damn
Yet another good reason to join/renew thru the club!
If you're on the fence about joining the PDGA & were planning on doing it for 2007, wait until September of this year to join. You'll get the rest of this year & all next year at the lower rate.
You know, it's the price factor that is probably the major reason I'm NOT a PDGA member right now. Maybe it would come in handy if I did a lot of tournaments, but I very rarely can make it out to a Sunday morning event (ie. Best Shot at Bevier). I just don't see the benefit of joining up (for me at least) right now, and with prices going up on top of it? yuck! Sure it's only once a year, but the bottom line is that you get a number and your stats tracked. It would be cool to be a member, but if I only go play at 1 or 2 tournaments a year, is it worth it?
Kinda wish there was more incentive to get in for that first year...
you get a custom mini w/your # stamped on it, plus a pdga logoed disc.... not to mention 4 issues of jam packed disc golf coverage
PDGA helps disc golf as a whole. Your PDGA membership is an investment to helping the sport grow.
If you look at it as: $20 of the PDGA fee is the magazine, the other $ goes to tracking stats, a mini, a disc, etc. So even next year you're really only paying $30 for your membership, the magazine would cost you $20/year anyhow. If you play only 2 tournaments, you've saved $5 at each by being a PDGA member, so then you're only paying $20. It's good value for the $.
The PDGA has talked about for several years to raise membership fees to be similar to other similar sized sports/hobby organizations.
I'll keep paying the fee because:
#1 - I am a Certified Official and run events
#2 - it helps DG grow
#3 - How can you sell the sport at the PDGA level if you aren't a member
#4 - I play 6 events a year and might as well pay to be a member and get 4 Magazines and stats - then someone who doesnt and gets nothing for their $30 worth of PDGA Non-Member Fees.
I'll keep paying my membership because I'm a mind numbed robot who does whatever Terry Calhoun orders me to do. :smileinbox:
Actually, disc golf is my thing. Everyone should have a thing that's their thing. Disc golf might not be as noble a thing as cancer research or feeding the poor, but I have played the Brent Hambrick, the Gayle Vaughn and numerous ice bowls! :angel4:
I renewed because I might want to play an A-tier or a major; I like getting the magazine; I might want to run a tournament in my own name; I like getting ratings; the year I won the obelisk -- that was sweet; I might want to play Worlds next year; I might have to run for the Board; I certainly enjoy posting on the message board. Lots of reasons.
I could've gone on and on but didnt want to bore everyone with the reasons that I signed up and renewed my Membership.

I knew about the mini, but that's only for the first year. If you got a new one each renewal (with a special design for each year), that would be neat. Stinks that they don't do something to get your name into the mini. I know it costs more, but I think it would be worth the effort.
At first I thought it was only 1 issue of the magazine (I couldn't find where it said more than just "PDGA Magazine") 4 issues helps, and would make $40 sound a little bit better.
Maybe I'll hang on until the end of the year before signing up. We shall see....
