Anyone had a chance to throw the Discraft GT discs at all? They definitely have an interesting design, but don't know too much about them.
Pros? Cons? What plastics are they in?
Thanks!
Jim Kenner brought some out to the Tobbogan pulling event last fall. I remember holding one in my hands and not liking the the feel of the groove top on the underside. The people throwing them said they were a little more stable than a Buzzz but not more overstable. They also said they didn't go as far as a Buzzz. They have a Buzzz rim.
The one I held looked like D plastic. I've heard they are also out in Elite X.
The BUZZZ GT is in X plastic. The BANGER GT is in D (I believe).
I really like my BUZZZ GT. I find it to be a little less stable than a normal X-BUZZZ. They have a pretty flat top similar so the first run BUZZZ that was produced. The groove top is perfect for my thumb placement. Other's I know have tried it but the groove isn't close enough to the rim for them. I would recommend checking out one that someone has before you go and purchase online. Definitely a disc you need to hold in your hand first.
I haven't thrown the BANGER GT yet so I can't comment on that.
Well, I picked up a Buzzz-GT (177+) and a Banger-GT (167-169). So far from the feel I really like the placement of the thumb-trac. I can see perhaps some women not enjoying it because it does seem to be far into the disc, but it's right where my thumb normally ends up. I haven't had a chance to throw them yet, but one of the grips that I sometimes use for a control grip almost seems to benefit from where the thumb-trac dips down. I have index finger pointed out along rim, middle fanned out and it grips onto the far edge of the dip, and then the ring and pinky in a power grip curled under the rim. I don't know what the "official" term is for that grip that I use. If it's not too windy I'll go out and throw tomorrow. When I left work at almost 10pm tonight there was still no accumulation of snow, so there's a good chance that I'll be in good shape for tomorrow :) I also just received my first Z-Buzzz (173g, dyed) disc today with the others, so that will be interesting to see how the two differ (aside from weight). I've been throwing mainly Z-Hawks and Champ-Coyote's lately for my mid-range, so hopefully the Buzzz-GT will give me something worthwhile!
The Banger-GT definitely gives me a feel where in my mind I think I might I might have more confidence in my putts. I'm always afraid of overshooting. I own a Discatcher sport for practice, but haven't taken it out into the courtyard to try my putting outdoors.
I'll let you guys know what I find out!
Scott
Still enjoying the Banger-GT. The Buzzz-GT has helped me out on a couple hyzer shots and gave me a nice skip to the basket, but hasn't been a disc that has blown me away as much as the Banger-GT. I definitely need to pick up a couple Banger's at heavier weights to see if that's part of why some of my throws go off to no-man's land if there's some wind or if the disc just can't handle the wind. I've landed some very nice and LONG putts with the thing. It has a small amount of fade, but the flight path is a beautiful thing. I love the grip. The plastic feels great. Discraft definitely deserves some credit for making some really nice new discs lately!
