Will anyone be able to beat AL G? My $$$ is on him. I'll see you probably May.

I like both the handicap and points changes, especially the points, as I think it will be fairer to everyone in the long run.
One question regarding handicaps & midwest - Lets say an Am gets bumped up to the higher pool to satisfy pairing requirements or whatever... Is the player still considered to be AM or lower for handicap purposes, or does that player assume Advanced status for the round?
Excellent!
Only 2 1/2 hours until the start of Best Shot!!!! :D
Van Master hitting it right on the nose!
How many do you think we'll have next week?
To get your password back, send me an email to mirth@rafansrule.org with what you want your password to be. I can go into the account database & change it for you... Apparently the 'Lost my Password' function is broken in this version of UltraBoard.... :(
On the subject of Jojo I think his intentions are to move up to Advanced permanently, although I don't know when that will be or if this is still true.
I wonder what place I finished in.... I keep hoping they'll put the final standings online, but everytime I go to the page nothing's changed.
Hey, whomever reads this before leagues today:
I'm at a class in Arlington Heights which should get me out by 4:30 at the latest.... If leages start a little after 5:30 I should be able to make it no problem, but just be aware that I am coming and the only thing that would keep me from being there would be some kind of emergency at home or whatnot.
In the unlikely event that something like that happens, I'd let Al or Myk know, as they both have Nextels & I have their numbers.
I am up in the Dells, and will also not be coming.... :'(
This is four consecutive weeks I haven't been at league, I hope you guys still like me...
Oh yeah... look at that.
Uh, I guess I don't really care. Are there any days the soccer players aren't scheduled to be at the park?
/drool.....
can't wait to get out of here and into the beautiful outdoors!
In fact, I think I'll leave now! :D
Well, I've enjoyed all the dry days this summer that we have had for leagues. Looks like we go out like a lion.....
Congrats go out to Al G. for sweeping 4 straight best shot leagues!
...guess we need to start breaking fingers on your right hand now if we want a chance of taking the driver's seat back.... ;-)
Everyone should know that this was debated at length by Bill, Brett, Jim, Adrian, and others. Al wasn't there, but it would be good to get his input, as well as others. I think this system will work fine and is a little more fair than last year's.
OK, here are the proposed handicap changes from Bill. We should get 'em in place by Thursday, so if anyone has opinions, now is the time to voice them!

