Check out http://www.2006amworlds.org/ for the official website. Check http://www.pdga.com/documents/2006/2006invites.php for invites and waiting list.
I don't plan on going but I received my first invitation to Worlds ever (other than my 2004 invitation to be a TD). They invited 13 Am Masters from Illinois and I was #9 in points for 2005.
Anyone planning on going?
I will definately be going. My buddy lives in Tulsa, so I've got a free place to stay with the person who got me addicted to this drug called Disc Golf!
I missed getting an invite by eight points. Kind of like the PDGA's way of punishing amateurs for playing up and supporting the pro payout at a couple of tournaments, I guess. After the revolution, amateurs will get to count their pro points double toward anything where points matter! ;D
Hey Juancho! How would you like the company of another mexicano on that burn to Tulsa? I'm invited and looking forward to my first worlds. Are you bringing the family?
Anyone else thinking about going?

My dad got an invite and I put my name on the waitlist, so...... ;)
Allready signed up for this tourney. I hope I get something in the mail to make sure that I am in.
I also will be attending this tournie. Sounds like alot of fun.
Why? Are you expecting a prize for being the first to register?

Does everybody understand this is a no-payout tournament? You know, like what the advanced players would not play last year at Bevier?

I am certain that Bevier has the same draw as Worlds does. Geez, you're right, no diff. I wonder what all those advanced players who didn't cash at Bowling Green were doing wasting their time going there?
Maybe they thought it was a pretty cool tournament on a pretty cool course with pretty good competition? Maybe. Then again, maybe not. :icon_joker: Tom, why did you go?
Am Worlds is a no payout event? Wow! $100 entry fee.
WTF that is BS I want my money back
Am Worlds is being run by a pro who literally hates Ams. He thinks that the ratings cap on Rec should be 900 and that that should be the only amateur division. In his opinion, if you are over 900 you should either play pro or not play.
He has been ranting on PDGA.com for about a week. Someone associated with Tulsa Worlds needs to cut his cable and keep cutting it every day from now until July.
Well this could make it eisier for me to become AM champ by narrowing the field
What an oxymoron....running a World ametuer event that he hates.

I don't think anyone knows. It's not like they are publicizing this on their website. Kevin blurted it out on his rant thread yesterday.
a little reminder that rockford's leg of the ios falls during the am worlds. nothing is written in stone but we should have a bit of added cash and for a fraction of the efforts, time, and money spent you can come to here and have just as good a time.
Where is this rant??? I'd like to read it.

Kevin posts as PuliMon. There's a whole lot of hatin' on the ams in his posts.
I e-mailed Kevin to find out if it was a trophy only, player pack, no payout event. I'll post when I get a response.

I don't get it Bruce. I mocked you a bit in an earlier post, but it seems you are right. I never have coffee brewed by people who don't drink coffee. I don't like to walk into an ethnic resturaunt staffed by non ethnics. Why play an AM tournament, a big AM tournament, run by a guy who really has a hard on for AMs? I guess he really doesn't have a problem with me. I suck so bad he will want me to continue to play AM. However, he wants one AM division so I can get pasted by someone with a 900 or so rating. Its guys like you he is after. He can't understand why low to mid 900ish AMs are still playing advanced. I'll take a pass on Tulsa and shoot for Milwaukee (which is run by a guy like you who tries to get more AMs into the sport.) Its not a matter of payout for me. Aint gonna happen no matter where I go, its a matter of who I want to support and where I will feel welcome.
Here is the response I got.

Brett
It is NOT going to be trophy only, but there won't be anyone walking out with $1400
in merch like last year. The players pack is already worth more than the entry so I
would expect the payout to be significantly different. Honieger and The PDGA handles
the payout, we just get the players packs together.
Kev
So maybe they are going payout-lite, but they want to be cagey about it? After he referred to the amateur divisions as the Special Olympics, and after he responded that any Advanced rated players who didn't want to play open should just quit, I asked:
------------------------------------
Me:
Given all the animosity you express towards amateurs, why should any of them expect you to be running a good Am Worlds for them this summer? If I were on the fence about Am Worlds, this would definately make up my mind for me
------------------------------------
Kevin:
Bruce,
WELCOME TO TROPHY ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!! well sort of
Trust me THE AMS WILL LOVE their PLAYERS PACKS....Its already over 100% of their entry fee.
& I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST AMS!!!!!!!!
I have a problem with the current system that keeps them AMS
------------------------------------
He says over and over on the thread that he does not think amateurs should get a thing for competing except a trophy and maybe some stuff through a random drawing. That would be trophy-only sort of.
I got an e-mail today saying that I am invited to Worlds! :wav:
sweet, I am allready signed up and paid. Thats why I have to play advanced for a few more tournies. Played one course their, Mclure or something, and it was pretty sweet.
