Year three is looking even bigger and better. How big? 180 players over two days. How much better? Come see for yourself!!! Check out http://www.s-curvediscgolf.com for more information.
Online registration should be active in the next day or two.
Depending on recovery time from surgery this might be a miss this year >:(
Mike, let me know of any assistance you might need...I'll be available for volunteer work on Saturday, possibly Sunday if I don't play.
Thanks for offering to help Serg. This year's event is going to be HUGE so I'm going to need it!!! Simply put, players who skip this one are going to regret it.

If you flipped days with Advanced playing on Saturday you'd probably fil that baby up. Going head to head with a Gary Lewis event that has been going on for 25+ years is tough. He had 60 advanced players last year & i'm guessing most IL Adv players from the Chicago area will go there.

Being the fact that I'll be there both days - Whatever help you need - let me know!
Online registration is up and running now.
Brett,
I would've considered switching days had I known about the event in Joliet earlier (it was brought to my attention a few days ago). Unfortunately, it's too late as I've already done a good deal of promoting and a new position with my employer has severely limited my spare time. Could they switch days? Just a thought.
mike i don't think that you need to worry about it, Wham Bam has such a great reputation.
Miike
Maybe the advanced players will think geography--what's closer. I doubt you will get many Joliet area advanced players. Intermediates and lower are not sanctioned at the Lumber Cup. No contest. You have us! I will register soon. I am glad that Gary is sanctioning lower divisions for the Illinois State Championships because I really like the course in Mokena.
There are currently 4 baskets in the raffle.
Here's more info about this year's event. Players packages include two different custom stamped discs (an Innova disc in their new STAR plastic and a Discraft disc in their Elite-Z or new ESP plastic). Over $1,000 worth of sweet CTP prizes will be given away. The trophies are fantastic. $50 will be added to the ace pool each day (last year's sole ace earned Illinois' Elliot Fu over $230). This tournament is also a United States Amateur Disc Golf Championship qualifier. The tournament raffle has over $2,000 worth of great prizes including at least 4 baskets!!! And to top it off, the best part is that there will be 180 disc golfers there!!!
I forgot to mention that Lightning Golf Discs is sponsoring an awesome putting contest. Each player gets a shot during lunch or while final scores are being calculated. The winner gets a brand new DB-5 portable basket from Lightning!
Also, this year's custom stamped discs will include the newly released Elite-Z Surge from Discraft.
Less than 3 weeks out, registration has picked up considerably so don't delay. Check out http://www.s-curvediscgolf.com for more information including online registration.
Rehab is coming along so I'm hoping to be able to play in this one. If I have to play forehand or left handed can I play Intermediate?? ;D
Carpool anyone? I like West Park but w/o Sanctioning I'd much rather play this.
Doesn't look like I'll be playing this one.... >:(
The knee isn't ready to play backhand and I think this course has a little too much elevation for me to last two rounds.
I guess I'll have to spend my entry fee in the raffle!
Just to make sure, there is a Mandatory Check-In from 8:00am-9:00am at the Sussex Bowling alley? If so, this is for sat and sun? Just to make sure cause I will be comin up fri to play the course and dont want to be left missin out. Also are there any campsites near by? thanks.
Hi Nick,
Yes, mandatory check-in is both days from 8:00-9:00 at Sussex Bowl (across the street and less than a quarter mile West of the course). Camping - Pike Lake is probably the closest to the course. They have info online.
See you soon,
Mike
Did you know that this will be the third largest sanctioned amateur tournament in the world this year behind only Bowling Green and Am Worlds (to the best of my knowledge and assuming a full field)? A big field means big points which help players qualify for the 2007 Am Worlds up in Milwaukee.
Check out http://www.s-curvediscgolf.com for more information and to register.
The forecast calls for sunny skies with highs in the low 70s. About 100 players have already registered, but there are still plenty of spots left. Online registration is available at http://www.s-curvediscgolf.com through Friday afternoon. Players may register at the event if spots are still available.
Where are all the ADV Women? It's the only division currently with a single registration.
Carla needs some competition, get out there and play!
We have not had many Advanced Women at the IOS, either. Our advanced women tend to play Rec Men or trophy-only Pro Women, which makes sense if you are pushing to improve.
I have just over 30 pictures and a couple of videos of DISContinuum members from this tournament. Could someone please set up a folder in the Image Gallery so I can upload...Thanks.
Congrats to Mike Clark, Dan Michler, Juan Lopez in qualifying for AmNationals (I think I missed someone, or two).
