I suggest that if 2 or 3 show up, they play individually, winner take all.
(minor beautifications to the above table by your loving moderator - mirth)
the idea sounds nice, but I doubt I'd be able to get the time to get out regularly. Still, I guess its not for points so its more of a mini-tourney in a way.
WOOF!
I'm gonna make it a point to be out at the park by 10 on Sundays. Even earlier should be possible and is likely, but 10 is a sure thang.
Of course! I will be at the course with whacker in hand (tee hee!).
Brett and I, 7 down I believe.
Yeah..... hey Brett I'd say that instead of updating previous posts that aren't on the current page just post the updated results as a new reply (as you did this time).
Its just a little confusing to see from the main page that something is new or updated then not have a thread be bolded.... Ya know...
League results page has been updated....
Last local forecast I saw said winds @ 30-40, gusting higher..... And to think we're playing 27[/u] holes!!!
Who are we, nuts? :D
Come along now children. mustn't feed the trolls....
Why are you getting your panties all up in a wad over some anonymous coward, Brett? I'd say its definately not worth it.
I said it before, and I'll say it again.... Don't feed the troll and it will go away.
I've offered up space on my server to Jim many a time in the past, and if we want to put the junior league old data or anything else we may want archived onto my box I'm cool with that.
And, I had a feeling that was you vanmaster, at least not whomever that was yesterday posting the crap about handicaps. You're the only person I know who browses the board from abbott.... ;)
Yep, you are.
League results have been updated on the club site.
Awesome! Thanks in advance Jon!
Yeah, thats what I thought the rule was (by my recent reading of 804.5 related discussion on the PDGA board... someone posted the whole 80x series of rules).
Yeah, I think the confusion came from your declaration of the shot being an unsafe lie, which would bring with it a one stroke penalty.
It doesn't matter much now after the fact, nor would it have during the round as both you and Brett declared your throws down in the riverbed 'unsafe'.
Having clarity does help, tho. :)
Also, if Jim and Myk are battling for second, wouldn't that mean that the loser would take 3rd? So really Jay, Jojo, Shawn, and myself would have to beat Myk or Jim to hope to finish 3rd....
I know, I'm being a smartass.... :p
Where's the attachment?
Ohhhhhhhh yeaaaaaaahhhhhh baby!
I think this is fair to players, good for the club, will probably increase attendance, and be easier to deal with (less of Jim's fuzzy math, that bast*rd).
Good job guys!!!!!!!
A Friendly Message to Al:
NOW is the time to take that big ski trip - or to try bungee jumping, skydiving, or to buy a seat on the next space shuttle. Leave now, because your fame of four-peating will be short-lived and your humiliation will be great.
Love, Your Friends,
the Spankees
Ah yes. Brett will be running the Autumn League. However, it would be a good idea to keep one league always at Bevier. Consistency is important to get new players out, and Bevier is the perfect new player's course. I suggest that we keep Autumn Best Shot at Bevier period.
So let's introduce a Brand New League:
the CIRCUS League!
Here's the idea: Play one of the closest 4 or 5 courses each week. Whatever you play on Thursday, you play again on Saturday. This way you can show once or both times. There are no points! Only cash - only for that day!
Thursdays - 6pm start - bring glow discs
Saturdays - 9:30am start
18 holes each date
$1 per player
2 Pools, Upper/Lower
Individual Play
1 winner take all in each division
Ace Pool $1 optional
Alternating locations ranging from Milwaukee to Joliet, kinda like practice for Safari 2003!
Example:
Thursday, Oct 10th - Parkside
Sunday, Oct 13th - Parkside
Thursday, Oct 17th - Round Lake
Saturday, Oct 20th - Round Lake
Thursday, Oct 24th - Adler
Sunday, Oct 27th - Adler
Thursday, Oct 31st - Valley View
Sunday, Nov 3rd - Valley View
Or something like that. Any comments????
Forget the circus league idea. I won't be able to make half of 'em either and I think we could come up with something better in Spring. Besides, the 12-event 2003 Safari Series will be a rocking good time that people will tend to attend before a screwy, no points league........
