Post by: damonshort on December 30, 2005, 03:00:56 PM
I see a bunch of stuff listed on PDGA.com  for next year but not Manitowoc. Terry, do you know what's up with that?  :(

My guess it they had to check the Farmers Almanac to find the projected hottest day of the year. Must be July 16 this year.   B)

Yes, it is just North of Milwaukee about 45 minutes north.

There are many that do not make the 4 hour drive, so at least they have another option.

It takes me about 1 hour to get there from my place @ Parkside...

Just wondering..

Are there plans on getting permanant tee pads @ Tendick?  Any changes out there to make the course better?

Damon - Thanks for pointing that out!  I will fix that!

Shawn - We have met with the Parks Dept - There will be Concrete TeePads installed over the spring/Summer.  Not sure as to how many, but we are hoping to get at least the Shorts in this year.  We will also be busting our arses to get the wooded holes cleaned up, higher ceilings, stumps, branches, logs in the way etc.  We would like to lengthen some of the holes but do not want to confuse people as to the layouts now.

We will be adding pin placements as well.  The Parks Dept has also started to make the Collars for the placements - we are hoping to have 2 or 3 pin placements on each hole.

Only Good things to come!!!!

I want to get up there sometime, but I've got a family wedding that weekend. Good luck with the tournament!

I've heard from players that attended the Tower Ridge tournament the past couple of years that the payout for this event is terrible. Kielar, didn't you play this event last year? The guy that took 2nd in intermediate said he won $17...that was in a field of almost 50.

The Mayhem has sanctioning and promotes excellent oppurtunites for prizes and raffle. Sounds like it could do pretty well.

Early May at Tendick...sounds like it could be kind of muddy!

I'm putting this one on the calendar.

Thanks Serg,

It wasnt too bad when I ran the event in 2003.  The rain held off just long enough.  We finished the final 9 for the advanced division and about 10 minutes later the skies opened up.

<SHAMELESS PLUG>We are also looking for "Dontations" for Raffles and CTP's.  So far we have a few 1st Run Quarter K's that we will be raffling off, a 2005 Memorial Disc, a 2001 Limited Edition USDGC Aviar signed by Barry Schultz and a Ching Basket.</SHAMELESS PLUG>

Entry Fee's are low and right on for what the PDGA is suggesting.  Only $4 will be deducted for the Course fund and the PDGA fund.  I think it should be a great time.  We are also looking for Sponsors for the event (Tee, ScoreCard and TITLE).

I think the "SERGIO" MAYHEM OPEN has a nice ring to it.

Tower Ridge has had bad payouts.  Last year I tied for 5th I believe and got $27 in funny money, with a full field.  I was so turned off by it that I am thinking about not playing it this year.

Bruce,

I dont really want to charge that more like $10.

I just wish that people would pre-reg for events to make it way easier on the TD - the only problem is that disc golfers don't know until the day before an event if they are going to play or not.

Our Payout will be:

40% of field Pro (CASH)
50% of field for everyone else.

$2 deduction for PDGA
$2 deduction for Course Fund

1 disc, 1 Mini for the players pack - working on TeeSign Sponsors, ScoreCard Sponsors and a Title Sponsor - lots of work to run a tournament especially when you want to do it right.

You're right, it does sound kind of nice...much better than "SERGIO BILLS NEED TO BE PAID NOW!"
Let me talk to the Parkside Disc Golf Club. We'll be meeting next week. We don't have merchandise so what type of sponsorship packages are there?

I'll see what merch I have. I'd be happy to send/bring a few things.

Thank you for informing me of the correct coding for Shameless Plugs  ;D

Serg, we have teesigns for $50, ScoreCard $100, EVENT $500.  Merchandise is treated at retail Price. (Not sure if that goes without saying, have already had people ask that though)

So, it seems that playing Tower Ridge Open & the Wakanda Park Open aren't worth the drive?

Has anyone played the Menasha &/or New London Open? (in regards to the courses, weather at that time of year, payouts, etc.) I'm thinking about playing both tourneys that weekend but don't want to make the drive if it's not worth it.

If you pre-register well in advance, the courses may be worth the drive, and then you will have forgotten about the entry fee by the time you get to awards ceremony.  That's my strategy for Bowling Green!

I heard Tower Ridge is sweet! It sure looks awesome on the course page. Check out the pictures. I'm hoping to make the trip this year.

Wakanda looks pretty fun too.

I was more meaning the payouts vs. the drive for Tower Ridge/Wakanda. I saw two posts on here stating the payout was bs.

Anyone played Menasha or New London? Just trying to decide if I want to play those two tourneys 4/8&9 or go to Davenport, IA for the River Cities Rumble.

It is worth the drive to play there...   competition is good, course layout is worth the cost, even if the payout is lacking...  and don't expect a players pack..

For the money...  and just as good or better courses, play standing rocks.

last year at Tower Ridge they claim there would be two 18 hole courses for this years event.
