Title: Corporate Event in Barrington Hills
Post by: jim on July 23, 2002, 10:21:26 AM
On Friday, July 19th, Brett, Paul and myself went to Barrington Hills to do a disc golf demo. We were contacted by an entertainment agency (who was contracted by Kennedy Home Builders) to "do a disc golf thing" at a private party for the owner's employees.  We were "on" for 4 hours in the hot, hot sun (luckily, there was one of four wet bars nearby -each with a margarita machine).

We set up 4 baskets (MUCH THANKS to Jojo, Mirth, and Chud) - 3 as actual dg holes and one putting basket. The 3 holes ranged from 120-170 feet and took advantage of the great changes in terrain (#1 was a 20' drop off to a basket neat a creek, #2 was through old oaks uphill, #3 was open and longer across one of the side yards).  There was a treehouse from which Brett teed off a few times!

This place was posh - the electric bill is probably more than my mortgage!  We we not the only attraction that day - there was a band, several wet bars, a huge, fan-cooled tent, tug-o-war, scavenger hunt, and a fishing contest.  Approx 30-40 people checked us out and some even played a second or third round (of 3 holes).  We brought over 75 discs (Thanks to Paul and Al) which were all used. We passed out a few dozen club "InfoPaks" which were similar to the packets given out at the 2002 WB. We also handed out biz cards (made by Bill) and presented the best players (and the owner's daughter) with 5 prize discs (Lightning discs donated by Barry Gilbert  -THANKS!!!).  This estate was approx 20 acres and had gorgeous statues of Native Americans, cowboys, and buffalo.  It also had a small horse ranch attached.

We made a good impression on a lot of people, including the owner (Mr. Kennedy) and Michelle from the entertainment agency (Prism), who might use us again.

I would love to have all our interested members do something like this whenever the chance pops up (and I am trying to make a few more happen this year).  It was a TON of fun!

Also, on hole 3, which the 3 of us were playing all day, Brett made 4 Aces, Paul canned 2 Aces, and I hit (only) one Ace.  No lost discs either!

THANKS again to everyone who helped in any way - you provided a great service to the club and to disc golf!