Adrian Jr. almost made it two in a row with an awesome second round score of -9 to pull within 1 stroke of the leader. He was four strokes off the lead to the start the second round and finished in a three way tie for 2nd.
Adrian Sr. placed second in Advanced Masters.
I know there were a number of DISContinuum members in attendance and I apologize I can't remember who else placed. Overall, the club did really well. Good showing.
Thanks to Mike Batka for all the hard work to make this a fun tournament. I had a great time and discovered yet another good Wisconsin course.
Does anyone know if David Barish or I won anything in the raffle?
Mitch, this is just a suggestion, but maybe if you enter a raffle or a bag tag challenge or anything else that is settled after the event is completed, stick around so people don't have to hunt you down to get stuff to you. Either that or don't get in it in the first place since you pretty much never stick around after your round is over. The last time i was handing out tags to people I decided that if you aren't there when they are handed out, then you get the bottom tag.
I'm sure you won't take it personally Mitch cuz this is just a suggestion to helpt things run more smoothly.
Dan, I hear you on the tag thing I guess I just don't care about it very much. I would accept the bottom tag if that's what the club wants to do.
The raffle tickets were sold on Saturday and drawn on Sunday. The 24 hours waiting around would have been brutal and we were told we did not need to be present to win..
Mike
Nice job on the tournament. Notwithstandng my play, it was a great time. Of course, you can't take credit for the glorious weather.
A suggestion on the raffle for next year...
Split the booty in half and offer one half on Saturday and one half on Sunday. This way people will take home whatever they won. The set up this year was to draw for everything after Sunday's round. You now have to figure out how to get stuff to people who played on Saturday. This may turn out to be a logistical Hemorrhoid. If I recall you had a great bunch of stuff. Split it. There were four baskets. Offer two each day.
yeah that would kind of suck not being able to be there for the raffle.
raffles suck anyways and i don't enter them. i was busy taking a Teerex off of nick swanson who has yet to pay up!!!!!!
Tough to split the baskets though.
thats true, but the #1 rule in disc golf is that Milwaukee loves a raffle :D
So how was attendance? We have members who played both days. TDs who are competitive at the TD thing want to know. :D
I think it was 79 for Sunday, 61 advanced, 12 Advanced master men and 6 advanced women. I don't know how many came on Sat. It was a great day for it.
IIRC there were also 79 there on Saturday. Not bad attendence for a tournament with no Rec or Open divisions. Perfect weather both days.
I did not understand the No Rec Divisions thing, but there are lots of things I don't understand. I'm glad it was successful. That was as big as any IOS so far this year. The PDGA needs more TDs running good tournaments for Ams.
I thought Mike did another awesome job. Great sponsorship and "tourney central" at the bowling alley was much more fun than at the park pavilion. Keep up the good work :icon_thumleft:
Just some highlights:
- Player pack included choice of (1) Star plastic disc AND (1) ESP or Z plastic disc.
- Payout was at least 50% of field each day.
- Mike added $50 each day to the Ace Pool. No aces were hit so Mike put everyone who entered the Ace Pool into a box and pulled out winners. Each winner received $20 ($180 on Saturday, $200 on Sunday).
- Both days, each round each group picked a CTP hole (32 prizes on Saturday, 36 on Sunday).
- AmNational qualifiers received a SuperColor AmNational Spectra courtesy of Mike (because of ties a couple of people didn't get one).
- Record Breakers: Marie Schwinn won $25 for beating her own tourny record set last year. Jay Smith won $25 for beating Zac Cobus's record set in 2004. There were also three other men who beat Zac's record.
- Over $2500 worth of raffle prizes.
Really wish I could have played, but it was alot less stressful just walking around not worrying about how far off the lead I was ;D
Photos for the Wham Bam Thank You Am have been uploaded:

Nice Pics!!
Nice videos of the Putts too
Thanks Serg! The photos turned out great.
Nice Job Serg! Very cool action shots!
I have photos of Discontinuum members too, I but don't know how to upload them.
Yeah, tourney was a blast. More highlights:
* Women's entries increased over last year. There were 11 women competing in two divisions on Saturday and 7 women competing in two divisions on Sunday. No women from out of state, but maybe that will change next year. Although, I don't want Kelsey to play, because she'll crush my tourney record. ;)
* Jen Taylor and Anna Cole won their entries fee back in a free drawing for women.
* Top card on Sunday were given caddies for the 2nd round.
* CTPs for every group both rounds.
* Free putting contest for basket and 6 putters...granted you had to putt w/ the Lightning #2 putter. Baiscally, it was like throwing a garbage can lid.
* Birdie bag was provided on every hole.
* Ace pool was raffled off in $20 amounts instead of being given away in a CTP throw-off.
* Great lunch specials.
Mike treats the players well.
