Just wondering if anyone has used a Quic Stick and how well it works.
Is it grippy stuff? Mark Ellis uses grippy stuff. He likes grippy stuff so much he got the rule changed to make it legal. Whenever I'm throwing back to him I'm always looking for the part of the disc without grippy stuff. I hate it. It messes with my release point.
No the Quic Stick is a disc retreiver its kinda like a blind persons cane with a little nub on the end. Follow the link to see it. I'm thinking of getting one but wanted to know if anyone has used one.

I don't own the Quic Stick, but I do own 2 different disc retrieving contraptions (well, maybe 2 1/2).
Device #1) I have the "Golden Retriever", which they are probably still selling on eBay. It's a device to throw into a creek that will skim the bottom of the water and pick up your disc. It has up to 50' of string (if you tie the 35' and 15' strings together).
Advantages? Once it hooks onto the disc it's very good at making sure the disc comes back out with it. It has good distance in case your disc is further away, and it can be used to skim along the ground under a pine tree to help you get your disc out without having to reach in to get it.
Disadvantages? You MUST be able to see your disc. If you can't see the bottom of the water (eg. the pond at Madison Meadows) this thing will do you pretty much no good. It can be tricky to get the device to grab your disc because of loose dirt and mud at the bottom of the water.
Price? $20-25
Device #2) I bumped into a guy named Steve that introduced me to a telescopic pole that he used to poke discs out of trees. This comes in very handy for a course like Oak Brook.
Advantages? I went and bought one, but the guy sent me the wrong thing. I was supposed to get the pole that goes to 31', but I only received the 28' one. It's bright orange (although you can get black) but it's very easy to see. It collapses to about a 4' pole, but it can extend out easily to the 28' mark. It's very easy to work with when held vertical. The best part is that it is made out of Fiberglass. It's actually supposed to be used as a telescopic pole to fly a windsock kite.
Disadvantages? When all closed up, the pole is 4' long. That's not too bad, but you'd rather have something that you can carry in your bag than something you need to use as a walking stick. It's also a little tough to manage when fully extended and you need to use it horizontally (if you were really deep into some shrubs and you wanted to try to lift it out of there instead of going in to get it). The two biggest drawbacks are no grabber at the end and can only poke at a disc, and the other is that because it is fiberglass it will bend and not work as well as something like a stick to place under your disc and hook it on the rim and bring the disc out of a rough area.
Price? $45-$60 (depending on if you get 28' or 31' model)
Device #3) A simple hardball. A baseball works better than a tennis ball because when you throw the hardball it usually will come back down (unless you have a very stubborn tree). It's small, fits in your bag, and can be quite effective once you have some practice aiming.
Disadvantages? If you're not careful, it can still get stuck in a tree.
Price? $2
The Quick Stick sounds neat, but I dunno... guess I'd have to hear more about others using it to know for sure lol. Great idea though.
golf ball sounds like a must to have in the bag
I keep a Fat Max 25' tape measure in my bag. It has 11' standout and works great for poking discs out of tress. I've also been able to pull discs out of streams/ponds with it, but it takes a bit of work.
I am gettting one for Fathers Day so I will post as to how well it works
i just pull out my ding dong and whip discs out of high trees
Well I got my QUick Stick and I goota say I am VERY impressed. Even though I cant play because of my ankle I drove out to Streamwood tonight and crutched my way down to the creek on hole 2. I brought out the Quic Stick which is very easy to assemble and disassemble. The first time I tried, i just lightly tossed a disc into the water ( a DX Valk.) stuck the Quic Stick in and picked the disc right up out of the water and moved it to me without dropping it once. So then I tomahawked it into the water and got it stuck a good 1/3 to 1/2 way into the mud. I was not able to pull it right out but with about 2 seconds worth of rooting with the Quick Stick I had it out of the mud and on shore in less than 10 seconds total. So then I did the same thing with a pro plastic Starfire and a star plastic Tee Rex, it grabbed them just as easily. So all in all I am very happy with this product and though I do not look forward to having to use, I'll be VERY glad I have it when I do. I will bring it with me when I come to the Crystal Cruise on Saturday to shop if anyone wants to take a look at it.
Rhino,
Its time for you to get that ankle/foot injury behind you.
Im betting your short game is improving.
I'm not quite sure if your telling me to get over it or or what but I'll put it behind me when I can take the giant boot off. And yes my putting is getting better.
