Title: Milwaukee Indoor Sports Complex
Post by: Dan Michler on December 02, 2005, 05:39:08 AM
I went to the Milwaukee Indoor Sports Complex Disc Night last night.  It was alot of fun.  Terry Miller runs it and its every 2 weeks on Thursdays starting last night (12/1) from 9-11pm.  It only costs 5 bucks to play.  There were several baskets set up in the open gym (an indoor soccer type surface).  The gym is very large so you can practice a variety of shots and play alot of different types of games.

I whipped Neal's ass at PIG.  Just figured I'd say that to piss him off     I guess he beat me at his retarded golf game that he made up for what thats worth.

I went twice last year - it was FUN!
Although I should have spent more time practicing my putting, the Double Disc Court was awesome, especially playing against seasoned vets like Loper and Hunkle!

Too bad the time slot is so late.
How was last night's turnout?

I'll have to make note of when it is open...  great way to get practice and a chance to wear shorts again.  Last year they had some Sprecker(sp?)  Amber for sale..  pizza, snacky treats and stuff... like cheap beer

I remember last year taking a big tear in one of my rocs from throwing it too high in the rafters...  darn ceiling..

wasn't a big fan of the DDC as the disc would slide out of bounds to easily..  good way to learn the basics though.   Hella fun outside..

i'd say there was maybe 10-15 people there last night.  6 of whom were fairfield locals including myself.  yeah, its easy to beat up dx discs in there between hitting the wall, the rafters, the goalposts, the bleachers, etc...  terry put a couple of the new Discraft Spectra's out there for us to toss back and forth.

It's Discraft's newest Ultra long range Driver. It is only available in their
supercolor. It is like a wraith with more bead on it. Never thrown it Though.

Just a reminder that indoor night is again THIS Thursday night from 9-11PM.   That's Thursday, Decemeber 15th.

We even have a sponsor on board now!  DGA has given me some of their midrange discs so that people can try them out each week.  The winner of the contest gets to take them home - pretty simple huh?

I hope a group of Illinois guys decide to come up and check out the action.  I will also have the Star Orcs, Star Sidewinders, and Star Tee Birds on Thursday night.

See you guys Thursday.

how far from amtrak station ?

From the maps, it looks like Amtrak is at least 3 miles away from Franklin.
Franklin is at the southwest corner of Milwaukee, nowhere near downtown.
If you are sure you are going to go, gimme a ring, Mikey.
Perhaps we can make some travel arrangements.

Unfortunately I'm not sure how far Amtrak is from the Sports Complex.  I know it's not within walking distance.  I think the only 2 places it stops are Downtown Milwaukee (15 minute drive back south to the complex) or in Stourtavant (SP?) which is 20 or 30 minutes short of the Complex.

The weather should stop so we should have a good turnout.  I'd LIKE to get some DDC going tomorrow night as well.  I printed out the rules so I'll know them better this year.  THen again - making up our own is always fun too.

I do have all of the latest discs in stock too.  I have the CFR Wraiths, the Tulsa Orcs, the Special Blend Tee Birds, the Spectras, and new bags and new straps and baskets.  Christmas is around the corner so feel free to do some shopping!

I hope to see a bunch of Illinois guys there!

DDC is Double Disc Court and it's a TON of fun.  It's something different and it's somewhat like volleyball but with discs.  Most people don't know that it's been around for a few decades.  Like many other sports (ie pickleball) it's very regional.

I encourage anyone to come up and check out indoor night on the 29th.  I also know that we might have a few world champion freestylers at the complex on Thursday, the 12th of January.

So ... I'll try to post on here with any and all updates as the develop.  The 29th has become pretty appealing to many because so many have a relaxed schedule.  I hope to have a good turnout.  Well, I always hope for a good turnout.  Remember - the more support we should for Milwaukee County - the better they'll be to use when 2007 Worlds rolls around.

See you guys soon.  Also - I'll be posting about a doubles event we are having in January (other than The Big Chill).

Anyone planning on coming up this Thursday night?  Should I attempt to get some DDC courts setup?

Discraft has sponsored us with some Banger GT's and I'll have to come up with a creative way to give those away via some competitive process.  Let me know if you have ideas.

Hope to see you Thursday.