Whatever you can do is appreciated! I'll be whackin' til the whackin's through.
THANKS to everyone who came out to play and for those who stayed late and helped whack and measure holes! Brett and I lined the fairway on 8 - man it looks sweet. Mirth and Brett also created some nice pathways in the woods. Just in case the WPD doesn't mow, or in case we get 60+ people, we set up a sixth temp hole running along Yorkhouse with some treelove! Woo-hoo!
BTW, Brett and Jay shot a 13-Under for a League Record! Great shooting guys!
Oooh nooo! It's gonna be too windy! It's gonna be too cold! I want my mommy! Oh, how ever will I finish 27 big holes? Wahhhhh!
Brett, el Supremo Monkey Butt, has strode ahead to a double-digit point lead over Mirth and Myk. He's been playing like crazy! Speaking of crazy, Jason really threw great yesterday, nabbing the CTP and first place! Woo-hoo!
Although we are just beginning to establish a "real" and accurate handicapping method, the one we're using does work OK. It brings an edge of clarity where there was none. It brings light into the darkness. Water in the desert! Oxygen in the stratusphere! Life on Mars! Hanna into the Barbera! ... until we reach the center, the pinnacle of disc golf itself: the never-ending drive! A-hahahahahahaha!
It is a special monkey. You may not touch it. Now is the time on Sprokets when ve dance!
BTW Mr. C, what has happened to your home page? And your name?
Mirth, nice job on BS stats! THANKS!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
RULE: 803.02 MARKING THE LIE
A. After each throw, the thrown disc must be left where it came to rest until the lie is established by the placing of a marker. This can be done by placing a mini marker disc on the playing surface between the hole and the disc, directly in line with the hole, touching the thrown disc. A player may instead choose, without touching or repositioning the thrown disc, to use the thrown disc as the marker. The marker may not be moved until the throw is released. A marker inadvertently moved prior to the throw shall be returned to its correct location.
B. A player is only required to mark the lie with a mini marker disc when repositioning the lie under the rules. This includes the following rules: out-of-bounds, disc above the playing surface, lost disc, unsafe lie, relocated for relief, interference, or repositioning the lie within 1 meter of the out-of- bounds line.
C. If the thrown disc comes to rest in-bounds but within one meter of an out-of-bounds line, the lie is marked by placing a mini marker disc up to one meter away from, and perpendicular to, the nearest out-of-bounds line. This holds true even if the direction takes the lie closer to the hole. See the following sections for other consideration in marking a thrown disc:
(1) Relocated for relief - 803.04 C (2)
(2) Interference - 803.06 A, B
(3) Above the playing surface - 803.07 A
(4) Out-of-bounds - 803.08 B
(5) Lost - 803.10 B
D. The Rule of Verticality: The out-of-bounds line represents a vertical plane. Where a player's lie is marked from a particular point within one meter of the out-of-bounds line pursuant to the rules, the one-meter relief may be taken from the particular point upward or downward along the vertical plane.
The play in question: the disc was on the side of the ditch, not OB. Where we threw from was within one meter of the lie. Perheps I called reference to the wrong ruling, but it was still legal.
Jay did all the work for us yesterday. I was the only one needing charity......
Y'all just be good little boys and show up for your butt-kickin'! Ain't no way some fancy-britches Kenosha or Gurnee boys is gonna swipe my winnings! Woo-hoo! Dar's gonna be some whoopin' and a-whompin' over da next two weeks! Should be funnnnnnnn!
You must be like dem dar Evanstonians, dood.......
I am currently accepting 'donations' as encouragement for missing the last week of leagues . . . . . .
Acceptable donations include cash, Guiness, government cheese, and SuperElasticBubblePlastic.
What a fabulous league! Brett did a great job running things, and with so many people turning out each week, it was a treemendous success!
Uh-huh. Those would be YOUR discs, Mr. BigDog!