Good with me.....
I think I soiled myself when I saw so many people showing up! How cool! It seemed like it went smoothly, without any problems. Thanks to Bill and Paul for helping organize the divisional pools!
Also, I think Bill's suggestion is fair.
These guys won't need help for long! There was more good playing than bad last night. Some newer folks showed up and threw much better than I expected. But I think my game could use a few lessons....
THANKS to EVERYONE who came out to throw!
Hey-Hey! Finally! Myk D. got an Ace on the newly moved 19th Hole (alternate 1)! 175-ft and it went in blazing! This is the first official Ace in nearly 50 weeks of league play! Myk cashed in for $38! Congrats!
Now the curse is broken, the veil is lifted, the clouds have dispersed! The way is paved for many more aces at Bevier!
Shawn, you are so modest. He won send place in the Advanced Division at Standing Rocks! Woohoo! We can start Best Shot at 5:45 next week, according to my almanac. I'll post it tomorrow. What were your winnings, buddy?
Nobody in Arlington Heights has any class . . . . .
Yes, I know that the Best Shot standings have not been updated yet. I hope to continue all the updating late tonight.
Also, I am VERY sad to say that I will not be at BS tonight. My (Waukegan) mom is being transferred to a nursing home today, and I want to be there for her. Brett, can you and Al Gutierrez take care of things tonight please? I apologize, but my family must come first today. Thanks for your help and understanding.
Next week's Best Shot falls on July 4th. I'm guessing we should reschedule it because most folks have family and/or parties that day. We can reschedule for:
Friday, July 5th
Wednesday, July 3rd
Tuesday, July 2nd
Monday, July 1st
Let me know what day you would prefer. I vote for Tuesday.
Hopefully I'll make it by 4:30! :-)
For Summer Best Shot League to break even to this point, we've needed 144 players. We've had 148. Thus far, the club has made $24 on the league. That won't even pay for prizes. Yes, the new system will be much better! Woohoo!
My predictions: this week, 10 players and a -11 will win. Next week, we'll have 8 players and a -4 will win.
And as you ALL know, I am never wrong! :-)
Thanks Brett - and THANKS for al your hard work all summer! You're really helping to boost this club!
I will fix wk 16 and you were correctto go by the 1st set of names. Rockin' dude!
Woo-Hoo!
Thanks to EVERYONE who joined us in playing Summer Best Shot League! Turnouts were OK and everyone seemed to have a good time! The race between Al & Jojo was hot at times, and we saw Brett, Brent, Chris, and others really improve over the summer.
I had a GREAT time EVERY time I played! What a cool bunch of guys! However, AL MUST BE STOPPED! If he takes 5 leagues in a row, it will surely turn into a hostile vandetta for me. I won't sleep until he takes DFL (dead f***ing last) for Autumn Leagues.
Seriously, Al was consistent, accurate, and he showed up every week. I'm really happy for him.
NEW SCORING FOR SUMMER BEST SHOT
Each player will get 1 point for showing up.
1st -] 9 points
2nd-] 7 points
3rd -] 5 points
4th -] 3 points
5th -] 1 point
6th or lower -] 0 points
The MAX score per week is now 10 points. 9 points for 1st & 1 point for showing up.
The LOW score per week is now 1 point for showing up & 0 points for finishing 6th or lower.
So 14 showed up? How did it go? What a great day. Wish I could have been there.
Congrats Myk!!! That was one sweet shot!!!!!!!!!!
70-Sunny 6-10MPH winds. It's going to be a great day for best shot. Let's have a good showing.
WOW!!!!!!!!! Jojo & Brent were @ 8 under after 9. I think they finished 12 under. Great Round. 2 newcomers as well.
1st Jojo & Brent
2nd Al & Chris
3rd Myk & Brett
4th Peter (Midwest)
Jim,
I think the best shot scores are wrong. I played last week & finished 3rd with Myk. That is correct. On June 30th 5 of us played individually. I believe it was Jim, Shawn, Brent, Al, & Me. That was the night Adrian came late. I finished 3rd so my total points should be 12. Like it matters for me but the others it might. I think the finishing order was Shawn playoff, Jim, Brett, Brent, AL. Double check.
Thanks
Brett
Here are the attendance stats after 11 weeks of best shot.
We've had 87 players in 11 weeks of play. That is an average of 7.9 per week.
I'm just throwing this out here. Is there a better day to have best shot to maximize on attendance? I don't know about you guys but i've only played 3 times now & i'm already sick of the soccer players.
Hopefully there will be a big crowd tonight. My guess is 10 for this week. There will be good scores tonight. I'm predicting 9 down wins! Winds at 6:00PM will be at 6MPH & dropping each hour. Looks like another great night for disc!
I'll be out at Bevier around 4:30 before best shot. i'm going to check how the flags are doing on the baskets & see how the orange tape is holding up. After that i'll probably throw for a while if anyone is interested in meeting me.
Going to be windy. Winds at 6:00PM will be @ 15MPH & dropping a little down to 10MPH by 8:00PM. Last week my predictions of 9 down was right on but missed attendance by 1. I predict we have 11 this week & 7 down takes the cake.
Updated stats. 148 Players over 18 Weeks. That averages out to 8.2 players per week. Just think. If we would have been collecting the $1.00 per person we would be halfway to a basket. Also, if no one hits the ace pool that give us enough for a basket. Just something to think about.
That was a SUPER SWEET ACE by JIM! Off the tree & into the #8 basket. Nice work.
Here are the points I have.
AL G.-128
JOJO-116
JIM-114
The only thing that threw me for a loop was on week 16. The names are messed up so I went by the 1st set. Al has missed 0 weeks, Jojo only 1, & Jim 3. Wow Jim- you could have been in this race if you would have showed up!
So AL G. Wins Summer Best Shot!!! Congrats AL. The battle is for 2nd between Jim & Jojo. AL has just dominated DISContinuum Leagues.
I don't know about you guys but I really thought the new scoring system worked out fine. What do you guys think.

