Title: 2006 IOS Tees
Post by: DougEDawg on March 10, 2006, 06:09:03 AM
Just curious, what format does everyone like for IOS#1 ams (give it to me in "round 1 format, round 2 format").  Personally, I would like to see one round with mixed tees and one with all championship tees.  Just my selfish opinion as I'm aware that there are rec players out there on the day I play.  I'm just not a big fan of the short tees at Parkside.  Most of them are not very challenging.  Plus, I hate to see a championship calibur course not used to it's fullest.

So, "all champ tees, mixed tees"

Doug, I think this deserves its own thread, so I broke it out over here.

My preference for lower ams at Parkside is for one round of longs and 1 round of shorts. I think it is much easier on the players and officials if it is all or nothing during the round. For Advanced ams I'd go with all longs all day.

I'm just putting this file here so that it is handy...

I usually defer to Jon on the lower day and Brett on the upper day.  Where we have long and short tees I prefer that we do a round of longs and a round of shorts on the lower day because we have women and children playing the lower day who enjoy the shorts more.  If all of the players in a division would rather play shorts both rounds and not get ratings for the round where everyone else is playing longs, I'm fine with the junior girls or rec women or am seniors or whatever opting for two rounds of shorts.  We might have a junior girls division this year if the two Rachels come to any tournaments together.

I don't have a lot of length in my game.  Yet, I really don't care.  My only issue is having some screwy division of tee placements like they did at the Indiana State Championships last year.  Intermediates and Rec. played different tees at times.  This resulted in the rec rounds being unrated as there were not enough gators.  That blew! In the second round I played with an intermediate guy who had a bad first round when I had a reasonbly   (for me) decent first round. There were times when he was on the long tee and the other player and I were on a shorter one.

Long/short/in between/whatever...just have everybody on the am day play the same course.

I understand Doug's desire to play the longs.  After his first few rounds he should alleviate that problem when he gets over 915 and can start playing advanced. ::) ::)

They did different divisions on different tees at that TADGA tournament I played and one odd advanced player had to play the morning round with intermediates.  The way that course is laid out, on some holes he was playing a different fairway from the other players in his group.  That must have been funky.

We try to avoid funky.

The short tees can become fairly challenging when you put the pin placements in different locations.

There is an option to move baskets in between rounds, but it would take permission from the university and some volunteers to walk the course and move them.

If possible, once the placements have been determined, let me know and we can move the baskets a couple weeks before the tournament (weather permitting). We'd like to "salvage" as much as possible the basket area.

Thought that I would post this here....  From Kuffel..

We are planning a spring cleanup day on Saturday April 8. We would like
to spread chips where necessary and just do general cleanup. So spread the
word to those not on this e-mail.  The more the merrirer and quicker we'll
be done.

I'll be in Charlotte on that weekend....

#4 long needs to have the anchor reset so that it is ready for this event.

Wish I could be there on the 8th. I'll be outta town.

Serg,
To make things simple we'll keep the pins in 1 location.

Here are the baskets that need to be moved. We played today.
2,4,5,12,13,14, & 17.

The 2 Alternate holes will be fun. Dan, Steve Cohn, & Kyle Skuglik played them today.

Are any of the Int/Rec tees for IOS 2 the red tees?  I would think they might be the whites instead, but I'm trying to picture the 348' vs. 270' on hole #2.  If there's a tee even further back from where I know the concrete tee is at (where the tee sign is),  I can't picture it - or at least haven't looked hard enough to see it.  If the Int/Rec is doing a 270', I'm just curious if that's the red tee, which is a grass tee, further up.  I'm going to start going out and practicing the course and want to make sure I'm starting from the right spot.  I guess I could just check the tee signs too :)  They are marked well enough!

The other thing that makes me think that we're not throwing from red tees (which I haven't even done before) is because hole 19 is marked as 625, and I know that's the white/blue tee vs. the much shorter red tee.

Int/Rec/Jr are not playing any red tees. They will be playing all white tees by the signs both rounds.

Hole #2 blue tee is very hard to find. It's very close to the baseball field.

Hope this helps.

Yes, it definitely does help!  I play all those tees already, so it will be more of the same 'ole same 'ole.  Now if I could only throw better (I know I know, famous last words).  I'll probably sign up for this years rec group at IOS 2, sounds like fun :)

At Crystal Lake the tees will be marked with cones. The tee pads are in pretty good condition since most of the spots we throw from are not where most of the chuckers throw from. Dan, Mike, & I checked out the temp holes today. All 4 will play after hole 18. One is a long par 4. 2 will have some pretty heavy rough to deal with if you get off the fairway especially #20.

Any way to give a short summary of where this is???  I'm pretty sure I just throw from where the chuckers throw when I'm out there.  I'd like to practice the real tees as sometimes a small angle change changes everything (especially on holes like the blind hyzer hole in the woods).

It is very difficlut to describe where each tee will be placed. I will do my best.

#3 (Back half of tee to the flat part on the right)
#4 (Back towards the walking path, there is a dirt area that is low there the tee belongs)
#5 (Anywhere flat)
#6 (Back half on flat ground)
#7 (Right & just in front of sign)
#8 (Back & left side of pad)
#9 (Back & left of tee sign in line with the trees that split the fairway)
#10 (Back right corner of pad)
#11 (Back half of tee pad)

About 900ft on hole #21?!? Yowza.  I guess that leads me to the question: Will 21 and 22 be played on Sunday?  Thanks for all the info though, my brother is thinking about playing... I can't make it.  He also likes to take full advantage of the extended tees, but this will help keep it more consistent.

Modifying...I reversed my days...sun was in my eyes...I left my tux at the cleaners...

I believe we are capping Saturday at 20 holes for a total of 100 players. Sunday is 20 or 22 holes depending on what Bruce and Brett decide.

I'm fine with capping at 100 Saturday.  Pros and Advanced players have been around long enough to learn to pre-register.  If we could fill on pre-reg we could do payouts and half the financials on Friday.

I'm fine with 22 holes on Sunday if Brett wants to set up that many and we have permission to use those areas.

If, on the lunch hour, Jon, you set Brett and I up on your computer, we could enter Sunday morning walk-up players and Sunday morning scores in the afternoon.

Brett when you are describing the new tee areas, I'm assuming they are relative to the old tees.  For exapmple, the second tee is to the "far left and back (of the old tee)".

No, I think he means relative to the location of the lion exhibit at the Lincoln Park Zoo.

That is correct Doug. They are the regular tees but some of those pads have expanded to 50X50ft & there is no way to tell where the regular tee is. For the tournament each tee will have a set of cones to mark the tee box.

Mike & I marked the alternate tees & made some adjustments last night.

#19-301ft (Take path towards dog park. Tee is right next to the woods. Basket it located to the right of the small tree & unused exercise equipment)
#20-329ft. (Tee is north of #19's basket. Basket is just past the big nasty rough on the left side. Don't burn it :o)
#21-472ft. (Walk along baseball fence past soccer field. Basket is located on the hill near a clump of trees)
#22-245ft. (Walk along volleyball court, Tee is along the parking lot with the basket located under the clump of trees.)
