Attached is a copy of the 2003 Winter League Information. Please look at it very carefully. Is there any information that needs to be added. Double check dates, CTP's, etc... I want to have this ready to hand out at the last fall best shot.
Thanks!
Weather's done.
Heh, that's funny... NOT!
Hey bruce - did you forget your BB password or something? You registered last September but always post as an anonymous person. If you used your account again you could get into the club area... Just a suggestion.
Now, back to your regularily scheduled topic.
Yeah, it doesn't ask because anonymous posting is allowed. If you click the login link on the top of the page there should be a link for 'forgot password'. If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll reset your password & email it to you.
not much now, but you can send/receive private messages as well as get into the private club area (as soon as I grant the rights... give me 5 minutes)
The wife wishes you all to know that we are on crack for playing in weather such as today... 5 degree temps, -15 wind chill... I told her, 'yup, we are. disc golf is like crack.'
I hope you all are wearing extra layers... its gonna be a cold one!
Apologies for slacking.... league results have been updated on the club site.
Thanks for crunching those numbers, Brett! As I see it, we are right on track. Sure, our entry fee for leagues in higher, but the payouts are also pretty good. Not many of the club's members come to leagues consistently. Who does? The Ams & new folks keep coming in. Let's keep them in and keep new folks coming too. I believe we did a good thing when we voted to not involve cash for end-of-league payouts (we voted on this at the last 2 Quonset Pizza meetings). Paying out only in plastic and framed certificates will save the club $35+ dollars each league.
Also, having 3 Blast-type events (with the straight-to-club percentage increasing from 10% to 15%) will help a LOT!
Also, acquiring a tourney-only sponsor will save us money on what we pay for players' packages.
Acquiring a Juniors-only sponsor will ensure we lose no money on Junior leagues (Bill and Brett put some cash out of their own pockets this summer).
We are doing great and being fiscally responsible. After speaking (via email) to several clubs across the country, we seem to be dong beter than most, yet not as profitable as some. You've got to remember we are going for a balance, NOT to imitate other clubs, but to provide more events as well as fairer payouts & structures. When we close out 2003 with $1000+ in our bank account (AFTER all bills are paid), we will have built a most successful dg club. THAT IS MY PERSONAL GOAL before I am booted out of office.
Thanks to everyone who shares this vision - and those who do not. Variety and different perspectives make not only the world, but our club, spin round. It also makes us stronger.
What a great start to leagues! Strong turnout & a new face as well - welcome Damon!
Sorry I had to book so quickly - had to drive downstate. Yesterday was a ton of FUN playing in the snow! Woo-hoo!
OK, out of state players should multiply their scores by .05
Now, if you SWAM across the lake, then we could take points incentives......
Sorry I bailed today, but it was a good thing I did, believe me! Thanks Brett for keeping all the stats updated and thanks Jojo for the ssweeeet dyejob baby!
Has anyone heard from Al Gutierrez?
I see what you are saying Shawn. I think you have a good idea but I know Bevier does not have the big crowds like Parkside, or as many loyal & understanding disc golfers, thus I think we have to find ways to get new people and keep bringing them back. Once we establish the connection I think we can change a few things. With help from our sponsors, getting discs to give away as prizes will not be $ out of our pocket. For example, with only 2 weeks to go, only Jim, Mirth, & I have made it every week. I would be willing to use my free disc as a CTP for the AM players the next league. This may give a little more incentive to come each week. $8.00 is rather expensive than other leagues but it benefits as well. Looking at the #'s, we do pretty good for a 10 week league. I think our members should benefit from coming each week, supporting the club.
Good points Myk. Believe me, we are not going to lose money. At this point, the club pays for itself. The only way we are going to give out discs as prizes for perfect attendance is if one of our sponsors give us discs. Jim is putting pressure on DGW & SunKing. We have been giving them good business over the past few years. Just think, 200 cutsom stamped discs, league prize disc, & safari basket. Hopefully one of them will come through!
I agree Jim! If we could clear $1,000 for the 2003 season, that would be a very awesome year. A majority of that will come from the 3 events we host this year & leagues. That is why i firmly believe that the club should pay for itslef (not lowering payouts & screwing members). The big bucks will come from sponsors if we are able to get some. Ok, back to the winter league. Anyone else look it over?
OK,
Attached is the 2003 Winter Best Shot Info Sheet with Schedule, Rules, & CTP information.
Don't forget! Winter League starts this Sunday @ 10:30AM. 01/05/03
Looks like a white start to the winter league. One good thing is that the wind predictions on weatherchannel.com are for under 5mph tomorrow. Anyway to get the Waukegan weather put on the index2?
thanks mirth for the weather!
thanks mirth for the weather!
attached is the PAYOUT TABLE for leagues. it's the same but i figured people would probably want to take another look at it.
WEEK 1 POINTS
**Note**
I missed a tie for 5th & 6th place.
Al & Pat tied Mirth & Myk for 5th Place. Both teams shot a 47 for -7. Hopefully all 4 will be there next Sunday for a CTP to break the tie. It is a difference of 1 point, but who knows, that 1 point might be the difference after 10 weeks.
