Title: Madison Meadows Best Shot
Post by: Adam R on February 26, 2006, 10:17:32 PM
I remember seeing a sign for a best shot league at Madison Meadows.  Does anyone know when this league will be starting up this year?

Thanks,
Adam

They might be doing Saturdays in March, but I'm speculating. I think Wednesdays might start in May, maybe even April. Steve Matul has been running it for as long as I've been playing.

Registration is already over, but I did find this blurb at lombardparks.com ...

Adult Disc Golf League
An Adult Disc Golf League for ages 18 and up will be held on Tuesday, April 4-May 9. New and experienced players are invited to try this sport. Awards will be given to winners. Registration deadline is February 23. The cost is $30 for residents and $40 for others. Disc Golf meets at Madison Meadow park off Madison Street. Registration required. For more information, call the Lombard Park District at (630) 620-7322 or register online at www.lombardparks.com

I'm going to have to find out more information because I was hoping to do an intra-office league one night a week (not necessarily at Lombard only though), and while other people can feel free to play while we go out and play, I don't want to bump into another league that is hosting an event.  Actually, is it closed course when the league is going that night?

the only time we've had a course closed to casual players was when we had a tournament there. Chances are with a league you can slip in the gap between groups...

They usually begin after Daylight Savings Time in the Spring. At first they begin at 5 o'clock or so and work up to 6. The league is held on Wednesdays and has 15 people show up at the very least. Sometimes we have had over 30.

"At 2 a.m. on April 2, groggy Americans will turn their clocks forward one hour, marking the beginning of Daylight Saving Time (DST). The federal law that established "daylight time" in this country does not require any area to observe daylight saving time. But if a state chooses to observe DST, it must follow the starting and ending dates set by the law. From 1986 to 2006 this has been the first Sunday in April to the last Sunday in October, but starting in 2007, it will be observed from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November, adding about a month to daylight saving time."

so does that  mean we have to remember to set our clocks so we wake up on time during Bowling Green?  that might make things confusing.

In the spring you set your clock forward.  If you forget to set your clock, you get to the course an hour late.  If you set your clock back an hour instead of forward an hour, you might as well just start driving home when you get up and have breakfast.   :o

That ought to be interesting to see what is done for things that auto-correct your time for DST, like Microsoft Windows.  They'll probably have a patch out to auto correct starting in March, but just watch the flood of complaints they'll get when someone doesn't know how to update their computer using windows update and they have trouble updating the time!

That's good to hear that you'd still be able to sneak in while the groups are still going.  It's a great course to play.  Just wish I could play better (who hasn't said that, right? heh)

Does anyone know if the Madison Meadows league is running tomorrow (Wednesday, March 29)?  If so, what time?

Thanks,

Adam

$7. This includes the ace pool. It was my first time for doubles at Madison Meadows last night.
