up looking for the disc so it belongs to the finder.
Just for the record, I do try to return any disc if find with a name and phone number on them. Well, except for a certain 10x eagle with sf on the front. What hell does sf mean?

I'll give you $5 for it :D Will you be at leagues this weekend?? If so I will get it from you then ;) What does the design look like, I cant remember losing a dyed CE Eagle in the pond there.
maybe Myk or somebody else lost it....

I'm almost positive I was with you when you lost one there. Or maybe you told me about it. You said something like you weren't going to bring out any more CE's becasue that was the second you lost in a short time.

it was like light yellowish and orangish and looked kind of swirly
Pat, the "SF" stands for Super Fly, not Shawn Fallon.
Shawn hates those 10x Eagles anyway. :)

That service is worth at least a dollar. I know at Streamwood I'd pay $5 for someone to retrieve my discs from the reeds. I've gotten so many nasty bug bites in there this year it's cost me more in doctor co-pays than it would have to give someone $5 to go get the disc. If nothing else, it's definitely worth the piece of mind, like you said, to be able to just go for it. I still think the name on a disc thing is a courtesy. I always return, no matter what, if I find someone's disc and I have had a disc returned to me. If I give up on a disc though, I really don't ever expect a call back. If you are lucky enough to have found it, it's all yours. There is an Iowa Worlds Super Roc I lost in the woods at Streamwood I'd be willing to pay for to get back if anyone ever finds it.

I guess I will just have to wait and see.
There were some kids dredging the pond for 'frisbees' at Lombard today. They found about 6, most nearly new, none with names, nothing particularly special.
(No sign of my beloved orange z-talon :( )
Except for one, that looked to have been in there a looong time, and the name and most of the stamp had been eaten away. But you could still tell it was a nearly-clear CE Valk. Couldn't tell the weight, although it felt light and the plastic felt wobbly. (can't imagine what that water does to flesh.... :P )
I offered them $5 for it, but one of the 'girlfriends' tagging along was crushed since she wanted to "paint" it. <_<
Thought about $10, then decided not to. Oh well. Probably could have resold it for $20 once I got rid of the smell.... :P
Jojo, Will you be at Streamwood this weekend? I just got back from vacation.
This is the eagle that I have.
