Title: The Forest City FrisBrah's
Post by: whofarted on March 02, 2006, 08:26:37 AM
i am thinking about starting a new club - just something to have a fun time with for the summer - no real agenda or anything.  the first step is a cool logo - any artists out there willing to lend a hand?

i am pretty torn on that - i already have a 'heady' design with him as the focal point, but as jon pointed out, i could get in some serious doo doo if that didnt make him laugh as much as everybody else.  i do like the general wookness idea though.  my buddy with gateway said that dave would basically print anything that i gave him, so i guess wook 17 could be incorporated into the design.

I thought now-a-days the first step was to put up a website with a discussion page!   :toothy10:

i kicked the idea around last night with some folks - everybody got it and seemed to like the idea so you will see this happen sooner than later.  right now i am working on installing a new nine holer up the street from where i live and also trying to make the rockford leg of the IOS a success (fingers crossed for both).  from here on out The Forest City FrisBrahs will be the face of these operations, even if i am the only member at this time.  which brings me to the next point, for those that want to join The Forest City FrisBrahs just drop your me your e mail and you'll get a bi-weekly update on how things are going, some pictures of the nine hole park, and other random stuff.  it'll be free anf fun!  ;D

the forest city frisbrahs made the a big step today towards legitimacy - a new park has been approved and partially funded by the rockford park district.  it is a nine hole (3800' foot from the longs, 2850' from the shorts) course that has some monstor elevation changes, water hazards, and all around challenging shots.  the park is located right off a major road and visible to probably 15,000 people per day.  besides that, the park has alot of history geared towards youth so adding a disc golf course is only going to add to that.  it should be installed and ready for play by the IOS 4 so i hope that you can all check it out...

Its located on Alpine Road right off of E. State St.  If you have driven by it going south boud you'll notice a huge damn that has been painted over year after year by graduating classes of the rockford public schools.  It is a really cool park with or without disc golf - check it out next time your in town.

Here's some stuff I got from the RPD website...

Aldeen Park - 88 acres
623 North Alpine Road, Rockford

History:
Aldeen Park was named for Reuben A. Aldeen, President of Amerock Corporation and the Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners at the time of the park purchase.

On December 17, 1965, Mr. Aldeen donated $47,500 to the Rockford Park District to purchase the 88-acre property. The land was formerly called the Memorial Forest Preserve and was owned by the Winnebago County Forest Preserve District.

The park's nature trails for hikers of all ages opened May 1, 1969. The self-guided trails range from one quarter of a mile to a mile and a quarter long. The first loop of the main trail is flat, and is suitable for senior citizens, strollers, and is wheelchair accessible.

Signs posted along the trails educate hikers on subjects such as birds, plants, springs, flowers, leaves, fungus, etc. indigenous to the area. There is LOTS of wildlife in the heavily wooded park. During summer months, the Eagle Hill summer day camp is held at the park.

During a decent snow, the hills in Aldeen Park are a favorite place to sled.

The pyramid-shaped lodge is available for private rentals and is reserved through Customer Services at 987-8800.

The reservable shelter has 13 tables, 1 grill, with a capacity of 60 - 80 persons.

There are 35 picnic tables and 7 grills scattered throughout the park.

The playground equipment was removed several years ago due to current safety standards and has not been able to be replaced due to funding limitations.