WEEK 1 TABLE
Attached is the informational table with results & $.
That was a great turnout for the first day of leagues. The weather wasn't too bad either.
WELCOME DAMON!
It was also nice seeing Paul K., Al G., & the other usual suspects. The level of play was kicked up a few notches this week.
Jim, thanks for donating the sweet QMS that Damon won on the #4 CTP. I will be donating a disc next week for another CTP. Anyone else feel free to donate a disc here & there (new or used).
Mirth, thanks for putting so much work into the website & doing the scores for the winter league.
One last note. I will be arriving early as usual to Bevier. On snow days i'll bring my 2 shovels & salt. Jim shouldn't have to do this every week. If there is anyone willing to bring shovels & salt as well, it would be nice to have guys take care of a few holes like we did Sunday. This way no one is cashed out after shoveling 9 tee pads on their own.
Ace Pool is $33.00 & whatever amount is put in tomorrow.
I will be donating a baby blue Discraft Stratus w/ rainbow stamp (174g) as a CTP on hole #3.
CTP for $ this week is #18.
See ya in the morning.
**Al, Pat, Mirth, & Myk. If all 4 of you are there early, please throw a ctp behind tennis courts to break the tie from last week. Thanks**
Not a bad turnout today of 9 players. Playing conditions were tough today with the wind. Next week, Ace Pool is $42.00+ next weeks entries. Damn near got an ACE on #4 as my CE Eagle bounced off the basket.

I too really enjoy hanging out with a great bunch of guys & playing a great sport.
The points system is really working well. After each sunday event, i would like someone help me check out scores. This way I don't miss a ctp. 1 point is the difference between 2nd & 3rd. Those ctp's do matter!
How is the club benifiting from this league? The dollar you take out goes to prizes? If you win 1st or 2nd, is that not the prize? I just feel that any form of league or event should make money for the club, am I wrong?
Every league at Parkside either has 1 or 2 bucks from each entry going to the club, which is used for future expenses. I'm quite sure the club could use the $1 or more instead of paying it out. Hey, If they make it every week give them a pat on the back and say "good job making it every week, too bad you could not beat me." Or something like that.
Yesterday was a blast. I putted everything that I drove first, and Myk picked up where my putter lacked the will to stay in the basket. Thanks Myk, awsome putting... Brett, great league, Can you use the 25 1st place money for CTP discs for next league? I won some cash a few times, I'm OK with that.. It is always cool to see an Am that has not won get something every once in a while.
Sounds good
I have to agree with Brett that most of the players almost never make ever league event in a season. But the reward for being there every time is that you get the opportunity to gain points on people that don't show. If I would have shown every week for the current league, I might have a more solid hold on second. I will guarantee that if you put prizes up for perfect attendance, you will lose money. We can't bank on sponsorships to help out because we don't have any sponsors, yet. You can't count on money you don't have. That's just bad accounting.
That's cool. I just wanted to make sure that we weren't taking money out of our own pockets and hoping that someone else would refill them. I really do hope sunking of DGW will cut us a deal.
I have a couple of DX Valks I could kick in for CTPs. 3 to be exact.
Heya Brett!
Lets see, yes I am fairly certain (98%) that everyone contirbute to the Ace Pool and Ctp. As for as disc for CTP next week I have a MRVector I could donate, it's got some dings and my name on the bottom, but if no one else comes up with anything its a disc.
I got an idea... How bout you donate one of them sweet discs you won today? ;-) !!
[EDIT]
Btw I think this is the points standing so far, Brett correct me if I'm wrong.
hey thats the beauty of Z-plaasic brett, I have no problem if the disc have been thrown a few times, they still fly like new :-)
Hey everyone sorry I couldn't be at leagues or the meeting today, I heard we had a fantastic turnout.
Sophia had to be taken to the hospital late Saturday night, she had a fever that wasn't being controlled by Tylenol. So shes had blood drawn twice, one IV, and a spinal tap. So now its just waiting two days for all results to come back.
So far everything looks good though, her tempature is down, her x-rays look good, lungs sound clear, and prelim test aren't showing anything.
So anyways just letting ya all know whats going on, while venting my frustrations, *hope no one minds*.
So peace yall, and putt em in the chains!
Weeks 5 and 6 are now online.
[Edit] Updated week6, added mirth and co.
Week 8 results online.
Week 9 updated :-)
Also I would like to appologize for my 3 week absense, between crap at work and personal/family stuff I haven't had the time etc... Anyways sorry couldn't be there sounds like it has been fun, especially with above avergae attendance and SunKing out there last week!
Anyways, I will be at leagues this coming week as well as the meeting. I am going to try to make it to safari, but can't promise anything, we'll see though!
I should be able to get these on the web site tommorrow.
Just checking what's different if I log in...
"BTW-] a mistake was made on CTP for cash. only 15 were in, not 16. I made a mistake and overpaid Bruce by $1.00."
Put it on my account and talk to me in March!
Congradulations Shawn.
What a great league, and in the blistering cold even.
Brett, I just have to say again what a good job you have done running the league. And what a great bunch of guys to play the greatest sport in the world with.
Discontinuum Rules!!!!
