Its already in the calendar! I don't know who it is but at least one of you boys is going to be highly embarrassed that I beat you. :BangHead:
If you beat me I will be very proud for you and not embarrassed at all. Diana has an arthritis seminar that weekend so maybe I'll be there with Kelsey and Kira. We all have memberships this year.

Seroiusly thought Andy, I think everybody should just view the event as 1 big bag tag challenge. There aren't any prizes and we aren't paying anything except the ace fund to play, so there is no point in breaking into divisons. You can compare your score to others you normally play with if you wish. The Pro division is only offered so they can play for cash. Obviously advanced players such as myself who are determined to remain amateur for as long as possible :), can't accept cash at a sanctioned event.
What Dan said. I think we all should just play pro, but amateurs wouldn't get it and would stay home. And maybe some want or need their Worlds points.
Last year Jon and I played pro with Terry and Brett and maybe Spike, the PDGA stats will tell. It is not like we thought we were going to win, but we also paid into the optional $10 cash sidebet because we are good sports and $10 is a reasonable fee to pay for a lesson from Terry and Brett. If the $10 is not optional this year, maybe I'll play amateur! :o ::) :P ;) ;D
It was good fun.
If I spend more on this than the $100 on gas, I'll make up a bunch of pro trophy discs so that for your $10 you can at least win some throwing plastic!
And I start school on that Friday......... :(
Nothing goes down on the first day of school. The teachers pass out books and lay down the rules and assign seats. You can learn your locker combination the following monday.

Yes, they would not let us run it as a D-Tier.
Last year they were giving away D-tiers like 110 gm ultra light Magnets. [Which are a fun beach toy, because they float and fly far better than a Frisbee!] This year they are sticking to the criteria. D, C, it really does not matter. It is sanctioned disc golf with your friends and acquaintances.

right, I was just a little curious. How do we actually enter this? I'd think the max entries would be 60 unless there are extra holes added, but we do have a lot of members these days...
Can we run a free event through the Discontinuum store? Nah, you have to verify membership. It is not set up for that. Brett, could you take Bruce, Kelsey and Kira as pre-paid and pre-registered? I will know for sure by Rockford so if it fills and they can't go, I'll get them out so others can play.
Let's fill this up too!
I'm IN for sure! Took the day off already. Should be a great time.
yeah, we could, I think...
fwiw the majority of our members are also current PDGA so the day of event cash registrations shouldn't be too large.
I'd possibly like to come down again for this fun day. I'll have to check my calendar.

so how do we pre-register?
Quote from: smyith on July 12, 2006, 03:29:00 PM

I think the pre-registration process is as follows:
1) Join the Discontinuum club
2) Show up to the event
I know the club has gotten big, but the event is on a Friday. I don't think we're going to fill the course.
Spoil sport.
I'LL BE THERE FOR SURE I HATE GOING TO WORK ANYWAY

I'm not sure what the deal is. I turned in the agreement a few weeks ago & have sent numerous e-mails after they made us change from D to C. It's going to be a C-Tier, just hopefully it'll get listed soon.
I'm already off on that Monday (8/14)...I'm hoping it won't be a problem taking off on the 18th.
I think I might want to come out to this event, even though I haven't played the course before (and I know I should). Since there are only advanced and open levels, and this is a PDGA sanctioned event, how would that affect me as far as ratings since I only play rec at the IOS tournaments. I'd be able to continue to play rec in other tournaments even though I would have played advanced at this tournament?
Sorry, rookie questions :)
Since I can never make it out to Sunday Best shot, this is my best excuse to go check out Bevier. I still have to make sure that I'm free to go that day though. I think I'm good though.
Scott
What division you are entitled to play is based on your rating unless you accept cash at PDGA event for playing in a pro division. You can play up as much as you want to. I've played pro in at least one sanctioned event--didn't have to worry about accepting cash obviously!
This is a for fun event with no prizes (for ams) so those of you that are Rec and Int rated like me should feel free to come out and play. I know I am planning on it!
ah, never mind, Jon explained it better than I did...
Just got word from the PDGA & it's a go for a C-Tier.
For the amateurs this is a tag competition, no prizes. The club is paying the $50 C-tier sanctioning and $2 per player to the PDGA.
Your rating will be based off the other players who have ratings over 800 and enough rounds in, like any other tournament. You won't get an advanced rating from playing in the advanced division unless you keep up with the advanced rated players.
Bruce
Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that lower rated players (yeah, such as me) have a benefit when playing in a pool of higher rated players. If we shoot reasonably, our round ratings may be a tad higher than we would expect especially if some of the higher rated players have an off day.
The PDGA thinks that they have corrected that anomoly. I looked at Rockford ratings for that. Did I post on that? I think you cannot compensate for that with a mathmatecal formula.
The way it works is, ratings generators who are rapidly improving depress everyone's ratings. If a guy is rated 880 off what he was doing last spring and now he is playing 920, his rating lowers the average rating by 40/#players. At a twenty player tournament, every player like that will swing ratings lower for everyone by 2 points.
Those guys are usually the guys who are tearing up in Rec and Intermediate, so the effect is seen more in the lower pool at a two-pool tournament. At a one pool tournament those guys are counter-balanced by the die hard players who are playing injured but playing anyway. Those players tend to be pros and master-aged players.
So if you have one Bruce Brakel for every Ben Schwinn, it balances out. ;D
At the Club Championship you are not really playing in a pool of higher rated players. Not too many pros show up for it. A lot of the rec and intermediate rated club members do show up for it. I think at the Club Championship the effect is likely to be balanced out.