Here is the Fall Schedule. Post if you have a problem with this. We have a few weeks to play around. I thought we could have some fun with this. I like the idea of mixing it up this way & having 2 shots at the CTP on the 1-9 days.
Week 1-] Sept 8th, holes 1-9 & 1-9. CTP #3 (*2 shots for CTP*).--------------------------------
Week 2-] Sept 15th, holes 1-9 & 10-18. CTP #18. -------------------------------------------

Looks like AL is the man to beat again. I really think the turnout for this league is going to be BIG. Sounds like Sunday mornings are going to be a good time for a lot of people.
I'm going to take care of the Fall League for Jim. Trying to prepare to keep very accurate records. Jim- i'm going to need score cards & the clip boards once summer league is done.
Sign In Sheet
Fees & Payout Schedule
Weekly attendance stats & $
I like that idea Jim but i'm not going to be able to commit that much time once school & coaching starts. I'll try to make it as much as possible but can't promise anything. That is why i'm so stoked about Sunday. I'll be able to make them all! The dogs are coming AL!
Here is the official info for the 2002 Fall League.

Ties for all positions will be resolved with CTP to #19.
Just a reminder. We will be working at Bevier after Best Shot this weekend. Anyone willing to give a hand? I'm bringing my weed whacker. Here are a few things that need to get done. 1. Mark where the alternates are going to be placed (tees & baskets) 2. Trim rough on #7, #8, & area behind #8 under power lines. 3. Pick up garbage. 4. Take care of bees on #9 & pick up debris & trash for stream.
i don't plan on spending more than an hour or so. i have fantasy football to keep track of & a bunch of games to watch. we should be able to get a lot done in an hour. we can then finish the 13th.
Yes, 10:30AM. I will also be out there early since i'm taking over for Jimbo. I got everything ready & Jim is bringing score cards. Mirth, you gonna be able to stay for a little while so we can clear out #7 Sunday?
I thought today ran pretty smooth. I liked the 2 shots at the CTP. I'm sure Jay loved it! I'm still hoping we get about 10. We haven't averaged over 10 per week for any league. The course looks sweet right now. Mirth, Jay, Jim, & I stayed and worked after leagues. We cleared out #7 & #8. The paths are wider & cleaner. Jim also marked out all the alternate holes today. They are going to be much longer & very interesting.
Attendance & Funds Stats
I don't think there has been a tie for any of the overall point winners. We may want to discuss how we should break any ties that may occur after the 10 week league. Leagues are becoming more competitive & there may be a possibility of a tie. I thought maybe a sudden death format. Start on #1 & players play until someone wins a hole. What do you guys think?
Points after 3 weeks.
1. Brett 10 + 10 + 2 = 22
1. Mirth 2 + 10 + 10 = 22
3. Jay 10 + 0 + 8 = 18
4. Zack 6 + 8 + 1 = 15
5. Jim 8 + 4 + 1 = 13
6. Jojo 4 + 6 + 1 = 11
6. Myk 8 + 2 + 1 = 11
8. Chris 0 + 0 + 10 = 10
9. Keith 2 + 0 + 6 = 8
9. Al 6 + 2 + 0 = 8
9. Kevin 0 + 8 + 0 = 8
9. Shawn 0 + 0 + 8 = 8
13. Jon 0 + 0 + 6 = 6
13. Scott 0 + 6+ 0 = 6
15. Jason 0 + 4 + 0 = 4
15. Paul 4 + 0 + 0 = 4
15. Bill 0 + 0 + 4 = 4
15. Lucas 0 + 0 + 4 = 4
19. Trisha 0 + 0 + 2 = 2
20. Allison 0 + 0 + 1 = 1
I like the CTP for weekly tie breakers due to time constrictions but I also agree for overall point positions a sudden death playoff should be carried out. Players play until someone wins a hole.
Well, it's weird. I'm a very hot/cold player. I've been doing everything I can to play consistant but some days I just don't have it. I know I have been improving but there are many things I know I still need to work on. I've had some great partners the last 2 weeks as well!! Hopefully I can make the same jump I made from last year to this summer. I guess i'll find out next summer.