I would suggest that even though a player was moved into the upper pool for partner selection purposes, that player still retains his/her status (Adv, Am, Nov, Jr) for paired handicap scoring and midwest handicap scoring. Thus, an Am. in the upper pool will still have an Am. handicap. Is that fair?
Here are some interesting statistics. These are Best Shot scores (after handicap) for last summer and fall combined. N=number of games.
Name Avg. N
Tim D 46 5
Adrian 46 16
Al 47 30
Beast 50 10
Brett 50 12
Jim 50 31
Bill C 50 20
Chud 50 17
Paul 50 10
Jay 51 6
Myk 51 2
Shawn 52 4
Allan 52 10
Brent 52 8
Kidd 52 3
Mark H 54 9
Angela 56 5
Joe 57 1
Adrian Jr 58 2
Sorry the spacing is screwed up. It was fine when I wrote it.
Any guesses on how many people will show up to play today?
I think we will have about 14 (possibly 30).
Quotemirth (04-12-2002 09:10 a.m.):
How many do you think we'll have next week?
That was lucky! For the record I'll say 12 for next week.
I had a thought about ties and playoffs. Maybe we can just do playoffs for the first 3 places because those have prizes (junk is a prize........really!).
Then if two teams tie for:
4th place - both teams get 2pts. plus 1 for showing (total=3), and no one gets 5th place.
5th place - both teams get 1pt plus 1pt for showing (total=2)
What do you think?
Well Brett, to put it mildly, the park was packed with people!! Suprisingly we still finished in the daylight, and no one got injured. There were also quite a few groups of non-league players out. Yesterday was the most packed I have ever seen that park, partly due to the first great day we've had in a while, and partly due to a group of folks having a party out of the back of a U-Haul.
Al dominated again! I don't know what the scores were, but when Jim e-mails them to me I will put them up on the web (Saturday night or early Sunday). Personally, I had some terrific drives, but went from a 2 to a 4 on about five holes. Someone please send me to a putting clinic!
The course was still a little muddy. We had to play #9 from the cement tee both rounds because of the mud. Some of the crew from last summer showed, and all of our favorite folks from the Navy Band as well.
There are a lot of people going to be playing Best Shot this summer, which will make for some great competition (tough competition).

A quick update on last Thursday's Best Shot since Jim was out of town.
Myk and Jojo took 1st in a playoff CTP against Adrian and Angela. Al and Jay took 3rd, while Matt and myself crapped out for 4th (and last), but hey, it's still 4th!
Anyway, a good afternoon of disc golf by everyone.
First off, for the record..............

Good with me.....

As for Jojo being an Advanced or Amateur, that's usually left up to Jim. If someone WANTS to move up (as Matt did from Junior to Amateur), they can do that no problem.
...........so actually, if Jojo was playing as an Amateur on last Thursday, then Myk and Jojo would have won 1st without the playoff CTP (because of the handicap scoring). This is what Al doesn't understand. Maybe we can all gang jump him with shaving cream, crazy string and permanent marker so that he won't forget. Just an idea.
Best Shot for Thursday 5-24-02
I wasn't there, but showed up after everyone had left. Adrian saw me as he was pulling out and was kind enough to turn around and give me the update.
Adrian, Al, and Jojo showed. They played individual with regular handicaps. Adrian came in 1st, Jojo 2nd, Al 3rd. They played fast because they were gone by 7:30.
The soccer players were out in full force. There was a baseball game going on, but it could have been a scrimmage because they weren't announcing names over the P.A. No police officer was present. If there were, I would have mentioned something about the soccer players, just so it wouldn't be brand new news to him/her.
Last week was so quiet and peaceful without them there, I forgot how great it used to be to play disc golf there. This week I dropped one right in the middle of some mothers with their kids who were with the soccer players on #3 fairway. Luckily no one got hit.
Adrian mentioned that the soccer players are not there on Fridays (probably because they have games on Saturdays). I would not mind playing the league on Fridays.
Tuesday would be good, with it being a travel weekend the turnout would probaly not be so good for anything after the 4rth. By the way anyone want to take a trip up to Mad City to play Elver and Token the weekend of the 4rth?
Thanks to all who helped me out by donating to my worthy cause of me. Rest assured that I will be back each week to help build the pool up for the next lucky/skillful individual to hit it. Who knows, it may even be me again. :D
Does anyone know if Jojo actually moved to the upper pool last week, or if he was just "filling in"?
Jojo and I will most likely be there at or around 5.
Man, sounds like I started a trend!!
Congratz Jim!
