It's going to be in the 50s, sunny and dry most of the time from Christmas to New Years in Bowling Green, Kentucky. We have not had sunshine or above freezing temps in Michigan for over a week now. So we might head on down to Kentucky after Christmas to play disc golf for a couple of days and practice the BG Am Champs courses.

Nice, have you ever played those courses? Keriakes is my favorite course, out of all the ones I have played. Hobson is also a good park if its been kept up well. Lover's is good for long-arm and wind practice.
I played the Bowling Green Am Champs in 2004. I might play it this spring so I won't have to think about points for Milwaukee 2007 Worlds. We played Hobson, Keriakis, Lovers and White that year. White is like Lovers Lane but with fewer trees, even longer holes and more wind.

White park is the only one I havent played there. I have probably played all the others 6 or 7 times each. I love those courses. The best thing about them is that it feels like there is a much stronger community presence than you see at courses around here. I saw little kids, and little old ladies ripping drives there with perfect form. People there really appreciate and respect their courses.
Old ladies with perfect form: You probably saw Sylvia Voakes.

I did meet Juliana Korver while we were playing a round at Lover's. I felt like such a dork asking her to sign my Valk.
White Park is the longest of the 4 courses. It is wide open except for a couple of holes. They began planting small trees to increase the difficulty in the future. By the time you play the last round at White you are pretty tired. Pros play the dirt paths as OB (hard as hell).
Yeah. I think it is kind of lame that the pros play the paths as o.b. but the ams play them as nothing. The course is nothing unless you play the paths as o.b. The entire course is like the first four holes at Fairfield stretched out to 500-700 feet per hole once you take the path o.b. away.
We drove down to Lexington and stayed the night there. The next morning, Tuesday, we played Veterans, which is a wonderful course. It was sunny and in the 50s, but I think it would have been a wonderful course regardless. It plays in and out of woods, up and down a ravine with a clear creek running through it. There are only two holes where you might throw a disc into the creek and it looked like you could always get it back. I threw four left handed drives so I think the course has some balance. It is kind of short, but fun.
The locals at Veterans told us to skip Shillito and play "E-town" instead if we were headed on down to Bowling Green. They were very helpful in giving directions right down to telling us where to park (at the Target) and where to start (on hole 5) if the gate was locked. It was locked so we did. The course was decorated for Christmas Lights in the Park, so we played automatic two-stroke penalty if you hit an angel. They had a security camera on Baby Jesus and now the security cam guy has a good picture of Kira tickling Baby Jesus under the chin. Freeman Lake [E-town] is also a good course but there were four holes that played along the water's edge. We did not want to lose any discs so we skipped those holes and made up four others. I did not play this course well and Kelsey almost beat me straight up. Freeman Lake is park-like, like the original nine at Bevier, with lots of neatly trimmed grass and shapely cedar trees.
The next day in Bowling Green it was cloudy but still mild. Keriakas is a lot like E-town without the lake and there I got my birdies. I shot -7 which seems like a pretty good round. At Hobson Grove the wind came up and we all did much worse, but me more so.
We were playing singles with handicaps based on our pdga ratings, one stroke per ten points. Diana was the overall winner and she did not want to play competitively. Everyone won a round somewhere I think.
This was a very nice break from the miserable weather they continued to have here. Michigan weather is much more miserable than Wisconsin and Illinois because weather gets all pumped up with precipitation when it goes over the Great Lakes.
