Title: 2003 Widdershins
Post by: Bruce Brakel on February 18, 2003, 12:05:24 PM
The 2003 Schedule of Events on the website says that the Widdershins is Saturday, June 1st, which is a non-date.  Saturdays in June are 7, 14, 21 and 28.  The 1st is a Sunday.

Do you have an actual date for this Jim?  Next year we should try harder not to schedule our tournaments against each other!  Meanwhile, we will have to forgive each other for not attending the other's tournament.

I just realized that the course routing at Bevier is widdershins around the pond.  Is that the origin of the tourney name or is it more obscure than that?

Sorry for any confusion...

Widdershins Open is Saturday, June 7th.

Safari Series #6 is on Saturday, June 14th at Anna Page Park in Rockford (fun course, similar to Dretzka, kinda).

Widdershins generally means "backwards". Once source of the word is from the 17th century pagan culture, in which an alchemist or witch would perform a spell or ritual in reverse to undo a negative spell cast by another. Turning a yin into a yang.

In the last 2 years, we only played a hole or two in this fashion. This year, I've got a whole new layout in mind, especially with the 3 new holes. I'll draw it out for the next meeting.

Formats will be the same (except for PDGA sanctioned event).

HPC Memorial will only use 9 existing baskets and 3 temps.

Widdershins will play all 12 baskets with some/most holes backwards (more fun).

Bevier Blast will play 12 baskets, none backwards.

Keeping them all the same won't work unless we only use 9 perm baskets every time.........

Hey Frog!  Where've you been hiding all winter?

Hope all is well and to see you at the course - don't forget about March 22 (Henry Pfau Callahan Memorial event).

Will you be playing any Wisconsin tourneys this year?

Speaking of layout, i'd like to get a layout that would stay the same for our tournaments for 2003. It would be nice to play the same course & # of holes to see how scores are improving or getting worse.

I believe we discussed this a few meetings ago.  Parkside is May 31/1.  so we moved the Willershins to the 7th.  By the way, I am the Willershins trophy holder at the moment.  Sad thing is that an AM would have beaten me.

If you are not playing pro in mad city you will not be playing mad city.  It is a national tour that is only playing at Token.  Am weekend is only at Heistand.  The end to one of my favorite events is nomore.  Big bummer...

The 2003 schedule of events says Saturday, June 1st. Whatever the date is, the schedule should be updated.

I thought it was because Jim throws widdershins.

My dictionary defines widdershins as counter-clockwise, which is backwards for a clock, but if you play Bevier backwards it would be counter-widdershins.

Meanwhile, The Safari Series under 2003 Schedule of Events still says #6 is on June 7th.

One of the really interesting features of the Ludington, MI, disc golf facility is that the Beast course is played essentially backwards to create the Goliath.  They have next tee signs everywhere and a locking flip sign at the parking lot telling you which course is "in play" today.

I'm thinking of Bevier backwards right now and wishing I was not running a tournament that weekend at Michigan's finest 24-hole course, not because thinking of a course backwards while making a wish has added effect but because 12 holes backwards at Bevier is going to be fun.  I would heartily recommend this tournament to everyone who reads this message board whose last name does not start with Brakel.

Brett, or whoever CE Valk is, this is another nice thing about Jon calculating club ratings.  With round-by-round ratings you can see your progress or regress from tournament to tournament without having to play the same course.

QuoteShawn (02-18-2003 05:10 p.m.):

I believe we discussed this a few meetings ago.  Parkside is May 31/1.  so we moved the Willershins to the 7th.

I think we went around on this a couple weeks ago but I don't remember anything being resolved. June 7th is listed as Safari in Rockford, although Safari is supposed to be 2nd Sat and 6/7 is the 1st Sat, so I'm completely confused.

(hoping to go to Peoria on 6/7 anyhow....)
