I was wondering what kind of shoes everyone uses for DG. I have been looking a new pair, and I am unsure of what to get. Maybe running shoes.
What do you wear on the course? Why?
We need to call Nike, or some major shoe company, and get them to do some field studies, so they can get on board with the growing of the sport. A shoe designed for DG. How cool would that be!
In spring -] weather I usually just wear whatever hikers are my everyday shoe. If its wet out or winter then I'll wear my combat boots.
Real cold/snowy conditions call for my snowboard boots.

This new line of Nice ACG (All Condition Gear) is great. I've e-mailed Nike a few time trying them to make some disc golf stuff out.
I'll second the Nike ACG. I've had many pairs of them in the last 10 or so years & they last forever. The boots I'm currently wearing are just starting to show some scuffs on the exterior & they're a year old last April. Waterproof from the factory, my feet have never got wet in them except for once during Wednesday league when it was pouring cats & dogs out.
Nike Crosstrainers. Great feel, superb support.
But mine are just 5 months old and showing major wear/damage.
Below is the link of the shoe I have. I hate high top shoes or boots. I like this pair because they keep my feet dry on the dewey morings. I think they have great traction for all conditions.

I also picked up a similar pair of shoes but they are not waterproof. Got them on clearance @ Sports Authority. This is not the exact pair, but pretty close. This is also a great shoe.

I prefer gortex cross training shoes for early morning or wet weather. Anything with an aggressive sole, flat soles will stick to the concrete to well, which is bad for your knees. I like to have a little spin on the follow threw, so less contact with a aggressive sole will have less strain on my knee.
If I know I am going to be playing on cement tees(dry btw) I wear a pair of skates shoes, since their lite. If it's wet out or no cement tees, I use a pair of nike gortex hikers to help keep my footing. Brett wears these too, and they are great for in in the winter, being gortex my feet stay dry as can be.
Hope that helps

For those who haven't gotten their Disc Gof World yet, check out biteshoes.com. They've got 4 models that are slated for release in August.
I can't wait to try a pair 'cause I usually go through 1-2 pairs a season due to me dragging my right toe during my forehand throw. :occasion1:
These are my shoes of choice (and it took me months of research to pick them) :

The ones I got have gore tex but they are cheaper if you don't get the gore tex. These shoes fit great and are super comfortable so my feet stay dry and happy. The bottom tread is very good and the neoprene sleeve that your foot slides into keeps sand, dirt and prickly's out of your shoe.
These are great in the fall, winter, and spring but I think I may need to get something different for summer. My feet get too hot in them during the summer.
(BTW: Brett your links didn't work for me. They just directed me to their main page)
Those are nice but dont fit my feet right. I wear North Face Ultra Gore-Tex XCR trail running shoes. Just picked up a second pair, the first ones lasted about a year before they started to leak and the soles started coming apart. Not bad.

Yeah good point, I didn't realize that this thread was revived from the dead.
I like New Balance 747 and 964 shoes. The 964 is water proof.
Anyone looking for size 10 disc golf shoes this is a great deal.
I purchased a pair of these earlier this month & they are sweet. I wish I could squeeze into a 10.

I have these North face Gortex shoes... They rock
I had like 3 pairs of salomons but they fell apart in a couple months of play.

That's interesting because I bought a pair of North Face goretex that fell apart way too soon....
:P
I avoided the Salomons after reading one review after another stating that the shoes fall apart within months (although Salomon honors the warranty each time). I got some North Face goretex shoes last fall on clearance at Nordstrom Rack and they've been great so far.
Bite
ive been breaking in the high tops slowly
cant wait for the summer to wear the sandal version
xmas gift, i think mil got the 2 pair for 90 bucks

Hmmm, I'll post a picture of these, hopefully they are not the same ones.

And these are the salomons that fell apart on me,

These too.... Great running shoe, but the bottoms came apart. I love REI, took em back and no problems.

Disc golf just tears up shoes is the bottom line. Mine usually have significant wear within 2 months. I usually just spend 40-80 bucks and wear them for a year. I had a more expensive pair of Merrel Goretex shoes that lasted 1 tournament before they had a large hole in the toe. So I do not recommend Merrel's based on that 1 experience. I don't really care about the Goretex so much anymore since I'm not playing winter golf and the semi-waterproof XCR type shoes are adequate to keep the morning dew from soaking my feet.
My best shoes have always been Nike or Adidas tennis or XCR type shoes. I have 1 pair for general everyday play, 1 old pair for super muddy conditions, and 1 pair of waterproof shoes that I save for wetter conditions only.

I agree. Although these North Face shoes have been put through hell and back and have zero tread wear
or tears. Hell Jordan and I were basically walking through water for a whole round and we were bone dry.
I did have a problem with the lip on the Merell's coming off which mad me a little upset, took those back too.
When I was at REI a few weeks ago, I picked up some Goretex gators just to try them and man, I love em.
I'll have to give the Nikes a try one of these days.
If you are playing disc golf every day your shoes are going to take a beating. Especially if you got to Highbridge, WI and play on some of the roughed up tee pads. The totally ripped out the bottom of a brand new pair of shoes.
I've worn only Nike shoes since high school. My favorite pair of disc golf shoes were the Nike Air Teocalli 3 Goretex. I wen thru 4 pair of them in 2 years. I absolutely loved them and will miss them. I wish I had bought every pair of 10.5's two years ago in Kenosha.
After wearing each pair of the Salamon this winter I am impressed. They have kept my feet dry and are comfortable. They are a little heavier than I am accustomed too. I can't wait for some warm weather to get a real feel for them.
A lot of players drag a toe when they throw off a tee. That seriously tears up shoes. I had to train myself not to toe drag because I couldn't afford the shoe bill.
I think McManus and I wear the same New Balance #. New Balance is nice for dry weather. Between snow, rain and dew, that's about 12 holes per tournament round probably.
I am a heel thrower. I plant the back left part of my sole rotating onto the toes. I wear out the back--left part of my sole on my right foot.
Its always the ball of my right foot that wears out first for me. That being said, I don't play nearly enough to justify shoes only for dg. I usually wear whatever hikers I have onhand at the moment. Winter golf is always my winter boots. Spring/Summer/Fall may see a return to combat boots now that I have some... we'll see.
I drag my toe too when I dont pay attention and that tears up the sides quick.
The solomans were really comfy as a side note, more so than the North face shoes.
New Balance has a monopoly as far as I am concerned. I have an EEE width and New Balance is the only game in town. I also have a pair of medium duty Vasque hikers. Fortunately, I have no problem with NB's quality.

That much girth has got to be a bit painful for your wife.

Well, yeah, and the wide feet too.
i use a pair of notrh face shoes and i go everywhere in them and play all kinds of disc in them, they are comfy and will last long time. there is a little tread coming off the bottom only cause the course i play made these shitty pads with like jagged ridges in them so that hurt my shoes a bit but when i play on normal pads they are a beaut.