Are we doing any CTPs or anything like that? Might be nice for the lower rated players who aren't getting anything but competition out of this one.(ie: me) I'd be willing to donate discs.
I'd be willing to donate some discs for CTP as well, although I'm still not 100% sure I can make it out to the event. Maybe I can drop off some discs at Streamwood or something...
Who is coming? I want to start a list. We will tee off by 9:30AM next Friday.

Any suggestions for lunch options around there? I've only been there once and didn't go anywhere for eats.

2M Rule is in effect
On & over all roads are OB

Tennis & Basketball Courts are OB.
Totally surrounded by water is OB.
I will be there. A couple of the holes are a little tougher with the addition of the summer growth and not too much play.

After my rounds at Streamwood ...
I'm in! See you early Friday morning. It'll be a great finale to my week vacation.
btw ... this is the park that IOS #7 is at, right?

Tom,
There will be no OB in the creek unless there is water in the creek. No rope OB anywhere.
Adoni,
This is Bevier Park in Waukegan, IL. IOS #7 will be at Fairfield Park in Round Lake, IL. Bevier is going to be expanded to 18 holes in the next year or so. It's currently 12 holes right now.
Just to let everyone know ahead of time I will be grouping pros with adv players. I am going to try to get someone who knows the alternates at Bevier in each group for the first round. 2nd round groups will be sorted by score reguardless of division.
The player meeting is at 9:10am. I want to tee off by 9:30AM. I have a lot of people that need to be out of the park by 4pm. With 3-somes and a short lunch break this is most likely to happen even though we are playing 48 holes. I'm actually hoping more like 3:30pm. 9:30 tee off, 12:00 end of 1st Round. 12:45 Tee off, 3:15 end of 2nd round. The putting & driving competitions will be held after the 2nd round.
Here is an updated list of people who have contacted me. Please let me know if you plan to attend so I can fill out a card.

The course looks pretty good. I moved alternate #3 (#21) up a little bit. The anhyzer & hyzer route is more realistic now. It had really overgrown the past few years and getting to the basket was impossible. I trimmed the branches on alternate #6 (#15). They were hanging very low. I also moved alternate #6 (#24) to the right just a little bit. This has needed to be moved for a year or so. Hole C has grown over quite a bit. They are supposed to mow back there but i'm not sure if they are going to get to it by Friday or not. The only letter hole tee that is hard to find is C1. It's grown over quite a bit and the rocks are missing. Can't wait for Friday!
Rocky Pebbles...your basket is in town. It will be at fairfield sometime on Thursday. Call me if you have your brass and want to pick it up. 224-588-seven-eight-three-4. Please only use that for tomorrow or Friday. Normally that is my work number. Bruce might arrange to leave the basket with me or Brett if you aren't around thursday or friday.
Thanks!

PLAYED THE UPDATED ALT. HOLES YESTERDAY. THEY PLAY MUCH BETTER NOW
If everyone shows that said they might be able to make it we are just 2 short of having 3-somes on every hole.
I'll be heading out from the Woodfield Mall area can someone give me directions? Or if anyone knows of a "sly guy" route so that I'm not stuck in morning rush hour.
Thanks!
EDIT: Ok so I looked at Googlemaps and I have come up with a route but please tell me if there is a better way.
(from woodfield)
90 E to
294 N to 94 N
East on 120 (Belvidere)
North on 131 (N. Green Bay)
East on Yorkhouse
I know I can take 53 N to Lake Cook to 94 but Lake Cook Rd. is usually terrible in rush hour...it's been a long time since driving that route in the morning so correct me if I'm wrong.
Your route from google looks OK. It will be busy but tolerable. Avoid Lake -Cook.
Give yourself at least 1 hour, probably 1.5 to be safe.