Hey guys!
Check out the attached file. I've saved the best shot information sheet. See if there is anything we should add or change to it. Now we can just change schedule for each league & we'll be ready to go. I think this is helpful to new players.
Later
Brett
ok, here is that attached file. sorry!

Attached are points after week 3.
Lots of golf this coming Sunday. Holes 1-27. Shawn 2'd #27 yestarday. WOW. I will be posting the updated scores & hole information. Jeff put together a spreadsheet that calculates hole averages for leaguse. Can anyone guess the easiest & hardest holes so far for best shot?

I find these stats very interesting. #4 is the easiest hole so far averaging 2.26. #25 is the hardest averaging 3.53. Total average per hole (all 27 holes) is 2.84. There have been no 2's on #14, #20, & #25. With 23 rounds played on the cement tees, there have been only 6 4's. 4 of those on #9.
oh boy! scattered showers @ 30%. 20-30MPH Winds. it's going to a fun day!

overall point totals
cry me a river!!! same hadicapping system used for at least 5 leagues now. i guess i'm a bagger when we used my partners shot for all 5 2's for the first round yestarday. Also, in 6 weeks of play, the 1 handicap that my team has received every week has not won or tied ANY ROUND.
The first score is my teams score w/out hadicap for my team.
Week 1-] -12(1st), 2nd was -11
Week 2-] -7(1st), 2nd was -6 w/ 1 handicap
Week 3-] finished 6th out of 7 teams.
Week 4-] -5 (tied for 1st), other team was also
-5,(both teams got 1 handicap & would have tied anyway) won ctp, shared winnings w/2nd place team.
Week 5-] -10 (2nd), 3rd was -7w/handicap
Week 6-] -11 (1st), 2nd was -7
Maybe you should know the facts before you start popping off!!!!!!!!
I forgot to mention 1 thing. After summer league was done we had a club meeting & we discussed leagues. Paul, Jim, Mirth, & I were the only 4 that showed up. We discussed leagues & decided to keep everything the same. If you have a problem with the way things are run, you may want to show up at a few of the meetings & voice your opinion. I have posted before that the minority are making the decisions for the majority because of low turnout at club meetings.
AWESOME!!! Thanks Jon
It is still a 10:30AM start. Not sure why it would be changed. We've been finishing between 12:30 & 1:00.
Thanks for breakfast Jon & Becky!!! Congrats to Jim & Jay on the big win. Please check point totals for accuracy.
Just for future references.
RULE: 803.05 UNSAFE LIE
A. A player may, by adding one penalty throw, declare his or her lie to be an unsafe lie and relocate to a new lie that is no closer to the hole and within five meters of the unsafe lie. Or, if the player cannot find a lie that suits him or her within five meters of the unsafe lie, the player may, with two penalty throws, relocate to any new lie on the fairway of the hole in play that is no closer to the hole than the unsafe lie.
that is cool. i'm still trying to learn the rules. it didn't effect the outcome & i think you still would have had a 3 from there anyway.
i just don't like that rule myself. i've taken many shots from down in that ditch. the one thing i don't like is that you would have had a tough upshot from down in the ditch. you probably would have taken a three but a two would have taken a miracle shot. from the lie you got for relief, you had a good look at the basket. Jim almost nailed it for a 2. the relief took a bad drive & made it a pretty good one. that is what i don't like about it.
don't forget about the time change this week. don't show up an hour early & wonder where the hell everyone is at.
Great day for disc today. Awesome turnout, great throwing by Shawn & Myk. 11 down! Got a lot done at the club meetin afterwards.
Please check attached weekly scores. There is a huge battle for 2nd & 3rd place between Myk, Jay, Jim, Jojo, & Mirth.
points after week 9. looks like jim & myk have a battle for 2nd & jay, mirth, jojo, & shawn battling to take over the 3rd position from Jim. rememer- any point ties for prize positions will play a sudden death playoff starting at hole #1
sorry, i'll attach it later. forgot. jim is the only one who has a shot to move into 2nd place. either jim or myk are going to finish 2nd. if jim screws up, then the others would have a chance to steal 3rd from him.
sorry this was delayed!
attached are the week by week by week spreadsheet.
