I did not like this course. #'s 8 & 9 baskets were missing. The poles were still there so they may be repairing them. They said they redesigned the course. I did no like the layout. It is a fairly short course tucked in one corner of the park. I did see a few deer though! I lost a CE Valk in the pond on #5. I had some fun though. Went across the street to this huge hill by the soccer field. I threw across the street to the 4th basket. About 375 Ft off a 75 foot hill. Put a few close. That made up for a boring course.
Played here yesterday. Didn't think it was terrible, however I wish some of the baskets weren't placed as close to the next tee as they are.
All in all, not a bad course. some interesting holes involving fairly thick shule and/or trees. There were a couple wide open holes, 4 and 5 if I remember correctly, as you're marching towards the pond before heading back to the start of the course.
Oh yeah, 95% sure I ran into this dude as well:

that sucks about the valk i would have went and got it
U ever play this course? That pond is *deep*
Brett's post was from 2002 also....
was he playing ?
No, came out of thin air on a motorcycle in between the size of a spree and a small Honda. Was pretty cool, had a feeling I was talking to somebody famous and it didn't hit me until just as he was driving away.
Dressed from head to toe in Nike gear, the motorcycle had Oregon plates on it....
Played this last week. I don't need to go back.
If there is a course out there on which it is easier to lose discs, tell me so I can stay away from it.
Round Lake
Actually, I think if you don't pay really close attention, its very easy to lose a disc on at least half of the expansion holes @ Bevier.
Keep up the good work Dave.

Excellent work Dave. I really hope this gets approved. I look forward to help out with this course!!!
Wow. The possibility of an 18 hole course, a tough and wooded 18 hole course, within biking distance from my home, is great. The videos seem to go through a lot of shrub trees. I assume those will have to be pared away to create routes. It seemed like he was walking through a shrub tree forest with no real routes. However, if they get cleared away there seems to be a path between the bigger trees. I hope this course gets built. This course in Highland Park looks like it could be as challenging as Highland Park in Joliet. The skating rink has nice bathrooms and drink machines.
Thanks for the encouraging words and excitement guys. As Brett mentioned, I did come to a club meeting a few months back and discussed my thoughts and plans and itinerary. Things were premature to talk much about, but things are developing now. It might still be 1-3 years (if at all), but there appear to be no show stoppers thrown out there yet.
Next post will be an update and a request, but first a little personal introduction so you know a little where I am coming from. I have been playing disc golf avidly for the last 10 years and recreationally/sporadically for 6 years before that....and for many years even before that if you count the object golf we did as a warmup for Ultimate back into the late 80's in the NE where I grew up. I was a Board member for years in the Charlotte (NC) club where we had phenomenal courses, events and fun. I contributed countless hours to running events and serving the membership. My passion is still there to continue putting my energies into disc golf, but life is in a new chapter and the avenues for doing so are different.
Me and the fam (wife & 3 elementary aged kids) moved here 20 months ago for family reasons. My wife grew up here. I was happy to see all the disc golf courses around, but also saw a big need for something more challenging. I liken what the north shore has in disc golf (for the most part) to a driveway basketball hoop that is 8' high. Sure, you can have a blast dribbling and shooting (and even dunking).......but it is not real basketball. I am not unthankful at all for what is here, rather I see a need for additional in the bigger and better category.
I saw the potential for expansion at Danny Cunniff one day when out with a nephew playing...... and the wheels began turning from there. I do not think Danny Cunniff can be quite as good as the Highland Park course in Joliet (mainly due to the lack of terrain), but it can be amazingly good......and have some amazingly beautiful spots.
I know I have not been an active participant in events due to lots of family activity (although I am now in my 3rd year of membership). Hopefully I can join you in contributing in a positive way to the local scene.
I met with the Director of Planning and did a walk-through and had a long and productive conversation. I learned some good things regarding the tree ordinance, run-off regulations (no changes to the contour of the ground allowed), workings and preferences of the board of directors, potential to be involved in grant money (at least a 1-2 year process). He held out good hope that expanding the course could be something that we could do......which is much better news than facing a string of objections that would need to be overcome (or not).
I need to wait until we find out if the land behind the skating rink is tagged as a nature area before knowing the specific next steps (as in, Is that a hurdle and if so is it even a hurdle that can be cleared?).
In the mean time I need to find Highland Park residents that can speak to the Board of Directors expressing interest and support of this course expansion.....and in support of me and the Discontinuum Club spearheading the project. This is a bit of a pain as there seems to be no Discontinuum Club members that are residents (that I see on the current list or lists I have looked at in the past).......and that I live 2.5 miles from the park (but in the neighboring town) whereas the park offices are 3.5 miles from the park. It is a "if you build it they will come" scenario, so I suppose I will be finding those that "will come".
Do you have a relationship with any pro-DG folks in Highland Park IL? If you can be of any help to find such people, please email me from that little envelope icon below the eyeball on the left. Thanks!
PM sent. I did not see the envelope under the eyeball you mentioned.
Thanks Jason - appreciate your ideas and offer to help hook me up with some residents. I responded by email (the gmail in your profile) - just in case you did not check that.
