Title: GLOW LEAGUE
Post by: CEValkyrie on January 21, 2002, 06:28:12 PM
Just trying to get some input on starting a glow league this summer. It's never too early to plan & maybe we as a group can get this rolling instead of having Jim work his a@# off. Is there anyone interested in playing in a singles glow league? If we have enough interest-- 1. What time & day should we play? 2. What should be the format? 3. What should be the entry fee. Just trying to get some input.

Hmm... should payouts maybe be like 70/20 & 10 to the club for putting it on? Who would provide glowsticks & what would the additional cost be?

Schedule sounds good to me...

What about using Parkside? I know its a little further to go, but there will be way less light to have to deal with than @ Bevier.

If I remember correctly. Fairfield closes @ dusk... Can anyone confirm this?

As far as buying the 2" glowsticks... I'd need Buttercup to confirm this, but I'm almost certain that they can be mailordered for about $25 before shipping. I don't know this for sure, tho.

Lately, I've been buying the 2" stix from Bass Pro, of all places... Seems like the stix are popular for fishing lures. Who'da known?

Umm... they were in the tackle section, about 3 aisles off the main section.

They have/had 2 types... the super skinny ones, about the width of a toothpick (hey man... it is a toothpick) and other ones about 1/4" thick and 2-3" long. The tiny ones were 3/$3, the larger (brighter, and better IMHO) ones are 2/$1.75

Yup. sounds like we're talking about the same ones... They glow suuuper bright, 'specially the green ones, and last about 6 hours.

Before we schedule anything solid, let me get info from the park district about nighttime usage of the course. I will wait to tell them about our intentions, but I want to know what their stance is. Although it shouldn't be a big deal (especially if they do not know about our glow rounds), I know that they may have insurance & police liability issues.

I love glow disc and think it will be a good addition to our lineup of offerings.  Everything should be cool; I just want to make sure.

I will give a full report on my meeting with the WPD before Sunday.

As you can see I am very interested in a glow league. I have tested my 2" mini glow sticks & they work awesome!!!! This is why I am so pumped to play. My preference-- 1. Friday-maybe every other throughout the summer or every if there is enough interest @ 8:30. Lombard has a glow tournament every Friday & I have heard they get quite a few play. 2. Singles event with 18 holes of regular tees. 3. Fee $2.00. Winner 75% 2nd 25%. Let me know what you think

Mirth,

Those payouts sound good to me. I bought 100 glow sticks for me to use. I would be willing to sell half but would use the other half for myself. I bought the 100 for $42.00-that inclued the shipping. I would suggest $0.50 each. I'm sure I could find a better deal on the internet. Where do you get your glow sticks from Mirth? What price? What would you suggest?

Mirth,

What section did bass pro have the glow sticks. I could only find the bigger ones there. How much were they charging. Parkside would be good if Bevier does not work out.

I'll have to check it out next time i'm there. The ones I got are not like a toothpick. The are 2" long and about a 1/4 inch wide. (The women just don't get too excited over the size) They do work pretty good though. (The glow that is) Came out to be $0.42 each. Not too bad & they glow like crazy.

Anyone up for a glow round @ BEVIER? I'm up for a night of discing. Let's schedule a date.
