Title: Analyze my shot please?
Post by: dark12 on March 31, 2006, 01:00:45 PM
Hey all!
I was gonna post this in the technique section of the PDGA forums, but I guess you need to be a member to post there now.   :(
Well anyway, I was playing with my putter yesterday and I decided to have my friend film me so I could get some advice on my throw.
The link to the video is - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOjc-9tCDrM

But yea, it looks like I pause too long on my last step before I release the disc.  Also, is my arm too bent when i am pulling the disc back?  Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

I've read a lot of Dave Dunipace critiques of form.  I think this is what he would say, but in my words:

Your foot work is pretty good except you are stretching out that last step which is killing your momentum.  Also you are throwing from the back of your stride.  You'll get more power if you delay the throw until you are more on the front foot.

Dave Dunipace would really like the bent arm reach back because you are getting good rotation with your shoulders and good reach back with the elbow.  That is hard to see unless you catch it in a freeze-frame.  You are pulling across right about the same height of the logo on your shirt which is in the zone.  Your reach back is like what Dave teaches.

The extra arm swing during the run-up does not add anything to the throw.  It forces you to rush your backswing.  It can cause you to spray your shots.  You'll see some good pros do that, but it is not what Dave teaches.

I'm not sure where Dave is with the non-throwing arm.  Most pros who are good at teaching will say that your tuck position is o.k., but better is to get the non-throwing arm up and extended back relative to your shoulders during the reach back and then bring it into the tucked position during the throw, if you are going for max D.  This is just like what a figure skater does to power a spin move.

Awesome thanks so much for the critique!
I will definitely try to delay my swing more.  Ill also try not to stop too far like I usually do.  And Ill eliminate that extra arm swing.  Thanks!