Final Point Standings for Autumn 2002
1. Brett-] 74
2. Myk-] 61
3. Jim-] 52
4. Shawn-] 46
T5. Mirth-] 40
T5. Jay-] 40
Week 1 thru 10 results.
We ended up averaging 11.3 players per week. I think that is the best we've done in any leagues. I expect that to drop a little in the winter but pick up again in the spring. I can't wait to see discs skipping & sliding across the pond this winter!
As i was updating the winter leagues i found this interesting. I'm putting this on flyers that we can hang at Round Lake, Libertyville, & Parkside
11.3 players per week @ Autumn League
$668.00 Paid Out
Ace Pool Finished @ $123.00
So who took Best Shot this Sunday?
You're such studs!

I think I speak for everyone when I say..."Damn Brett!!! What has gotten into you!". At the begining of the summer you moved yourself down to Am, then back up to Adv. after a couple weeks of summer play, then last weekend you were 1 point short of tying for second in the Pro division at the Blast. You're taking 'roids, aren't you.
As a fellow spankee, may I suggest that you take up fishing or skeet shotting as an alternative to leagues. We really do not want you to humiliate yourself and dishonoring your family name.
Valley View is closed at night due to theif and close proximity of homes.
How come the web-site says that you start at 9:30? I thought that it was 10:30? are you starting earlier now? What time does league usaully end? I'm just wondering if I can make it and also make my godsons b-day party without being to late for cake.
I love it, and think it's a beautiful idea!!
What about traveling to other courses? I would love to get in some time at Round Lake, Parkside, or Adler with the club.
Sounds like a personal thing. You sure you want help??
I say play a sudden death round for any pay out positions. I know we usually play a CTP, but to me that's more luck than skill. That's just me though.
Quoteparsaver (10-14-2002 05:10 p.m.):
handicaps suck when it is random draw pro/am
Then I guess it's a good thing you don't come play leagues with us, isn't it! :P
Mirth has always been good with the BS. :D
This is going to be an interesting last couple of weeks. I can't wait to see how it turns out.
Congratulations on taking first Brett. You took an early lead and just held it there. Jim, sorry I had to skunk you for second, but I'm sure you understand. :P
I just wanted to say thanks to all the great partners I had this season. It's been a lot of fun, and I can't wait for the next season to start. :D
I like the idea, I just hate the fact that I work evenings starting September 24th. Stupid college kids, who wants an education anyways?
I should be able to give a hand atleast for a little while. I have to see what the girl friend has planned for the day though :-)
umm so leagues are at 10:30 right?
Anyone going out there early to warm up or whatever? If so what time?
I tottaly agree with you BC. An entire round of playing got you to that tied position not a single drive, so why base the winner of one? After all just because you may be able to make a better drive than anther player doesn't mean your better you still have to putt it out.
So yeah I am in favor of a playoff hole rather than CTP if it comes down to it.
Brett very nice rebuttal , you made your point and made it well.
Score, Brett 1 other person 0
giggle, I'm the guy that would do that too.....
And Jim your too kind, I had a few shots as did you. We were lucky, when I had a bad one you had a good one and vice versa.
Hmm, well Jim since you neglected to mention Evanston in there, i assume your giving those of us who reside there (namely me) permision to beat you silly like a little girl.
Thank you and I shall be glad to accomidate you!
League was great and the after league skins was fun also! Next time I'll remember to bring some singles so I can payout at the end. : )
Free Continental Breakfast for everyone at league tomorrow (10/20/02)! I will have assorted pastries from La Francaise Bakery and orange juice. I will try to get there a little after 10am---plenty for all!!!
You don't have to defend yourself to every jackass. We all know you got the skills, plus that 6 inches of Hany's you were talking about.
