Title: Oly Spring Opener
Post by: DougEDawg on March 20, 2006, 08:23:52 AM
Is Brian running all divisions on one day?  i. e. Pro, intermediate, adv, rec etc., or is this just pro and adv. with no intermediate or rec.?

It has always been all divisions on one day including rec and int. There has never been pre-reg that I know of, so I try to get there early.

I e-mailed Brian the other day and he got back to me. He WILL be accepting pre-registration. He gave me his address to send him a check, which I was gonna post here but then thought better of giving his address out. If you want, e-mail him at catalystpro@earthlink.net or send me a personal message & I'll give the address to you.

Anyone planning on going next weekend? I'm locked in and hope to be somewhere at or below Par, unlike Kenosha.  :o

I e-mailed Biran Cummings saving 8 spots for the 2 cars that we have heading down there. If you are planning to attend i'd e-mail Brian. Make a print of of his response so you gurantee your spot. He will hold spots. He replied and said that there is going to be 2 rounds of 27 holes this year so there is going to be a max field of 135 players for all divisions. I'll run a tag challenge down there.

Mike, this is one of the shortest courses you would play all year. You would probably throw your driver on 0 holes . It does have some nice thumber/tommy holes.  Every hole is a birdie hole. There are a few tricky holes with sidwalks & parking lots ob. It's a birdie fest & you have to get a bunch to win.

It's a nice well kept public park with scattered trees throughout the course. There are no true wooded holes with tight alley shots but this course does require you to have an accurate mid game avoiding the obstacles in place and ob.

You better find some open field. You can throw a putter across the entire park at Oly .

Were there 27 holes last year? I played 2 yrs ago and there were 24 I think. Trying to imagine where he could cram in 3 more holes. Did they still have that goofy L to R hairpin hole with the really unclear mando?

Hourly forcast on Accuweather is showing periods of rain & sun w/20 mph winds. We all know the weatherman is less than 100% effective, let's just hope they're off & wish for the best.

I was thinking about going to this one but with rain now in the picture.  Hmm let me think, hour and a half drive, C tier, chance of rain and 20 mph winds, or I can play at bevier.  I will probably be taking option B.

PS: forgot to add short as hell course

I think you just made a bunch of Advanced players happy.  :toothy2:

On a serious note, it is the first IL tourney of the year and I want to at least "try" to get an Obelisk, so I'll be there for sure, rain or shine.

Never again will I let someone sign me up for a C tier 3 hours away, and then after I had given up, get shit from someone who did not even cash in the event thinking it was a good tournament when there was one hole you can throw your driver on.  Next time I will personnally call the TD myself to tell him I will not be there if you pull that shit again.

I'm officially bailing out on this one and going to league for just one round of wet and windy.
I just can't see playing all day in the pouring rain with 20 to 30 mph wind on slick rubber tee pads.

Good luck to those hard core enough to deal with it.

Bad enough that I got soaked through the SealSkinz socks I've got. And I didn't bring an additional pair of socks as the SealSkinz are supposed to be waterproof. (maybe I didn't have them pulled up to my neck?!?) Rained throughout the morning with 3-4" puddles covering some tees. I won't even mention how messed up the tees for the temporary holes were towards the end of round 1. I bailed on round 2. Anyone who decided not to go made a good decision in my opinion. I won't go to another rain out tourney again.

Dan,  I definetly will. I was saying exactly that to myself during the round, but I guess we all have to try to play in the rain at least once, just to go to the school of hard knocks.

Chris

I keep imagining Charlie Brown standing on the pitcher's mound in a driving rainstorm wondering where everybody else is.  Ya gotta love the attiitude but...ok, you've taken enough @#%& over and above getting soaked to the gills...So, how many eager throwers were there?  I assume you weren't the only one who bailed after the first round.  Did anybody play the second?

DOH! I guess Lucy was the weatergirl......     :-[

All in all I'd say there were about 40-50 people max? I don't think there was a five-some anywhere on the course, and I actually played in a 3 man group.

Tom S., Tom M., and Jose from Discontinuum were there. Tom S. hit an Ace from what I hear, but not sure how much $ he got for it. I know Tom M. played the second as he had messaged me earlier, and I'm sure if Tom S. hit an Ace he stayed to get his $.

From Tom S.
I shot a -9 second round to keep me in 2nd place behind Hutter who also shot a -9 second round nice pay out 130.00 for 2nd.There was another ace 2nd round so we split 118.00 Jose didnt want to talk about his round and I didnt look at the board so I dont think he did good.

I shot plus seven first round and minus one the second and finished last in Am Masters, the winner was plus one.  It rained like 27 mfs out there.  It was pretty miserable, but if I am driving 90 minutes I am finishing the day out.  I will think twice about doing it again, but would make the same decision knowing the results. It was good practice to throw in the rain, because the day will come when it is nice and we get stuck in a shower and hopefully I will be a little better prepared. I am guessing there were around 70 people, would have been 120 if it was nice.  I don't know how many left after the first round.  I am sure Chris wasn't alone.

:D

There were a lot of factors that made up my mind Saturday night to stay home.

90% rain (hard rain)
55 degrees
Wind 25+
Slick rubber tee pads
Not so great course.

The final factor was I really didn't think more than 40 people would play. I didn't want to drive that far to play with no one. I was surprised to hear 70 or so played.

It actually worked out pretty good. I was able to spend the weekend with the wife which will help in the long run. She feels a lot better about letting me to go Tower Ridge/Wakanda and another 3 day trip.

I figured if a tournament wasn't able to motivate me to get out and play in the rain leagues wouldn't. Not to mention i'm playing doubles 3-4 times a week right now.
